Re: what idiot out there likes this bf2142 idea....

Why is it that everyone seems to bash everything that EA and Dice do? BF2 came out, people b*tched about the bugs. And the same people have been bashing every patch that's come out. You people need to try a little programing to see what it's like. Now as for the new BF announcement. Great idea, and I'm sure it'll be successful. If you dont like it, dont buy it. That simple. All in all EA and dice have done an excellent job, and if your still playing BF2, you can't legitly argue against that. There, had to rant, now I'm done.

Realism is what its all about. I personally enjoy good, believable games in which modern technology is used (not way futuristic), and I am most certain that 200+ people agree with me Vomit. Yes the new BF is unoriginal and no I did not say BF2 was original (I like to speak for myself). But this BF2 looks like it will still be more fun (at least in my opinion which is all I am suggesting).

When you compare BF2 to other games, the support actually isn't as bad as it seems. The one thing it really needs is mods, mainly custom maps. It will die much sooner than it needed to because of this.

I don't think we can put out any judgements on this until we play it. From the sound of it though, its gonna be a love-it-or-hate-it game. Yes, it may be in the future, but why should that affect your judgement? I try not to let stuff like that affect my judgement. If its a solid game, i don't care if we're playing in the stone ages, as long as its a good game.

There is a background story, a very likely one too. The ice caps are melting, and there is less and less liveable land. It's a fight for the last bit of land. Think it's stupid?

I think thats a good background. Actually gives us a realistic reason to exterminate all the other people.

Ah, actually the naritive seems to be talking about an ice age, not polar melting.

Think "The Day After Tomorrow"... if you've seen it. Not a bad bit of sci-fi as there really are theories to support the story. That's the different between sci-fi (2001 a Space Odasy) and sci-fantisy (Starwars). People just don't know enough to tell them apart.

Quakewars will be science-fantisy... I hope BF2142 will be science-fiction.

i didnt really like the idea when i first read it 'cos i like to fire real guns not ones with green balls of jelly for ammo but real metal, but then i saw the trailer and now can't wait to jump in a mech and let off a few thousand rounds in a second. also is it just me or do the heli's look alot like orcha's from C&C hmmm...

Yeah they look like the Orcas from C&C or the flying things from G-Police. The mechs look cool using actual bullets instead of lasers.

The Orca parallels are a little hard to avoid when you're dealing with logical futuristic design. The way the engines are mounted just makes sence for a non-airfoil based vectored thrust aircraft (try saying that five times fast :p). Infact, if you look at the Orcas closely, you'll notice they are perty much just Apachies with the roaters removed.

In any case it's just another naturally unstable design that needs hugely powerful computers to keep it from flipping out and slamming into the ground

Not so bad if it's got big fruggin gyros in it. Spinning a big arse metal wheel helps keep things much more stable. It would still take a pert good pilot assist computer to keep it in the air, but with more than a hundred years to work on the problem, I think we can assume computers will be up to the task (and prolly would fit in a space smaller than a cellphone).

Believe it or not, this is the mid-sized version. FNH is working on a larger 80 mm variant. That a shoulder launcher on par with tank cannons! Yikes!

Rail guns ain't fiction... here's a home build version in action:

Ok... not really that impressive, but we're talking a car battery, copper wire, and a paper clip! :p
                              This page is more impressive:

Still, shop made. This one is technically a plama gun since the projectial is super heated by the discharge. It's much better at making holes in things.

Check out what one crazy canuck has been doing in terms of armour technology: http://www.infowars.com/articles/sci..._fire_jeep.htm
This is perty amazing... from his Bearsuit (which proved that you can save the human body from almost any physical trama) to his armour bags that look like seatcusions, but can repel a direct hit from an RPG, he's definatly pushing the way towards some interesting future tech.

When it comes to futuristic, stop thinking "Startrek" and start thinking about the fact that we're living in a world that would seem like sci-fi to anyone even 30 years ago. It's only going to develop faster.

well said my friend. perfect post complete with examples.

                              bring on 2142!

This is a great idea. sure.. a few of the BF2 fans might not buy it.. but I bet it brings new players from QW and UT2k7 I for one will never play quake wars.. just not a fan of quake. but i LOVE Unreal. and I think that bf2 meets Unreal will kick arse.
