Future Media Movie Projects (Listed here)

    Hey, everyone!

I just wanted to pose the question: "What are you working on?" to all the regular visitors to this forum. In particular, I'd like to learn the details of your current BF2 project(s) and find out when you expect to release the end result.

(Below you can read information regarding the future projects members of this site are undertaking.)
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    John-Paul
Me? I'm doing some 'prep work' (I guess you could say) before undertaking a new project. I've been downloading lots of game trailers -- mainly for PC and Xbox360 -- and looking at the effects, transitions, editing, etc. and trying to work out what new things I should learn. I want each of my projects to be more complex and demanding than the last, so it's an essential part of the process.

    Keyelite
Quoted from the other thread, ill try to address what you need..

I have been working on my chase at fushe pass (working title) for about 7 months now. The reason behind this is i originally didnt have enough actors to film when i wanted to and i keep adding on scenes to enhance the storyline, as well as some other snags i had along the way (computer crash).

But now, the situation has changed.. What is currently tying me up is that I am waiting for a coder to create some mods so i can finish 3 scenes and i need some specific voices for voice. Also, for some reason, the demos i make in the current patch version does not work for me... I will have to resolve that issue too.
The majority of the video is done though.. Here is a screenshot of the timeline to give you a better understand of how much is left, john. (the red is what i have left to do.)

As you can see its only five minutes long, but its five minutes of solid action, no fluffing it up to make it longer like some movies do. The movie is more about action, since it features a chase.. So far i believe its the most complex i have done to date (and i have the same mentality as you, john. Always trying to make the next project more complex than the last). I am not trying to fluff it up with all these special effects and transitions, since i believe that detracts from the main point of the movie if they are randomly thrown in there (such as a really bright diffuse glow that does not help with the mood at all, but is there because they think it "looks cool"). Also, john, I believe you do this already but take into consideration the critical posts of any movies you previously released. With my ambush at mashtuur city movie, people complained about the nametags, how short it was, and how it didnt have too much of a plot. I now have no nametags whatsoever, a five minute video, and a story with enough backround to expand in all directions if need be.
    Sample screenshot of the movie:

Anyways, there is no set release date untill I actually get a coder and all my other current issues are sorted out first (if anyone wants to code visit http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55277 ). This movie should have taken a fraction of the time if everything just went right.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Sir. Darkstar10
im in joe shmoes movie coming up, but i have just finished writing the script of my own movie that i am doing with www.itf-gaming.com. it should be finished in the next two months hopefully, but the new patch screwed up bfr so its delayed.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Sir. Xios
I am currently working on The Sir. Community's next movie "Warlord". It was filmed in the previous patch (1.12) so i have to wait till i have finished editing untill i can patch and play bf2 again. Im hoping for a release around april 06 but we will see how close to that it actually is.
Heres some of the work so far -

    ----------------- EDIT --------------

Having seen other peoples replies i thought it would be best to add a bit more of a description to this movie.
I have been experimenting with Premiere for quite along time now and this is my first major project. After this is released i am planning to learn After effects in more detail.

As there haven't been any other major movies made in BF2:SF yet hopefully this will be the first. It is suppose to be a dramatic movie with sutble effects. The main effort has already been put into filming a lot of good close combat scenes. I'm currently working on rendering the demo files and making sure i can achieve good camera angles with smooth movements.

Unfortunately I don't have a high spec PC so to make this a high quailty it is all filmed in battlelauncher. This means reandering and editing takes a lot longer but will hopefully produce very good results. As for sound in the movie i will be using ingame sounds straight from the game files, and hopefully external sounds will be put to use in some places. This is going to be a fairly long movie at 10 minutes plus, but i am trying to make sure the content is a highquailty all the way through.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    NeoRicen
Well I'm currently working on ENDGAME Episode 1 but I can't really get to work on it until my clan gets a server which hopefully will be happening soon, at which point I'll get right into Episode 1.

Episode 1 is a remake of Infiltration but besides the basic plot and location it's entirely different, it is on a smaller scale to Later episodes so will be finished quicker than they will, with any luck it will be done by May and could possibly done by late April.

