Half-Life 2 Purchasing Methods

I cannot see them releasing a game that no one knows how to buy.

Let me see if I have this right. To get the mods for free, I'd have to subscribe to Steam and pay a monthly fee, right?. If I buy a boxed copy of HL2 that has Multiplayer/Mod support, I'm just paying a one-time fee on the game, right? And if I don't subscribe to Steam, I have to buy the mod seperately, did I get this right? If I got any of it wrong, explain what I got wrong.

You know i see many people getting angry at valve for charging so much so many times, but you have to remember, they are a business, and they run on supply and demand just like any other company. If the people are willing to pay it, then why not charge it?

I can see it now -every1 pirating the no - multi / no - mod version of Hl2 then choosing the best deal once a decent mod (or cs2 tfc2 etc) comes out. And they better not make Steam a pain in the ass by updating it without testing it. I realize that was what the beta was for but i just have the itch they are going to screw up our gaming time every so often.



Those complaints aside I think this is a much more industrious way of going about marketing a popular game, and I think they should have a better news box programmed into Steam to tell you whats up. I just hope the passion of making a great game doesn't fade into the passion of making great money like so many other events in gaming history have.

LOL, would be a waste of money to buy the steam version. Think of this, you pay your $50 for HL2, but then you cancel your account. Theres a possiblility you won't be able to play HL2 anymore because of your account being cancelled.



Now, theres another idea, but they probably thought of this. One buys subscription, downloads the game and then cancels the account. There might be a chance you can still own the game and play it.



Now, for what I believe, VALVe is wanting to cheat people on games. They are wanting people to pay $120 a year and only get $70s worth of games. I've never trusted VALVe in my life and won't ever, simple because they balance games and are only trying to make them look more up-to-date, rather than create more fun. If I want to play an unbalanced game, I'll play Tic-Tac-Toe and always go first. At least then its free.
