Project Reality New Procedure For Server Code

For those that this applies to, the Project Reality mod team has posted up a new procedure today for obtaining their server code for the upcoming release due to past situations. Take a look:
Due to some unfortunate intentions of some server administrators with the v0.6 release the Project Reality team will no longer be freely distributing licenses to run a Project Reality server.

A server license will require that administrators:

    • Register for access to the Server Registration forums on the Project Reality website
    • Apply for a License for your server in the Server Registration forum on the Project Reality Website
    • Are 18 years of age
    • Have read and understand the License Agreement

Unfortunately if you are under 18 years of age, you will not be granted a license to run the server code.

There is no fee for a Project Reality license, tho the software being free no longer automatically grants a license.

Completing the following questionnaire and submitting it in the Server Registration Forum constitutes "Application for a License" of your server. Not all applications will be approved. Each application will be notified of approval in the Server Registration forum. Read more...

ouch, must of been some asshat servers for a server owner to have to register just to run it. whatever it takes to keep mature servers, i like the idea in principle,i just hope the very small playerbase can handle it.

Perhaps I have missed something, what exactly warranted this rather extreme measure?

I believe it was people making SSM (Server Side Modifications) to the game. So basically they could change the thirty second spawn time to ten, make the number of sniper kits 20 instead of 2 etcetera.

That's simply not the way they meant the game to be played. I've seen some of the people bitching about it, but I think this is a good method in making sure the game is played the right way.

Don't quote me on all of that though, I'm just a PR community member.

Well, I applaud the PR team for making a statement to the community to uphold the integrity and credibility of the gameplay. I wish all mods would take a stand and follow in the direction of PR.

              You're kidding right?
this is half the point of modifications, so that people are free to change what they want.
There are some German POE2 servers that have modded the spawn to give double vehicles, we don't care about any of that kind of thing.

By all means PR are free to do whatever they want with the project, but I do think this is a big overreaction to a pretty small issue don't you think?

The PR team created what THEY WANT. Whether you want to play it the way it was intended to be played is up to you.

I think this might be good because people who play PR want to PLAY PR! But I wonder if the server owners care enough to register? There could be less servers then, no where to play!

eveyone knows what PR is about , the spawn times , the limited kits , thats why people play it , and thats why the DEV's have made the mod like it, if u dont like it dont play it , dont change it to suite how u want to play it

I dont see a problem as long as they say its been modded, otherwise they are just complaining that no one is playing PR pure, there might be a reason for that.

I feel a little UK/AUS rivalry here lol....

Anywho, this is a dangerous line of thinking....this is something that EA with all their wisdom, would do. I've always praised PR for having some of the greatest looking maps even though I think that their gameplay is horribad...to each his own. But with that in mind, I think it's a bad decision to disallow server owners to perform SSM's on their own box which they paid for.

If you want to play PR in it's vanilla form only, then don't visit servers that host PR SSM's!!!!!!!!!!!

PR should embrace SSM's as the norm but also help the community delineate between those servers that are vanilla or modded.

I would also look at these modded servers as a statement of protest....30 second spawn times? Yeesh... So if these modded servers are being populated...what does that tell you?

I agree with some of you, it's a risky call to "license" the PR server.. I think the PR community is going to get split, licensed PR and SSM PR, and eventually even smaller with time.. and that can't have been the intention from the PR mod team?
When the new release is out w. licensed server we will see.. Hopefully they can stick something in the new release to motivate all to move to the new version and attract some fresh players as well.

That there are way too many new players playing on modded servers and getting the wrong idea about the mod.