Because I was originally making the movie as one big movie (and out of order) I have quite a bit of stuff done from Episode 4 which unfortunately is useless to me at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that all 5 Episodes of ENDGAME will be released over the course of the year with Episode 5 probably being released around October/November.

I'm looking forward to doing Episode 5 as it should be really great as it will feature 2 very large action scenes intercut.

Besides that info I can give the titles for the 5 Episodes.

    Episode 1: Infiltration
    Episode 2: Interruption
    Episode 3: Determination
    Episode 4: Confrontation
    Episode 5: Annihilation

The Episodes will be set on Songhua Stalemate (episode 1), Fue She Pass (Episode 2, 3), Dragon Valley, (Episode 4,5) and Dalian Plant (Episode 2,3,4,5)

Each Episode will get more and more action packed so Episode 1 will only be a small taste of Episode 5 howeverf Episode 3 MAY be a bit more action packed than Episode 4.

    Sir. Xalias
Sure, I don't mind giving a small insight of my current status and future development.

Here at XaliaS Designs, I very much like to categorize and prioritize, like the kind of person I am. The actual thinking (which can be recovered from mind) is placed on paper and on computer.
All the paper work is found in my sketch book with some of the larger works pined up. Since I have no other name for this stage I simply call it "the wall"

The powerhouse happens on the PC where I can find a range of notepad files and... Everything else!

Right now I'm more or less idling (believe it or not)

Like John, I've always been testing new waters from the time my latest main project, (aka RazzamatazZ) was published.

Out of Sony Vegas I'm mostly training with Photoshop CS2.
The past weeks I have been "attempting" the jazz my site up with the help of a few new graphics.

I've recently been checking out Adobe After Effects on my goal to learn a few new things from others: I rendered my first practise scene with rain, glare, fire fly type things, sky, lighting in attempt to build on my knowledge of how things were done in "Sand of Fire", without the help of templates or help files.
The result took way too long to do, and I do agree with keyelite on this one... over doing effects isn't going to make it look better, and I'd rather spend time on more important things of a movie.

Saying that, my new logo animation is coming along quite nicely:

One of my new editing strategies in Vegas is to keep things tidy. Which means removing that extra unnecessary layer, reducing the amount of key frames/effects and basically keeping things as simple as possible. Which is what Vegas does better then Premiere Pro does imo.

For example, the most fun I had was when I was designing my new titles, playing around with all the different effects, knowing in full mind that I wouldn't allow massive motion blurs or exploding things in the final version.
The actual title can be made in less then 5 minutes yet this 10 second animation took over 4 hours of experimenting!

...Shows how far I'm willing to go for this company facelift.

    BF2 Movies!

Not giving away too much, I have 2 projects and a mini-project in the works... which are all on idle at this point in time.

One of my personal aims of movie making was to show my movie flexibility (for portfolio sake) in the way that I can do a range of moods.

    (Prioritized)

    1. Operation Burning Sands - Drama, and I'm very proud to be working on such a big project with a great community, a where everybody has a chance to be in it. I certainly won't disappoint Joe and his colleagues. The people with the mind behind the story.

    2. A little mini-project - sketch/parody, About 8 minutes length.
I always wanted to do a sketch like Monty python was to mine and convert existing media into BF2 format. Everything has already been planned for this, and I expect it to be a fast make where I don't have to rely on thinking about a plot/how it plays or how it's going to look when I have nice source files to reference.

    3. Last Formation (working title) - The first real BF2 Thriller. (which I like to think)
For my last confirmed BF2 movie I wanted to do something that had never been done before, not to this degree anyway... something really big that has it all for every audience. (except for over emotional people)

On the next level from an action movie, this "Thriller" will combine very heavy action/stunts with the "that's cool" comedic element.
I'm very excited about the strong story I have written down, by which I mean that the story is very flexible with lots of spaces for twists and very funny moments.
I will have some screenshots soon (a sort of artist interpretation) and will be using a little help from third party programs (like American Baby in Iraq is)
But before all the real comotion kicks off and before the release is anywhere near: my best theoretical trailer will be made to stir the community for some time I hope.

