Re: Chopper soloing: a problem or an art?

I can't believe I'm actually responding in "yet another TBF2 soloing thread"... But I wanted to at least give the OP mad props for not coming off as an arrogant arse. I feel pretty much the same way. While I'd prefer to fly alone most times, when someone gets in with me, I at least give them a chance. It's only fair.

Admittedly, even I get tired of dealing with "less than stellar" performers and have been known to resort to "less than nice" tactics to avoid said people. But at the same time, I never feel "good" for doing it. Whether it helps my team or not, it's mean for me to do so to that person.

I think this is most people's problem with soloers and hence why some servers create rules against it. Most soloers have too much attitude and cause too many personal problems. They get into this "it's my heli" type of mindset and just redline anything that gets in without even giving them a fair shot. For the betterment of the team or not, screwing over someone else's game just because they screwed over everyone else's doesn't seem very right to me. Fun and satisfying perhaps. But not right.

I think most people hide behind some fabricated and misguided idea of "teamwork" in order to justify their no soloing rule. However, I think the reality is the generally poor and overwhelmingly egotistical negative attitude of most soloers has ruined it for the few nice ones.

I would personally vote YES if DICE patched Helos into non-seat-switchable helicoper or used some other nerf that would screw up a pilots chance to use both seats ONLY, if they also introduced a very specific and heavy licencing system for vehicles that would make you all (sorry for the word) newbies work hard to actually be able to use the seat with reliable effectiveness.

I spent 2 hours in LAN server just to adjust to jets controls, about 50 hours in bombing and MG practice. Looking back I see dedication and desire for improvement. If you dont have any ambition but to farm score thanks to your pilot, you should be redlined. If you log in to a 64 player server in order to practice, you should be redlined. The game is out 2 years now, peoples skill is too high to let a newbster ruin the game for an entire team.

Whoever is using the "teamplay" as an excuse should use simple logic.

A soloer ruins the fun for one man and helps to save the day for the whole team.
A newbie gunner gets both himself and the gunner killed, lets the team battle with vehicles.

Which of these is a better teamplayer?
i agree that it can be a pain on a 64 full server..but most players cant put in the time you have i.e 50 hours here and there.

its a game ,doesn't matter if you're team wins or losses,(by a few tickets usually)

licensing would be a waste of time imo,

it doesn't matter how good or bad a player is imo, they have the same right to press E as every one else.

from a personal perspective,i have played alot of hours in lan a buddy of mine showed me the basics of flying a helo, and gunning.

but that 10x more easier than playing online.

i miss way more due to ping time's ect..but that doesnt mean i am a hindrance to my team!

but its fair to say there are lots of bad pilots out there aswell, but given time they will get better,

my main and best skill is long range sniping, but i don't complain if my team as a few unskilled sniper's trying to get better..i try and help them if i can.

don't give a dam if my team wins or not..i care about fun for the majority.

i stay away from the usually TK/que at the airfield.
1.i rather be somewhere more useful to the TEAM if there are players waiting for a jet/heli

2.does it matter if a ACE jet/heli pilot spends 10 minutes standing around looking at his mini map for the jet/heli to disappear so he might get the thing..??

the main players that win the game are the ground pounders + a good commander.that take the flags and work well in a squad.

jet/heli can help but scoring 50+kills on a good day is only a small portion of the tickets.

don't get me wrong i respect the skilled players and what they can do in a round,
but i don't respect it when there think they automatically get given the right to tell others how to play and that.

if a expert players is so dam good,go play in pro clan and go up against something more challenging, and maybe win something.

leave the normal players that have commitments/no as much time to waste playing a game,to play in public server's with the freedom to have a go in the heli/jet.

by all means play hard, get better, but also be fair :)

Why do we play video games, for entertainment. Does anybody find dying in said video games fun, no.

So why would you want to constantly try to fly and keep dying, bringing somebody better down with you?

Because after a while you'll stop dying and acquire some skill. If you fall off a horse, you get back on and try again. Unless you're a wuss. Or a cityslicker.

Anyways, if someone wants to learn to fly online amongst real live people, so be it. They bought the game too. If it's not your server and something like that aggrivates you, find another server. Nothing you can do. Whine more.

my take on this: if you want to solo, go for it, but if somebody wants to be your gunner, you damn well better let him in.

Another thing: if you're not doing well in the heli and see someone waiting at the pad for his turn, let him have a chance. Someone kept trying to take it on Daqing yesterday and after he skipped his turn in line, I warned him the next chopper was mine and I would make sure of it: long story short, he tried to come back for it after crashing 20 seconds later... I TK'd him and we went on to win. Moral of the story? Don't drink beer after a glass of milk.

Exactly, I really cant understand why so many people dont get this.

And yes, there are those asinine soloers out there, but does that make soloing itself a bad thing?

Seat switching should not be allowed in game. That simple...
Anyone using this tactic, would argue that it is skill.
But that is the biggest line of BS.
EA stated even before the 1st patch came out, that it never intended to allow that type of flying.

                                Indeed.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't really care if I win or lose rounds as long as I'm having a good time and the teams are somewhat in balance. I play to have fun, not to become a statistician and collect little JPEG medals.

That being said, I could care less if some newbie is up trying to fly the helicopter. Some here are trying to state that a newbie in a helo ruins the game for everyone else. That could be true, but I don't care enough to let that upset me. If you take the game that seriously, then maybe you should buy your own server, join a clan and become an admin on their server, or play on the uber-hardcore, heavily admin'ed servers.

Skilled or not, they have every much of a right to fly that chopper as you do.

But back to the main topic, I don't care if people solo, so long as they're not denying someone the right to gun for them. If you hop in the helo and no one's around to gun, then go for it, solo away. But if you're redlining gunners or purposely taking off and avoiding people, that's where I draw the line.
