BF series should stick to WW2 era, what about Russian Front etc?

Or how about Korea, slow jets, big tanks etc.

The idea of them releasing a new game a year and a half after releasing bf2 is just dumb in my opinion. I mean, they just added these new officer ranks, they still have bugs to fix with this game, they just added this booster pack with another on the way. why are they making us pay for all these bf2 additions, only to release a completely new game in a few months? I would have rather seen them working on fixing the problems with bf2 instead of working on a whole other game.

I can't say I'm for or against it. I like the idea but it all depends on how EA and DICE make the game.

Just a thought here: if you dont like 2142 dont get it and stick to BF" and get yourself milked on AF or just docht buy any EA games at all. They aren't the only PC game company out there you know...

Exactly. We have a large enough selection of "out there" futuristic shooter games (halo, battlefront 1 and 2, etc...). We dont need EA Dice (who would have a hard time keeping up with the patches on something that big) to make another one. Something maybe twenty or thirty years ahead would be plenty good for me. (I like realistic, and battlemechs, infantry cloaking, and lasers of doom are not realistic yet).

The ironic thing about this is that damn near everyone wishes companies would release games faster. No matter what a company does, there's always gonna be a bunch of jerks that are never satisfied. I have no doubt that EA and DICE have more than enough resources to fix the bugs in BF2, release booster packs, and work on BF2142. The fact of the matter is over 20,000 (20000 * $50) people play BF2 ( http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/ ) and BF2 is also right behind Counter-Strike in terms of user base. It would be a truly foolish business move to just forget about a product you spent years making that happens to be the only real competition to the juggernaut that is CS. BF2 is the only true compitetion that CS has had since TFC and that's saying alot.

Alot of people don't understand that modern games are made by teams of people, not one or two guys doing multiple roles. That gives plenty of space for companies to divide up their resources into different aspects of the same game or multiple games. Lets not forget that EA ($$$$$) practically owns DICE for better or worse. I don't really like EA much but they have the money to do things that other game companies only dream about.

On the subject of bugs, I dare anyone out there to find a PC game that has not had atleast some kind of annoying bug upon release or patches that **** off the community. The truth is that software development is not easy, takes alot of time and mistakes WILL happen. Every gamer has to accept it and move on. The day all the people that complain about BF2's bugs and DICE's perceived lack of expertise get hired by a game company will be the day that they can truly complain about bugs. How would you like to be tasked with finding an annoying yet elusive bug amongst millions of lines of source code(ie finding a needle in a haystack)? I didn't think so.

Now back to 2142: If you don't like it then keep playing BF2. Either way you go EA has your money. I know damn well that when the 2142 demo hits the net, everyone is gonna be playing it. Even all these idiots that are damning the game before they even touched it. Never judge a book by its cover.

By the same logic you could say that we also have a large enough selection of realistic shooter games. C'mon now, how many games have you lugged an M16 around in? You'd figure that people would be tired of using the same guns in every game. When someone tries to escape the bounds of realism and modern day combat you get a bunch of people saying that they are unoriginal. Hypocrites, plain and simple.

Why go back to WW2 when it has been done too many times already by every other developer. 136 years in the future isn't that bad. I mean, they even mentioned that there would not be lasers. I am also anxious about 2142 as well. Me and my cousin have been pumped up for it ever since the mech video leak. You are right about the whiners eating their words when the game comes out. The same exact scenario plays out everytime a sequel is announced:

Why not? With monthly fees rolling in from the servers, it may even be cost effective to keep supporting both.

Yep, I almost forgot that a ton of money is being made from servers as well. EA and DICE have more than enough money to keep the community happy (or angry in the case of a new game)

You dont like Mechs? Too bad! You can keep playing BF2! The Battlefield franchise has already explored nearly every (interesting) war scenerio ever fought. Why in the hell would they make another WW2 BF? I have fought more Nazis and Germans than an entire division of soldiers did in the real war. I AM SICK OF IT! WW2 has been done to death, just let it die peacfully goddamnit!

Korean was like a half and half of Vietnam and WW2; same weapons, but your enemies have yellow skin.

If you dont like the idea, thats fantastic, but keep it to yourself, you're only reposting the same thing that 50 13 year olds have posted before you. However if you have a really good point to make, or something intelligent to say, please share it with us.

BF: Cowboys and Indians
BF: Civil War (if you get out of the firing line you are shot for abandoning the battlefield)
Serious ones -
BF: 2007 (or whatever year) (Follow current events, if it came out now, it would be Coalition forces vs. Taliban and/or Insurgents)
BF: Police (criminals vs police/SWAT) (Capture the Loot gameplay mode! rob a bank and try to make it back to the base)

Model maps and weapons going on right now and even single player missions based on real missions by the military.

Its a good idea, but I think they would have been better off making BF2142 from scratch rather than using the current BF engine, I think there main reason for doing to is so they can get it out before Enemy Territory:Quake Wars comes out, the problem is ET:QW will have a much more stable engine and the game play is excellent from some of the previews Ive read.
