Look up one post (above yours) to see why I dissagree with your statment.
QW will all be sci-fantisy BS. Zappy Laser Death Rays, Aliens, and highly improbible design. Those aspects don't appeal to me much. They've been done to death.

If BF2142 stays the cource towards a believable extention of existing technology, I'll be much more interested.

Let's just say we don't know enough about either game to say anything.

Your point is well-taken, but read down and you will see it isn't all zappy death rays.

Personally, I know that the Doom 3/Quake 4 engine runs extremely smoothly on most computers but has great graphics, and is relatively bug free (compare to BF2).

              From IGN (http://pc.ign.com/articles/681/681217p1.html)
Although this is set only 50 years in the future, ensuring that the humans will have relatively conventional weaponry, the Strogg are saturated with cool-sounding science fiction ideas.
I personally think it will be fun to have both human technology of the future, like a hybrid helicopter (not gas-electric hybrid, a plane and copter combined type deal) and something out there and new. The fact that each class has special abilities beyond tossing an ammo bag (set up a supply station, call in a vehicle drop, set up a weapon emplacement for other classes to use, etc) appeals to me.

Finally, they mention having things like destroyable mirrors and blowable tires on vehicles.

Again, obviously it's just my opinion, but I think Enemy Territory Quake Wars will come out ahead.

Cant wait to see the posts after you tried QW that you have so high expectations too. Ill be there to read it. Bug free and all..

                  Are you kidding??

The raw Doom3 engine flat out sucks for doing any sort of large enviroment. There's a very good reason that they made it all closed in and poorly lit enviroments with very sparse enemies.

On my computer, I can run BF2 with no problems. If I fire up Doom3 and run through a level activating badguys without killing them, it will grind to a halt without fail and within 500 feet.

The net code was so amazingly BAD in Doom3, I only played it a couple times on-line. Even low ping servers lagged worse than me without my morning cup(s) of coffee.

Quake 4 seemed to be more of the same. There was SO much negitive commentary about on-line play and CRAP post-repease support, I didn't even bother with it.

QW is confirmed to cap player counts at 32. The levels will be 1 mile square MAX. Shootable tires and breakable mirrors are kinda neato... but you have to ask "how much will this actually add to gameplay?" and "at what cost?".

Carmack simply isn't the code god that he thinks he is.

Anyway, the rest of your post is valid. We're all entitled to our personal tastes and opinions. I just had to point out a couple flaws in your engine comments.

With luck, they'll both be good and different games offering different flavors of entertainment to suit vaired tastes and styles.

True. Some like this, some like that. That is a fact that will never change. With a change of the game, you will win some and loose some players. Im open minded enough to try both.

To answer the threadstarter: I dont have a doubt in my mind that Dice will, once again, deliver a great product.

You see 32 player will not hit it for me so I won't be bothering unless the gameplay can be exeptual like rtcw.

Your right about net code though, very important, Dice got it right with bf2 concidering bf:v

I must say, I was surprised to see you had trouble with the Doom 3 engine. But sure enough, there's a lot about it online. I based my post on my own experiences with Doom 3 and Battlefield 2, which is basically the opposite of yours. But yeah, it does look like a ton of people have problems with that engine, and you're right about the online play.

I bolded that section because I have assumed (and this could be wrong) that QW would be modified to work better.

Although I love modern warfare and wish BF2 would be finished before BF2142 comes out, I am excited. Vehicles dominate BF2 right now to a terrible degree IMHO. This can't be helped, however, since Vehicles do dominate IRL and the game is based off present day technology.

BF2142 could really go either way but I am hoping that infantry can at least be balanced with the new vehicles. Furture technology leaves everything up in the air, which may or may not be a good thing.

bf2142 is a bad idea, is uncool, people will still complain that their x-6000 laser is way too unacurate, and how the plasma rifle does no damage or how the are t-900x cybertank whores at the spawn point, and how the game lags because of all the lazers and debri.

From what I've been hearing, QW will be based on the Q4 engine modded out of house. In other words, it won't be Carmack doing the modifications.

That's a double edged sword. I know for personal experience that working with an Id engine is a bloody nightmare. Can you say "spagetti code"? I mean, jeez, when I'm pawing through released source, the last thing I want to be seeing are comments like "//THIS IS A HACK! fix before release" all over the place.

On the other hand, it does mean that the engine has a chance of including imporved network code. Id has never shown any interest in doing good network comunication or optimization, so hopefully Splash Damage is coming in with some talent in that field.

It's amusing that the best network code I've seen is in the Torque engine... an engine that has yet to be used for any kind of major release.

                              *shurg*

                              It's a wacky industy.

BF2142 is still using hot flying lead to kill the enemys... there are no lasers in this game. The only laser I can think of is the one that ignights one of the sniper rifles ammo, which probably means that snipers using that certain rifle will give off a nice red laser beam that follows their bullet... unless they just used the sentence "last to ignight the crystal ammo" for effect.

Read the scan's people... it's not going to be like Tribes.