So that's it, on the battlefield.

I know a pal over at PBF would be asking me right now, what about the other possible movie in BF2?
Well, entitled "The Uncappables", a more ethical take at BF2 - it is still on the wall. The main trouble is staying optimistic about all my projects. Like many of my RCT3 works, I can start strong and quickly get bored of the idea; hence I won't start developing this idea because it will only get abandoned.

About the status reference thread on movies - with the release of the trailer for Burning Sands, I promise to make a thread which I can update regularly about its progress, as I'm trying to do over on my site now. Depending on how the progress image works on my site, I may move the graphic over here and stop the site updates. Currently though, allot of fans from PBF also check my site for updates/exclusive content. I don't think PBF would approve of linking to this forum from a thread over there. Although I can do both right now, it's when my hands are full of making movies that I won't have the time to update things. But if I was to choose one, updating a thread here is much easier.

    Phew, long type.:p

    Sir. Side
    "THE FINAL STAND"
This is bascially a War Movie, One thing Unique about this movie is that, when i start filming i will be filming this is very short scenes. As in big Hollywood productions you can make 10 guys seem like an army of 10,000 men. I have been experimenting on this, and have some promising results.

The Audio for this movie, is mostly outside sound fx, I will try to use minimal in-game sounds, as i want the best quality out of it. I have also been experimenting with ampifying gun shots. Also another new feature that most films in bf2 have not had is the actualy sounds of the bullets going into a persons body. I have used several films and tweaked sounds to see the outcome of that, it has not come out entirely the way i want it to, but it showed some results that if worked more on can and definately will be an ear popper to hear.

This movie is also going to be using alot of actor voices. I have been playing around with "Audacity 1.3 beta version" and try to remove the noise and such background noises, have not had promising results, so was hoping if you guys have any tips on that.

Finally this movie right now is in its scripting stage. I have actually set up a whole filming crew, with Directors, Producers, Special effects and audio personal so everything is organized and done in parts so then at the end the whole puzzle is put togather in one peice.

Another Project that i have started working on is a remake of the "red vs blue" series from Halo. I am working on the script right now. Its an all original script with entirely of new characters and new story lines. So i am definately looking forward to working on that. If anyone is interested in teaming up with me to work on this, then that will be highly appreciated. :) Thats all i have to give for now. And i am definately looking forward to seeing all of your projects. They seem very well thought out and a sure hit. Thank you for the time.

I'm working on a formation flight movie. Stunts/Story will be implemented. We are at a stand still as of now becuase of lack for our own bf recorder server. We have completed some scenes but I can not release screen shots of it , would ruin whole thing lol.

I'm constantly working on a BF2 movie script but am never finished so I spend that time on the BattleLauncher app instead =/

Re: So ... what are you working on?

Yeah... for the most part. The weight of the cars, the power of certain weapons, etc. Three of the scenes cannot be done without a little extra help of a mod that tweaks what is necessary to get it done.

Re: So ... what are you working on?

Wow, I wasn't anticipating such detailed replies. Thanks, everyone! Very cool; it's great to read these sorts of details and to see screenshots and timelines in programs such as Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas. Being able to learn the status of these projects is not only intriguing, it really adds to the anticipation.

Keyelite, I completely agree with what you, NeoRicen and Xalias wrote about special effects and transitions. I don't like to see them put in unless they subtly compliment the overall style of the video. Simply using them because they look 'cool' seems unwise, unless perhaps the video is merely of the experimental kind. I remember well the "3V Aviators" movie being inundated with a wide range of effects and had it been story-based, such randomness would have been out of place and thoroughly detracted from the overall quality.

The trailer I'm closely examining right now is a great example of one that I consider worthy of analysis; it's for "War Front - Turning Point" and it's quite stylish and incorporates most of the effects I'm keen to learn for my next project.

Keyelite, I vaguely recall reading (might have been on the SSE forums) that you were learning a bit of 3DS Max. Am I right? If so, have you used any of that knowledge for elements of "Chase at Fushe Pass"?

