why did nearly every single person on here EXPECT it to come out today?

honestly, you should know valve better than that.

I thought it would finally come out today because i figured valve had already delayed it for 2 months (thus they had more then enough time to fix any bugs), and posted an exact release date, What kind of company posts an exact release date, then doesn't release the game, and then on top of that doesn't tell anyone why the release was delayed again?

Actually, this is called 1.6 BETA, which means the product should have bugs, thats part of the fun of getting it, at least in my opinion it is. If this was 1.6 final we were talking about i wouldn't care so much, because i do want that to be bug free, but this is a damn beta, the bugs are part of it. The only bug that should be delaying the game this long is a bug so huge that it makes the game totally un-playable, other than that i don't care how many little bugs it has because i like to see them and have fun with them. The only bug i couldn't stand is the knife animation being broke again, they break that in every beta, you would think they know how to keep that working by now.

Also, if they aren't 100% sure that they can release their product on a certain day, why give an exact release date? that is extremely bad PR, why not just give a time-frame of maybe 2 or 3 weeks in January and then when they are 100% sure they can pull off the release on a certain day they can post the exact release date and get the hype they need.
Bugs are not fun when they impact the quality of a game. I don't want VALVe to release a beta KNOWING it has serious issues. I want the bugs to be found during gameplay that they COULDN'T catch, not ones they know about but decided to release anyway.

As for the timeframe rant, it's called probability vs. reality. As I said before, when EJ made that statement, the bugs they probably found were not either there or were not found at the time of the statement. So no, it's not bad PR, it's good progamming. It's not unusual for a game company to push back a release date because they felt it was a substandard product. No one can ever know 100% when a product will be released. Even on the day of release they're not sure whether it's ready. If you want 100% assurance, please visit FantasyLand where everybody knows what is happening and when things come out 100% of the time.

yes it isn't unusual for a company to push back the release of a FINAl product version, but for a beta it is unusual. usually a company doesn't hype the beta untill it is ready to be released, or they just let people sign up for beta testing, and then releaase the beta when it is ready. either one of those is better then valve delaying a beta in my opinion.

I got to try out the 1.6 beta that Intel was running at the CPL Winter event... It was... different... first off, the Galail's only $2000, not $2700... also, the head hit box was a LOT Harder to hit... and IMO the riot shield blocked too many shots... of course that one's gonna be changed, but you could basically drop the shield in front of you and rush an awper and not take any damage.... or rush someone with an ak or galail and get killed by their spray.... it was weird... also, the little see-through part on the shield should be shootable... like, you can shoot through. That'd make it much better!

VALVe didn't hype the beta. One interviewer asked when it would come out, Erik gave the "intended" date weeks in advance. Thats not hyping.

Also a beta is for the public to find bugs that the developers don't know about... not for the developers to put out an intentionally buggy product (those are called alphas).

So you think the shield shouldn't block all gunfire and you think it shouldn't protect the face. In other words you want Kevlar and a Helmet.

shield seems like a gimmick to me. what good is a pistol 4 rounds in? And you can't even shoot the pistol while the shield is in effect. I hope the beta comes out soon can't wait to try it :o

Will the ballistic shield p/w model have transparent glass? They have 'skin masking' now which allows that sort of thing, so how come all the pics of the shield have just that crappy solid glass texture...

They could also make all the scopes actually glass-like now too, in v models...

I don't think the shield will be as big of a gimmick as it may seem. Imagine guarding a bomb bomb with a teammate. Some T notices you have a shield up and tries to circle around you while your teammate kills him from a distance.

I find his reply to your (I assume it's you) idiotic ramblings hilarious. I'm pretty sure he's making fun of you, assarm.

But it's CT only? I see where you're going though. It has tactical advantages, but do they outweigh a good M4 or AWP, that's what we will have to find out!

I think for some maps it will be extremely useful. Take dust for example. The main hallway is a slaughtering hole for CTs. I think for certain maps the riot shield will have great use. Others it will be worthless.

The thing I'm most concerned with is the suggested AWP tank that I hear will be used when riot shields come out. I'm not going to give specifics on how this would be accomplished (I know how it would work, and believe me, it would work), but if it was used, that would cause massive disadvantages for the T's. It's hit and miss.

Yeah, you were owned. That crap don't fly with me. I would support any measures taken against people that do that. Yelling at people for incidents that are not solely their fault only proves that you are not mature enough to handle the twists and turns life gives you. I would suggest growing up and then maybe rationalizing what I mean. Maybe one day you'll realize the world doesn't work by yelling at people through e-mail like that. Or maybe pigs will fly first. I dunno.
