This isn't Gearbox with Borderlands. Had it been, the lack of dedicated servers would've been much more important. Whereas Gearbox hasn't necessarily found a winning formula with the Brother in Arms franchise, Infinity Ward obviously has with Call of Duty. There is also the matter of Treyarch, the other developer of the series. Do you think Activision didn't know what was going on here? Of course they did, otherwise they wouldn't have let it happen.

How you can sit here and tell me that IWNet is going to wreck the online experience is beyond me. When Blizzard launched Warcraft (different genre, I know), did anyone expect those servers to hold all the people they hold? I would think not. Guess what? Those servers that run Warcraft - Activision owns them, just as Activision owns IWNet.

Before you go saying that none of this will work, just ask yourself "have I actually tried it first-hand?" I think the answer will be no. As smart as all us commentators of the gaming industry are, its the owners of the gaming industry who really know what they're doing, whether you like it or not.
I think you yourself need to get a grasp on what is going on here since your entire post is erroneous. Do you understand that Blizzard is hosting DEDICATED SERVERS for Warcraft? There will be NO DEDICATED SERVERS in Modern Warfare 2, they will simply have clients connecting to each other. With the one who started it being the host, they will then utilize the power of that person's home computer and home internet connection as a listen server. My guess is that there are very few computers with hardware capable of pulling off a decent experience, even fewer with an internet connection that will be able to host without lag, high pings, and horrible shot registration, much less be able to host more than 6 people at a time, I mean as a PC gamer, how much fun is it to play 3 on 3? When we are used to 24+ man servers. There's no way we'll be able to play like we are used to, I'd say in the best possible scenario of the IW.net world we'll be looking at a 12 man server...and I say that with doubt because I doubt many if any home users have a 5 or 6Mbit upload connection to the internet.

And don't even get me started on how IW.net could be anything but buggy and troublesome since it's NEVER been tested before, there have been no beta's, there have been no demo's, it's pretty well fresh out of the box and I'm willing to put money down that when this system goes live with the amount of load it's going to receive it's gonna fail in several different ways.

I agree with JoMaMaz. Hit every nail on the head in my opinion.

I've played on Xbox live for CoD4 and Cod5. I personally found it to be horrible just the whole concept on how everything was done. For games like GoW and Halo its fine. Sure console gamers probably love it and that's fine.

Asking for us to be able to use dedicated servers is not that terrible. What would they have to do a little work and release files for a server company to put on so people could rent them? And have a master server list?

This whole easier to manage thing and give people more updates is a load of crap. I don't remember people really complaining about a lack of support. They always come out with a couple of patches and after that its fine. Mods can fix the rest. It's obviously some sort of ploy to extort more money out of the PC gaming community.

The CoD series was built up on dedicated servers which allowed people to have total control really and put whatever mods or maps they wanted. And it let the people show their creativity. Well clearly that's out of the window now.

I myself liked the customization aspect. I liked mapping and found it to be very fun and rewarding especially when people got to play on your map. (Not that mine were good loool)

And from what I heard in the podcast 402 made it pretty clear there are no dedicated servers.

....shocked they haven't decided to add music to the game and release a soundtrack to try and grab another 15 bucks out of gamers, Barret Strong's "Money (thats what I want)" would be a great track to add to it.

This is why they decided to drop call of duty from the game. Honestly, I get where they're coming from with trying to do away with the typical dedicated server setup. It gets old paying a server rental fee. I also get tired of wanting to pull out older games that I use to play back in the day only to fine 4 - 5 servers up and none of them populated....its a great idea if they do it right.

Personally, I still think the games a money grab....but well I guess the argument to that is what game isn't.

Re: Bashandslash Twitter/Webcast Confirms Changes for PC

CoD4 had sell at least 20millions copies around the world; adding all the plataforms, but considering that PC have sold at least the double of the consoles.

CoD5 hadnt reach a quarter of it, and they are still trying a different approach to the tittle; good luck in your empty boat IW.

Just wondering how long they will keep supporting that game in a battlenet system like? Blizzard still support it games to this day, I really doubt that any other will do the same.

That's the editor of PCGamer. Email him telling him you expect a massive spread on why IW are screwing everything up of the removal of dedicated servers.

post his email everywhere you can.

We are not saying that change is bad, we are saying that going backwards 15-20 years to the crappy systems we had before dedicated servers is bad.
I you cant see the difference i seriously wonder who gave you a job, espesially in a company whos business model is renting out DEDICATED SERVERS for money!
