Re: Bashandslash Twitter/Webcast Confirms Changes for PC

Thqp...are you coherent right now? I am actually trying to follow your logic, but there is no logic there. I'm all up for giving people a chance, but your support is beyond just giving a chance to straight either fanboyism or you are just in the mood to argue with people. No one, no company, no group should always be given 100% credit. You're supposed to question your government, you're supposed to question your teachers, you are supposed to question things unless you are a mindless robot, or an idiot.

Here is the thing, dedicated servers is MP gaming for PC, simple as that. As many people have listed on here, actually read their comments instead of just posting, you will see every point people have made. You think it's good to have listen servers...wow...really? Do you remember the PC gaming times before dedicated servers? Hello...not...good!

And as for the forum moderators, this is something that pisses me off about most forums. Your job as a moderator is NOT to limit discussion or speech. If people are using vulgar language or posting vulgar pics, you do what you need to do, but your job is NOT to hinder their speech, it's a discussion forum. People should be allowed to get upset, to get mad, to have a brain and discuss items since forums are DISCUSSION forums. IW closing threads is them just taking away all of the negative, and you support that? I don't agree with your views throughout this thread b/c they are completely illogical. Should I have deleted your posts b/c I didn't agree with them? I say no b/c I'm allowing you to freely discuss your opinion, but according to your views, I should have deleted your posts and banned you from the forums. Seriously man, wow.

Back on topic, for the 0.1% of people who think that this is a GOOD idea for MW2, please, turn off the tv, music, internet, sit for 2 seconds and think. If you still haven't realized this is a bad idea, do some research about PC MP games and come back when you have found the multitude of games popular in the MP world on the PC that are done with listen servers...you'll be back in no time. MoH: Airborne died before it was born, hence Rudedog's term "MoH: Stillborne" name which he tried to tell EA they needed dedicated servers, but they thought they knew better. Of course EA knew better just like IW knows better, right? Heh.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! To think IW is doing this "because they know better" is ridiculous. This is purely a money and control issue. They are just trying to make the PC platform more controllable like their beloved Xbox. Look at the facts, heck, read the interview posted on Total CoD that had IW in their own words saying they wanted to develop for consoles, that's where they wanted to be. And also, just as you were saying they PROBABLY had more private beta testers Thqp, how do you know that anymore than others saying they didn't have many? YOU DON'T! You can say IW is big, IW knows better, IW is smarter, IW has been around for a while, etc etc, but that doesn't mean anything with what they're now doing. If MW2 was business as usual for the PC, sure, no beta was really needed, but to have this 'new system' and not have a public beta is just plain stupidity at work.

I dealt with IW personally back with vCoD when I was on a mod team. Anyone remember how after MoH:AA, here came IW with the original CoD and MONTHS before release, they widely promoted their game would be moddable and support the modders unlike MoH, they uber promoted that fact. They said they would give modders the code needed because they supported the players. Hmm, it came to be that modders were needing code and they weren't giving it out, and this is months after release, so they had time. Some will say, "Oh, but there were mods", WRONG, not at first. Custom maps and skins are NOT full mods. We were wanting to implement actual gameplay changes and they told us that they couldn't give us the code, along with some other mods. They said they had hacked the engine up so much, they weren't exactly sure how to just give us bits and pieces...right. And then here came CoD:UO, different developer, I know, but a lot of our mod ideas which we had shared were then in UO. As others have said, maybe they didn't want customizable content stealing sales away.

I have been in the MoH and CoD communities relgiously since they both began, and I can give you my knowledge (knowledge is knowing the experience of others) that this will NOT be good to leave out dedicated servers. This has to be one of the biggest blunders in PC gaming history, ever! Do you really think you're right? So thousands upon thousands of PC gamers are just idiots getting upset for no reason? And what the hell, "Why are people complaining before it's out" hello...b/c they no it will fail as other games have done with no dedicated servers. This is a discussion forum, OF COURSE people are going to talk/complain/whine about an idiotic decision. We have this info and we're supposed to just sit around with our thumbs up our butt and then on release day go, "Hey, whear r dem dedicatedem server dealios at?" They're giving us the info, we're giving them our response.

This isn't Gearbox with Borderlands. Had it been, the lack of dedicated servers would've been much more important. Whereas Gearbox hasn't necessarily found a winning formula with the Brother in Arms franchise, Infinity Ward obviously has with Call of Duty. There is also the matter of Treyarch, the other developer of the series. Do you think Activision didn't know what was going on here? Of course they did, otherwise they wouldn't have let it happen.

How you can sit here and tell me that IWNet is going to wreck the online experience is beyond me. When Blizzard launched Warcraft (different genre, I know), did anyone expect those servers to hold all the people they hold? I would think not. Guess what? Those servers that run Warcraft - Activision owns them, just as Activision owns IWNet.

Before you go saying that none of this will work, just ask yourself "have I actually tried it first-hand?" I think the answer will be no. Exactly. We do not have enough information.

look what that did to an awesome game :P

the game rocked but the late addition of Ded servers and no mod tools killed that game instantly :salute:

mind you that alot of todays developers came from modding, are they forgetting who took them to the dance in the first place?

what if all games stopped allowing mod tools, what would tommorrows developers be like?
FFOW was not ready for release. They didnt even have punkbuster in it yet. HOWEVER, once they released some patches, ive heard its a really great game, just too little too late.

