    Hi All
Heres a little update on An American Baby in Iraq. Havent had as much time as i would like to work on it but its getting there?. Here,s a few images of the steps ive went throught to get the final result. Most of the animation is done and have a lot of it done with physics which is a really cool effect. At the moment im working on a full 3d intro done in 3dmax for the credits, and a trailer.
Software ive used so far. BF2 Recorder/ bf2launcher. Vegas 6 edited & hd movie look . 3D max 8 . Combustion 4. Allso Cooledit for the sound, the finished audio will contain none of the sounds from the game its all redubbed and scored from different sources.
    Progress
    Filmed 95% done
    Edited 80% done
    Animation 90% done
    Effects 85% done
    Sound 95% done

I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product, Smiley! The level of sophistication for a project like yours is not only very exciting it makes me want to aim a lot higher for my own projects.

I'm still limited to taking baby steps at the moment -- there's just so much to learn -- but seeing what others are working on is always inspiring. I know it'll be a long time yet before I'm capable of doing a project as complex and involved as yours but that just makes me all the more eager to learn. In the meantime, I'll continue to marvel at the work being done by the regular contributors to this forum and this thread, in particular (I'm always happy when I see new posts have been added).

My own progress has been hampered for the past few weeks by computer problems galore. The PSU for my secondary computer died near the beginning of the month -- just as I began the rebuild of my main computer -- and in the time since the rebuild, I've had to contend with a litany of problems, including BSODs, random crashes, network failures, and hard drives that spontaneously disappear. Great fun trying to diagnose every little error. :hmm: I swear this computer's cursed, though. I'm probably sitting atop an ancient Indian burial ground or something.

Right now, I'm awaiting the arrival of some new hardware (components that I sincerely hope will solve the last of the problems) and, in the meantime, I'm just planning shots for my next project. I always enjoy this stage! For me, it involves listening to lots of powerful music (always at obscene volumes), pacing around, visualising shots, and writing down ideas.

Oh, and time permitting, I'm going to buy a copy of Sony Vegas and give it a whirl. (Xalias, I know you'll be proud of me!) I figure it couldn't hurt to get my head around as many high-quality NLE suites as possible.

Hehe, good to hear you and your computer are well John. :p

When I'm towards the home straight of making OBS I'll start to focus on posting here a bit more often. Sometimes it can be very quiet in these forums, and every now and again there be some major unheard-of release or thread topic that makes me stumble a bit (not literally, but in my head sort of thing) and it's sometimes like movie making. I have found over the past weeks that every so often (no matter how prepared everything was) you'll come across a certain something like a hole in the movie where you have no footage. So it's a case of starting up Bf2, filming these little 1 man scenes.
(that's just me Joe, so don't worry about setting up a server or anything, lol. I got it handled)

Even though I feel nobody will even notice, BUT really make all the difference, and it's feeling of worth in any movie project thats one of the feelings that makes it for me.

              About Sony Vegas btw.
Ever since Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 came out ("There’s a 2.0?!?" I hear you say) there have been rumours of Sony Vegas 7.0 being released. It's definitely being worked on, but Sony is one of those companies you don't hassle. You could find that Vegas 7.0 hits you in the face when it's released with little marketing so I don't expect to find a release date.
I'm not putting you off, John, from spending that much money, but I would want you to be aware that if you find anything (and I mean anything) about future deals on Sony products when you buy into Vegas that you select "yes" (even though there won't be a check box) because you may get a half price or a small upgrade price deal to Sony Vegas 7.0, if you have version 6.0 and the papers to prove it.

              That's all folks.

I know exactly what you mean, Xalias. I'm hoping once my computer becomes a bit more reliable I'll be able to contribute more often.

Your advice re: Sony Vegas was much appreciated, by the way. I'll definitely read up on the subject of new versions and possible release dates in advance of making any decisions. Needless to say, being able to pursue inexpensive upgrades would help because I'd much rather spend my meagre funds on hardware.

Actually, there's an interesting question for everyone working on BF2 movies:

What hardware / software have you acquired to help in the development of your projects?

