with my prob I fixed it, if anyone else has a problem with running at a higher resolution and it wont boot up properly.

Go to Steam > Games > Right-Click any one of the games > Properties > Launch Options > and type -window.

It helped me get into the splash screen to change the resolution.

I'm experiencing that frequently. My "solution" (based on superstition) is as follows:

      1.) Reboot machine.

2.) Do nothing except Start up Steam & Log in.

3.) Wait for steam to cease all activity (i.e. the tray icon stops moving). Do not start any game.

4.) Close Steam and reboot machine.

      5.) Repeat 2.)

6.) Try to launch the game of your choice.

7.) If unsuccessful, repeat the whole procedure.
Awesome strategy Copernicus. Everytime I start my car, I go to sleep, wake up, turn my car on, and then drive 4 feet, go back 4 feet, turn it off, go back to sleep, wake up, and drive away.

Way to attack someone who was only trying to help.

Superstitious or not, his strategy of clean starts and only running the minimum TSRs isn't a bad one for neurotic beta software especially with an equally delicate os.

Why did they neglect to fix all the hitbox errors?

The new statsme upgrade is almost as bad as 1.6 with HS's. ?;[

I hope they neglected all this shiz to employ it in the real update.

They now replaced the date in the update log with "coming soon"

                Amazing.

I've got some issues with Steam ATM. Every server on my list have a ping of 250 & upwards from there. Usually, I have around 300 - 500 ping with my 0.5 MBit ADSL.... That's not right
That's odd. I play 1.6b regularly on "MCP's gamegrid" and I'm pinging between 180-220 with a 56k modem. I saw some people on broadband from my city pinging as high (and sometimes higher) than me on the same server, however, so I really have to wonder what's going on there. Perhaps it's reporting inaccurately, or perhaps there's some other issues left to be resolved.

Btw, I've got another problem with Steam. Every time I make a change to my settings, all my key binds disappear. Not the default ones but the ones that I have added myself like, bind "i" "say_team timeleft"

Is there some way to make 'em stay even though I make a change? I can't figure out why the binds must be erased because I change resolution... Seems weird to me! :)

On a sidenote, it seems that it was my firewall (for some invisible reason) that caused my previous problems with Steam. Shutting it off makes more & better servers pop up... totally weird
You've got a few options. One is to not mess with your configurations (like resolution, player name, etc) from within Steam, as it seems to reset your config.cfg file every time you do that. Your other option is to create a backup copy of your config.cfg file after it's as you want it, name it whatever (like restore.cfg) and just run it from the console after doing changes.

In case you don't know how, it'd be something like "exec restore.cfg" that you'd type, whatever you named the file. Alternately, you could have your autoexec.cfg file restore your changed binds by adding them in there. Your call.

Gooseman supposedly has been working on CS2 since after CS went retail.

                    they sure are slow ....
...and you sure are dumb. Even if Gooseman was done with CS2 currently, it's not like he could release it before Half-Life 2 is released. Considering that HL2 won't be released for a little while yet, though, wouldn't it be best if Goose kept on working on CS2, making it even more awesome for when it's finally released?

Get your enjoyment out of the CS1.x series for now, it's still cool. When CS2 comes out, that'll be awesome, but sheesh don't bitch that it's not out yet.

I don't know what's sadder that everyone wastes comment space bitching about new versions of cs, or that nighthawk just spent time dignifying it with a response

not to mention that the very idea that gooseman has started working on cs2, let ALONE finished it is ludacris.

steam has it set up to have you add new binds to userconfig.cfg in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamCache\Counter-Strike\cstrike\

it execute's it as the last command in config.cfg, go figure

i have had a problem with steam ever since the first version.

every time i click on options, the game crashes to desktop with a 'send this error to microsoft labs' message.

every single time. anyone else have this?

                            appended @ [time="1054933373"]

ive also noticed once u load up steam, it is using a constant 5-10% cpu power. even when it is not downloading anything.

what the f**k is it doing to use up 5-10% cpu time? i hope it wont do this during the actual game!

it spends that time monitoring the CSN comments pages so it knows when there are new updates available

Thanks for your help! My Steam seems to be updating something! Maybe that's why it crashes when I try to enter a server
