Re: Chopper soloing: a problem or an art?

If I go on a TKing rampage, I guess I'll be doing a great team work too, for the other team that is. Or if I'm a noob, maybe I should promote the team work by not joining at all, since I wouldn't want to handicap my team with my inexperience and mistakes, right?
The point I'm trying to make is that to look at soloing as team work, you must have a very twisted and degeneric perception. Why don't you just admit that you are selfish and arrogant sob, and cut the crap since you are not making any sense at all. When you tk somebody just so you can solo, team play is the last one of your concerns. I bet you could care less if your team wins or loses, as long as you rack up your kills/points by soloing.

The irony is that I see a lot of soloers complaining that people don't understand why soloing is so good. However, in that same breath the soloer admits in engaging in asshattery to achieve soloing. How can it not be clear that the associated asshat attitude directly impacts those who make the rules? I mean why else make a rule? Rules prevent asshats, correct? At least I think it's a primary motivator anyways. Perhaps my low level IQ is preventing me from understanding this more complex relationship though.

        Enlighten me, please.

What I'd love to hear is other ideas and discussions about like what signa did. I think more information like that is a good direction for this to go. Unfortunately I'm not sure many around here think much differently than sloi and chris.
Woohoo i've got an ally in this thing

LMFAO!!!! THATS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE

The server is NBK (Natural Born Killers) airmaps server. I played there all day today after my incident with the noob guner on one of my favorite Wake servers. The server has scrolling rules that state something along the lines that if you suck.....GTFO

I loved it, this noob got in my helo and missed a stationary tank, I told him to get out and he asked for a second chance I said ok and he procedded to miss the enemy chopper 4 fvckin times before we died. So I became chummy with the admin, very nice guy, and asked him about the rule and he said YEP, get out of the helo or you WILL BE KICKED. I soloed the rest of the round LOL

now dont get me wrong, I played with Sig enough that I seen him kill a noob gunner before, it took alot to get him to kill the guy though as thats not usually his style

BUT, he did drop down to my level before :)

its ok Sig, you'll like it down here with me :) :)

Re: Chopper soloing: a problem or an art?

I say that it's okay to solo chopper, under certain conditions.

Good, well known chopper pilots SHOULD be left alone, if you try to get in with them you may well screw your team for that round.

If you consider yourself average at soloing and double chopper flying, let the guys on the pad try once, if they can't do it, too bad. Go solo.

If you're a noob at flying a chopper...don't even get in it under any circumstances.

so I let him go with someone else and he gets killed immediately, well I get the chopper next time and get a noob for a gunner, I asked him several times "can you TV?" he wouldnt answer the first 4-5 times then he replied "yeah idiot just go" so I take off encounter a cobra coming toward the airfield, the cobra doesnt even see us so I stay back to give him room, steady as a rock, he decides to machine gun the chopper which does basically nothing except draw their attention and next thing I know we are lined up directly in front of each other firing hydras and the idiot STILL wouldnt fire the TV missile........I mean you couldnt have asked for a better shot for the tv all he had to do was fire and never click again but he was a total fug nut and we died. Next time I told him to GTFO and he wouldnt so I redlined him and I never got killed again going 58-2

              SOLOING FTW!!!!!!!

I try to give people a chance but Im about tired of having a k:d ratio of 2 with a noob pilot or gunner, Im thru with co-pilots unless I know them.
              Amen.

In keeping with AnotherEd's request for "intelligent" discussion on the reasons for soloing being vehemently hated by the majority, I was just about to move into that territory.

We're seeing an increase in the amount of servers adding a variation on the abovementioned rule. To state it clearly, you are not permitted to use a helicopter or jet if your skill prevents you from consistently registering kills in a timely manner.

I have nothing against these rules. In fact, I quite enjoy the break from having to multitask my way through a battlefield, concentrating instead on one set of functions and letting a competent player handle the others: playing on NBK and R|A, assuming rules are being followed, is a great experience and it follows from the rule that you will find decent competition.

Is that less @sshattish, AnotherEd? Thoughts?

Yeah, but the reason people do that is to get in the practice as gunner to be able to live up to the high expectations of the leet solo'ers out there!
I've only done 16Hrs in the chopper and been redlined twice. Looking back from what I know now to what I knew then, then I probably deserved it!

I only got the game a year after it had been released so I didn't realise that pilots had NO patience with their gunners whatsoever.

Back to the quote.......I jump straight into the gunners seat because I've had a few hours in SP mode which only offers so much to practice gunning in. The Helo movement by the bot pilot is predictable and in straight lines, he never engages the Heli's in dogfights, so basically you reach a point where you can learn no more. You HAVE to get practice on the public servers.

I can agree with points from both sides of the argument, but don't stop giving people a chance to gun. I've been applying my SP practice with public server action now and have been doing well enough. If I was redlined tonight without being given a chance, my C4 would be out on the helipad for the rest of the round.

If EA put a patch out to stop seat switching then the Solo'ers out there will have to depend on their missiles if they get a noob gunner. May I suggest trying the SP mode to practice in and perfect your technique.

Luckily for you pilots out there. If I know I'm sucking like a leech, then I'll give up the gunners seat and go back to ground pounding. A simple "Get Out" works well on most occasions too!

Some of us already went through the hours of Local Server or SP to improve our use of rockets. One of my best BF2 memories happens to be listening to a trance compilation while practicing flight and attack maneuvers alone in a local server.

                    :)

PS. You can tell the bot to hop out, place yourself anywhere on the map to shoot your TV from different heights and angles.

Yeah, I was being a bit sarcastic with the first remark, and I know you must have put in many hours off public servers so I don't really need to go into the finer points of why you can only do so much in there.

I've briefly tried to practice soloing myself, but have yet to master how to control the spin with my joystick setup when I switch.

I know there are a lot of poor gunners out there who don't use TV's and shoot at tanks with the chain gun etc, but it's frustrating when people who know what they are doing don't get a chance.

End of the day it's not a big problem for me. Heli, Armour, Jet,Commander or infantry. I will happily take on any role and be completely ****ing average at it. :)

Re: Chopper soloing: a problem or an art?

yeh lol those guys that shoot other choppers and tanks with the chain gun are removed straight away. same goes for players that miss with every tv shot they make.

but a good gunner.. i will keep! they will be given tv shots at everything i would go for when soloing, incl jets.

what i dont understand.. these idiots that say soloing is wrong, you should pick up a teammate even if theyre **** e.t.c have you ever been flown by one of these nubs? do you enjoy dieing every 30seconds and flying so close to the ground you cant tv anything and get shot down by cars, tanks, stingers. i think you guys go in a chopper the odd time on sharqi and play infantry all other times. cos i find these **** pilots/gunners on EVERY server i go on.