My own list would have to include:
                - Premiere Pro 1.5
                - Fraps (full version)
                - Hard Disk: Two 300GB Western Digital IDE hard drives.
                - Hard Disk: 320GB Western Digital IDE (for back-ups of all my data).
                - External Enclosure: New Motion Odyssey 3.5 Firewire & USB2.0 Combo.
                - PSU: Antec TP2-550EPS12V TruePower 2.0 550W EPS.
                - CPU: AM64 X2 3800+ (Dual Core)
                - Video Card: Albatron GeForce 7800GTX
                - Memory: Corsair TWINX 2048MB DDR, XMS3200

No wonder I'm broke. This can be an expensive little hobby ...

LOL I do the most with the little money I have. Which means super optimizing, chances are, if you come across any miracle performance tweak or computer management strategy... I've tried and tested them all.
Both in and outside my computer, I make it the best it can possibly be, which includes the breaking and replacing of a faulted stock heatsink. With an idle CPU running at 65 degrees plus, I'd rather find the best value heatsink around then pay 10x for a replacement processor!

Clan has finally got a server, working on ENDGAME Episode 1, hoping for a Mid-Late May release.

Hoping to get a Website up soon and considering an ENDGAME Episode Zero which will basically be a small video of mainly just text and images going over my backstory for ENDGAME explaining the plot to save me having to do an intro for Episode 1 which is annoying because if I do it that way to takes too long but with a seperate Mini-Episode I can explain the plot in better detail.

My PC specs are low (I run on a laptop) but luckliy using battleluancher I can get some good results:

                            Proccesor: AMD 64 3700+
                            GPU: ATI 9700 128mb
                            Ram: 1gb
HDD: 80gb + 160gb external (had to buy when i started making movies)

                            ---------------------

I have also made good proccess on "Warlord" and hope for a release sometime in the next to weeks. Its going to be around 15 mins of good (hopefully) footage.

Sir. Xios. Thats a bummer thats a laptop you have because you could upgrade the video card and you'd have a rearly good system. and another 1 gig ram.

Anyone have there release dates & film times for there movies ? .... An American baby in Iraq will be about 6 - 7 minutes inc Credits.

Glad I'm not alone in spending a bit of cash to aid in the creation of these projects! Machinima is well-worth the expense, though, because you get the added bonus of a better computer for playing games.

Thank-you, Smiley! I've got to say, that's a huge compliment coming from anyone but especially from you. In the projects you've released so far, you've demonstrated a level of technical proficiency that really raised the bar for people like me. I've got a great deal of respect for you because it's very clear from your work that you're committed to achieving high-quality results and that you'll spend as much time as it takes to get everything right.

Great to hear, Neo! For those of us anticipating ENDGAME, it's a relief to hear the server problem has been overcome.

The idea behind Episode Zero is an interesting one. Then again, sometimes it's also good to have virtually no backstory so that you can use every little event to pique and toy with the curiosity of your audience; get them wondering right from the start, "Who are these people and why are they doing these things?" Tease them with answers ...

Your earlier release, "Infiltration," definitely lent itself to that kind of writing. I think, more often than not, the less the audience knows going in, the more fun you can have rewarding their curiosity with enlightening details during the story itself. (Of course, whether or not that approach would work well with ENDGAME, I have no idea!)

Very cool, Xios! "Warlord" has been a long-time coming and I've certainly been looking forward to seeing the end result. I didn't realise it was so close to completion, so that's excellent news.

(I really should respond to Smiley's questions before this post ends up being any longer.)

Some more details about my next project:
                                - I've more or less made up my mind that the next video I release is not going to be story-based; it'll be a montage of shots set to music and if I use the tune I have in mind, the running time is unlikely to exceed 90 seconds. I just want to get a bit more practice with editing, shot composition and certain effects before I attempt something more advanced, so this project will provide that opportunity.
                                - Release date? Not sure yet. I might have to do what I did with "Khalid's Surprise" and offer to pay a friend $300 cash if I fail to finish it by a certain date; that worked a treat last time!
                                - As with KS, I'll be going it alone and probably creating all the bf2demos in single-player but if I'm really desperate, I might download some multi-player demos and do my best to obscure the low quality settings (I'm yet to play on a public server where the BFR demo quality is set to anything above 1 ).
