Who ever said it would be 9.95 a month? It could be 3.95 or something cheaper, 10 seems to be a bit much.

My comments on CS Central, copy and pasted here:

The non multiplayer version will probably sell to people who have no internet connection and will probably pretty cheap. Thats not a bad idea. However you're better off buying the multiplayer version and just buying the mods. Overall it'll cost more if you do use Steam. But I seriously doubt that anyone is stupid enough to pay 9 dollars a month especially when you consider that its unlikely to see any mods even the first year. One question; will the future versions of mods not affiliated with Valve that are less popular now (E.G. The Specialists, Global Warfare) have to be paid for? If not then I predict that a lot of the lesser played mods will gain a lot more popularity.

Would CS2 be stand-alone, or require HL2? If the latter, does which version (multi support or no) matter?

Logic would dictate that it would be a standalone game, because I assumed it would have single player missions. Then again, hey I guess some people release addons to game which are single player, so don't trust me! HAPPY?! -_-

I'd be willing to pay $50 or $60 for HL2 if it included the ability to get future CS2 / TF2 for free. However, I am most certainly not interested in paying however much for HL2, then $10 a month until those "addon" games are completed which could be god know's how long from now. That's what I mean by rediculous.

Even if I get HL2 and have to later purchase CS2 and / or TF2, it seems that it would be rather inconvenient for it to be standalone, than a mod or "addon" for HL2.

So your assumption is based on an assumption? Nice work.

I don't think you can dismiss TF2 as just a add-on game for HL2 when it was in development before HL2 was and you know nothing whatsoever about any of those games.

I think it's tough to comment on this. Will half-life2 be required to play TF2 or CS2? We have no idea. You can't really comment much on this one way or another until we get more details. If you're like me and going to buy HL2 no matter what for the game itself then it hardly matters, but if you want to buy HL2 just to get CS2 and TF2, then it might affect you, because if they are stand alone products you could skip the HL2 purchase and just buy them separately.

All this talk about how valve is screwing us over and what not based on the fact that they are going to *gasp* charge money for their games doesn't make a whole lot of sense at the moment, but then again nothing about this really does.

Charging to play mods is an extremely bad idea. If this concept was put into the first half-life, no one would have bothered with CS and it wouldn't be as big as it is today.
