Re: Project Reality New Procedure For Server Code

I disagree with that, most players have been around long enough and know what a modded server is...

    repost to this page;

EDIT; I also see nothing realistic about long spawn times, and im the biggest lover of realism there is, as far as realistic damage modeling and so on. I hate nerfed weapons that wont kill. But long spawn times are just annoying, nothing more.

So as a realism player that you say you're trying to get, lower your spawn times and ill think about playing. Because thats what i want to do PLAY, not watch a clock.

It is NOT all about the people being unaware of the server side mods. PLEASE read this post I made earlier in the thread.

They are there for the tactical point of view. Just look at the short spawn servers back in .5. People ran around like headless chickens who didn't give a single care about dieing. Before longer spawns were in the mod this was also a problem. Ever since longer spawns was added, it changed the gameplay dramatically. As a player since the first release, I KNOW this is true.

You will never get these people that want to play the lower spawn times. So its not a valid arguement imo. People arent going to suddenly decide they like waiting man... I tried pure PR and hated it, mainly due to long spawn times. I would consider playing again though, on one of these modded servers.

edit: If you want to talk tactical,.. put all the spawns in the back base only, and make people reinforce from the rear, then you have your tactical play.

Then get rid of spawn time completely and make it a round by round dm mod, or at least impliment that mode into your new release. THAT will put a more realistic spin to it, with the feeling "Once your dead, your dead... that is until the next round starts and people get to start over fresh".

yep, short spawn times = less care in your life (or vehicle if they have had there spawn times changes, whats a easier way to reload a plane, crash it and bail out over the runway before it crashes, and wait 10secs for it to spawn or land it on the runway, taxi it up to the hanger, reload it, taxi it to the runway and take off again?) and also the game play is sped up loads, and in reality things do take a long time.

would not work very well, 64p on a server over a 2km x 2km map (maybe even a 4km x 4km map) waiting for the last sniper to come out from under his bush before the game ended wouldnt work too well.

CSS was ok with this as there maps where small, like 100m x 100m box, let alone talking kms, and only say 8 to 16 players.

the fact is you need respawn to represent a much larger force on the map, than what is in the server.

Not true, i hate dieing regardless of spawn time, and i dont ever throw my life away unless its for a good cause to "win the day" if you will.

People aren't going to suddenly decide they like waiting? Thats the point. Don't die. :p I got used to it, as well did all the PR fans. I would NEVER remove it, and the DEV's never will. It helped the mod a ton and we know that.

In addition, it gives medics a more "realistic" chance to reviving people. You actually can clear out the enemy threat before charging in like a headless chicken to revive your fallen teammate. Often times in PR, you now have the ability to either throw a smoke grenade at the scene and/or neutralize the threat. I would never want to go back to short spawns. It has so many benefits in the mod.

That is present as well on many maps if you have played recently. However, due to deployable Commander assets and Squad Rally Points you can spawn further up in the battle. Works great for teamplay!

like solodude said, on all the PR maps the "fixed" spawn points are back in the main base of the map.

thou you do have things like rally points, APCs, Commander trucks, fire bases, bunkers, and stuff you can spawn on in the filed. thou take note, all the above needs teamwork to set them up and get them used properly, for exsample the rally points need a squad leader, with an officer kit, to have 3 squad members around him to be able to set one up, and a fire base or bunker needs to be deployed buy the commander, then built by the troops. also take note, all of these can also be destroyed to stop players spawning on them :)

You dont get a choice on dieing, someone else killed you.

Now get spawn camped 3 times in a row because they had time to get setup and camp all the spawns and you just spent 1:30 mins watching a clock...not fun and not tactical either.

but you do get a choice, you can either hide behind that cover you have or you can jump out and bunny hop around trying to shoot them like what happens in vbf2

also spawn camping is rare in PR, and if it happens to you, its your own fault for not stopping them before you get camped. besides, the only ones they can camp are your main base spawn points as thous are the only fixed spawns, and they are spread out aswell. if you are getting camped there, why not spawn on your squads rally point, APC or w/e in the field?

So hiding behind a rock and camping is tactical?

                        btw i dont bunny hop

edit; i understand you want people to care about dieing, believe me people are stat-hoes, no one wants a crappy K/D ratio. So people already do care about dieing.

camping is realistic, its a part of warfare

and using cover, if it being a rock is also realistic.

Wow, I didn't know the devs of such a popular mod could be so narrow-minded and fascist.

Yeah but sooner or later you need to attack something dont yeah think? Especially if you are the attacking team on a map. Long spawn times do nothing except make people not attack and camp. Sorry but i dont find that realistic. In real war sometimes your ordered to your death as a diversion for example. When you're ordered to attack, you do even if it gets you killed.

Frankly, play better. I used to suck at PR. Then I got better. I played a 3 hour round the other night and died around 10 times. I usually die under 10 times, but it can sometimes be more. (Note: they only last hours because tis a beta) When there is a shorter time limit I have even less deaths. My ABR records say my average for deaths per round is 5.

So take that, my average. 5 deaths x :30 + 5 (for death penalty) Thats 2 and a half minutes in how long? Hours of gameplay?

And camping is obviously realistic. You thing soldiers in real life run around in the open jumping in the air?