I'll definitely take into consideration the criticisms levelled at "Khalid's Surprise." The negative comments invariably concerned the absurdist-style humour which just didn't 'do it' for some people, though in re-watching the film, I can also see where the editing was poor and in need of tightening up.

Even before having seen the projects discussed in this thread, I feel somewhat intimated because I know they're all going to be fantastic.

NeoRicen, I've been looking forward to seeing ENDGAME for such a long time but especially after seeing "The Duel." I think that video really demonstrated your commitment to achieving tremendous quality.

I'd happily keep a blog going alongside you and the others. Seems like a great idea! Being able to encourage one another and discuss methods / theories / ideas would be a lot more enjoyable than going it alone and I dare say it'd help each of us to work harder, learn faster, and ultimately achieve better results.

Senap, I'd love to read your script when it's finished!

Adobe After Effects is a program I'm very keen to learn, too, Xalias. I've accumulated plenty of text-based educational resources for learning the program but have not yet started reading them because I'm still getting through half a dozen Premiere Pro DVDs. So much to learn! I love it, though.

This is a problem for me, too. I quickly become impatient with the execution of certain ideas and then move on before allowing myself adequate time to follow through. Hell, the main reason I finished "Khalid's Surprise" was that I told a friend of mine (Nathan, mentioned in the credits) that if I didn't have it done by a certain date, I'd pay him $300 cash! I'd recommend that method to anyone.

Finally, I can't wait for the release of "Warlord." I'm confident it'll be the Sir. Community's best movie yet. Just take your time and make it the best it can be.

            (Sorry for the novel, everyone!)

Yeah, i wanted to experiment around with it, just to get a feel of 3D Animation.

I've read all of the posts here and damn I'm impressed. Didn't realize so many of you were working on a project. I'll try to contact little_donkey asap so he can post some insight information. I haven't seen him for a couple of days, should get a hold of him next week.

Btw, why not make this thread a sticky one? Rename it to 'Future BF2 movie projects' or smth... to make it official. I think this is a great thread for all movie makers! Also, why not make an index in the first post (and keep it updatet) with an overview of which team/person is working on what project.

Great idea, i will sticky it right now and edit the first post with all the names of the people and their projects. It will be a pretty long post, but will be definately worth it. :) Thanks for the idea "StRuPiE".

Re: Future Media Movie Projects (Listed here)

StRuPiE and myself are still working hard on the ‘Sands of Fire’ movie project. We are constantly rewriting the scenario, changing things and coming up with new ideas. Just recently we found 2 voice actors that will help us covering the voices for the movie.

The last 2 months I’ve been trying to learn the bf2-editor. I wanted to create some custom maps for the movie, particularly for a few scenes that we had in mind. Last week I finished our movie map. There is one person from the mod-community that helped me a lot with the maps, so I want to thank him for the great work he has done.

Normally, this week we should restart shooting, we had a little break because we had to focus on some real life events. The first part of the movie was completely shot with the battlerecorder. But we were not quite happy with it so we searched for other methods. BR is a great tool for replaying matches but is totally not suitable for movie making or not in a way we want to use it.

The main problem we encountered from the start is that I was used to record scenes in real time, like I did for The Fallen One. I placed the camera where I wanted to, the actors did the action where my camera was, and all shots were made chronologically. Unlike in battlerecorder where i have to move the camera in reference to the action most shots in BFV resulted in quality camerawork and fantastic compositions. So I really prefer a direct method of filming, real-time, shot by shot. Recording in battlerecorder is slow, difficult and very time consuming! Second problem, the damn nametags. We had to find a method to get rid of it, so we could shoot in real-time, without hud and without tags. And finally, after some time we came up with a solution. But we had already lost a serious amount of time, also considering the patches that come out fast paced resulting in incompatible demo files.

The movie is about a soldier that gets captured by Iraqis and the struggle of the US forces to get him freed. It’s a lot of action and drama mixed together. So the base idea isn’t very original and it would be kind of boring if it was only that, so we decided to dig deeper in the story of some characters and tell a story with dialogues, and for these dialogues we needed some voice actors. So I’m really excited how that will work out. It’s the first time we make a movie like this with real dialogues and apperantly it’s not going to be an easy task.