As for tomorrows devs, maybe thats a good thing. The lack of experience will cause these big companies to relize what they have done and with the loss of profits and the industry a "rebirth" could happen.

JoMaMaz. You haven't used it. You can presume things all day, but you have not used it. I haven't used it. It could be a total disaster like you want it to be, but is it wrong to be optimistic? Is it wrong to try to find some good in this?

MP Gaming is dedicated servers. This is because that has become the industry standard. You know what? If EA and Activision switched everything over to listen servers, that would be MP Gaming. You would still play it, too. It's just how things roll. When you say remember gaming before dedicated servers, what was the standard then? It wasn't dedicated servers, but people still played it.

Change is bad is the overall state of mind the PC community is putting up right now. A community, mind you, that looks far more idiotic than the console community as each day passes. Look at all the boycotts and complaints that have been brought to the forefront of discussion in the past six months. It's sickening. Why does it happen? Because change is bad.

As far as their forums are concerned - what has been happening there the past 12 hours? They delete threads that are starting a petition with good reason - they only need one. What if we were to allow multiple picture threads like Oh Say Can U C...Off-Topic would be overly repetitive. It's not a matter of them not agreeing with others posts.

(on a side note: what sounds more reasonable to you - 100 testers, or 100 + X beta testers?)

I fail to understand how someone with 700 hours clocked in games with dedicated servers, is just unable to get whats going on.

You will be playing on "servers" with severe lag, with server population likely in its low teens, all while clans will not be able to maintain their regular routine and there will be absolutely no mods or no custom maps available for you.

Comparing it to WoW is just silly.

I challenge you to prove or convince me that its a good move and/or that its not a bad one. You will fail on your first attempt.

The only reason why these changes are in effect is money, additional money from downloadable content and to minimize the impact from piracy. I would even go as far as saying that one of the feasible reasons for this is to persuade PC users to play MW2 on consoles.

Go try out a multiplayer game of Operation Flashpoint 2 then tell me P2P servers are a smart move with today's highly bandwidth demanding games.......

Leaving out dedicated servers is a cost cutting move, that's whats happening here. PC versions sell considerably fewer copies than their console counterpart so for a large developer its not feasible to sink extra money into development when they can simply cookie cutter the console experience and port it to the PC.

This is prime example of putting their development costs above the gamers desires and demands.....its going to come back and bite them in the *** big time.

                    Are you serious right now?

1st point - You don't seem to understand the anger people are having over this. It's not the matchmaking/IWnet that people are complaining about, yes, we have not used that. HOWEVER, I HAVE and so have many others, used listen servers, and they suck. So the anger is completely justified b/c listen servers are horrible, and they have been used by many so please stop saying "we haven't tried their way yet".

2nd point - NO I would not, and I will not play on listen servers. You know why dedicated servers became the industry standard...BECAUSE THEY ARE AMAZING COMPARED TO LISTEN SERVERS, DUH! PC MP gaming is dedicated servers, and I said that b/c look at the explosion of online PC gaming. Do you REALLY think that ever would have happened if dedicated servers never came along? REALLY? Something doesn't just become the standard for no reason. Why would dedicated servers ever have come along if it wasn't for listen servers sucking? People still played on listen servers, yes, but not in comparison to the large numbers that play on dedicated servers.

3rd point - Where the hell are you getting this info? Because people speak their mind on the PC, because people want to have a great game, because people on the PC don't want to get bent over and let the developer have complete control, we're idiots??!?!? I'm sorry, I thought having an opinion and standing up for something that meant something to you was a good thing, but apparently you want the socialism that is taking over the world to also take over the gaming world where we are all just a bunch of sheep that don't think, but just hand over our money and lives to the higher-ups and do as they say. Pull your head out, seriously. If you want to be a mindless robot, go ahead, but when the time comes when you have absolutely no control, don't complain...oh wait, you won't b/c you do not want any of such a crazy thing as freedom or independence or your voice being heard. I guess being a mute/deaf person would make me smarter than being able to voice my opinion. So babies must be smarter than anyone when they can't talk, walk, crawl, communicate well, rely on someone to change their diaper, need to be fed by someone else...you are so wise! Please, stay in your crib so you won't get hurt in the big, bad world where you might voice your opinion or come into some conflict.

4th point - They deleted the main post...not just a bunch of random ones, and this is not the first time they have done this. Anytime there is public outcry against them, they try to shut people up. IW has been cocky in the past, so this should be of no surprise.

Please, start thinking before you post because apparently you are still sleeping from this morning b/c you are making absolutely no sense. Read carefully...

WE HEAR WHAT YOU ARE SAYING THAT WE HAVE NOT TRIED IWNET AND THEIR MATCHMAKING SERVICE, BUT WE HAVE TRIED LISTEN SERVERS AND THEY ARE NOT BETTER THAN DEDICATED SERVERS, THAT IS A FACT, NOT AN OPINION.

averaging about 5 signatures a second...........i think the PC gamers voice is finally being heard........unfortunately its too late in the development to do anything about it.

Dude, I had the same idea. Problem is, I think it will continue to fall until release. This is not the end of these wonderful news.

I might buy it if it goes down little more. Sell it on release date when it will undoubtedly go higher.