We already have about 6 mins of rough footage. And that’s only the 1st part of the movie, from a total of 3. From this moment on, it’s getting very interesting. From a director’s point of view that is. We’re a little bit behind on schedule and the movie is taking much more time than expected. So the estimated release of april/may 2006 will probably not archieved, but you never know

After watching our teaser, I assume most people will be thinking that we overused the effects,... but rest assured, most shots were not done yet and all shots were just randomly edited to meet our teaser needs. At the end, when the movie will be released, every shot will justify itself. Why did we use so much effects in our movie you may say? Well, when watching a game movie you will always see it as a GAME movie. Thats something we don’t want to do with Sands of Fire. We want to make a movie, a machinima, that people won’t see as just another game movie. And like in The Fallen One we tried to hide the ‘game’ part, by adjusting the colors and adding subtle lighteffects, thus creating an unique ambience. Without that we never would have found the right mood for the movie.

But with Sands of Fire we just had to go further, combining all the skills we had and even beyond that. So we added some effects to fit the situation. Like rain, lighteffects, blood, smoke, fire, etc... Although most of the effects are massive and are only in the first part of the movie so like 25% of it, the other 75% will have less effects and more of the original BF2 feeling.

Another big dissapointement in bf2 is that the models don’t have facial animations or hand animations like in bfv. In bfv you could give signs and stuff, but with bf2 that’s not possible so we had to search (again) an alternative way to overcome that problem.

So here are a few exclusive production shots. The first pic will show the editing project in vegas and it’s kinda messy because we added some sounds but are still not final. Because of the magnitude of the movie we decided to work in parts, so this is part 1.

2nd screen is the compositing, here it can get pretty messy too, sometimes with more then 40 layers.
The effects aren’t just a filter placed on the movie sequence. It goes much further than that, keying, tracking, animating, etc...

Like for the rain, I render different types of rain in a 3d program, one for the back, front, on vehicles and characters from top, splashes etc. and then finally, putting everything together. Here’s an example!

As you can see, still a lot of work

So that wrap’s it up. Looking forward to the other movies in this thread too. Our deepest respect goes out to the fellow movie makers that try to give something back to the community, and as far as we can tell, all of the projects look very promsing!

Here are some other exclusive previewshots for the totalbf2 Community! Hope you’ll all enjoyed it, sorry for the misspellings, our English is a bit messy at times.

I'd like to say a thank you for your input [LRRP]Little_Donkey and [LRRP]StRuPiE.

I see a couple of new programs I've never seen or heard of before and I'm thrilled to pieces that you are using Vegas in that mix (it's the best)
Certainly gives me something to aim for looking at the quality and work involved in the editing programs. Just like piecing a puzzle together it’s the most layers I've ever seen, sweet screens too.

Just one thing you didn't cover which is evident in the screenshots and that's the sound effects.
Where do you source your files?

Is it online, from other games (I know FS has great rain effects) have you brought one of those director CD's with it all, or like me... a little mix of everything.

Keep up the good work LRRP!

P.S. I'm dumping After effects now lol, it is of no use to me. Vegas 7.0 comes out soon.

Very interesting read there "Littledonkey" Some awesome work going on. Great screens. This just makes the wait for the movie more nerve recking. After seeing the work put into this movie, you just gavew me such a moral boost, now i working 100times as hard on my movie :p This thread is officially my post precious thread on this forums. John-Paul if you can do me a favor and edit hte first post and add the information, that would be greatfull. :)

BTW if i may ask what program are you using for the light effects and such, i know about the rain, I have done something similiar but for a 3d animation movie. You are using Vegas, lightwave 3d and whats the third one? :)

As for me im trying to perfect the art of acting in bf2. Alot of movies, the acting gets kind of sketchy where it seems out of place. I am testing out the bf2 animations to see what kind of positions i can work with which will look real and have the feel to it. Any of you guys try suc ha thought. It can be very helpfull if used right.
