Re: Gift to Pilots stuggling to adapt.

Well, before someone go and check my stats to reply I can tell you that I have 50 kills and 38 deaths as an aviator in this game.... maybe like wargimp. The reason why I do not fly is the same as wargimp's reason... no more. I even got those 50 kills as a gunner/copilot in the bombers in Op Clean Sweep.

However, I used to fly a lot in DesertCombat. I spent A LOT of hours on "DC No Fly Zone Map" which is basically an air only map. i know there are some differences between DC and BF2 jets/missiles, but the jets physics is almost the same.

I can tell you that some of those maneuvers referenced in the initial post by Wargimp (who, in my opinion, is one of the best/most mature members in this forum) and the ones given later can be very helpful. Do not think about doing the exact same maneuver! you need to understand the ideas and concepts behind each maneuver. some of them are very effective. in all of those maneuvers it is better if you get used to looking inside the cockpit.

if you fail to use some of those in the game then it is simply because you do not know how to do them, not because they do not work in bf2. Although they look very simple, but they need some skill and practice.

        Don't I know it...

I'm not even bothering anymore, totalbf2 has become quite unfriendly, it's hardly worth it.

Re: Gift to Pilots stuggling to adapt.

I find planes VERY hard, but now after months of BF2 I have had my first Air to Air kill

It was awsome, I still suck, I play with the mouse but there are some great tips here:)

I love PLANE WHORE...he has the right attitude.

Guys like Wargimp with their negative ratios on every weapon, kit, and game played need to step back and show him some respect.

with or without negative ratios, we have to respect each other. Positive ratios don't give you special rights to be rude.

No, but they lend weight to your arguments.

It's a nice site, but I don't think it belongs in a BF2 forum though.

Re: Gift to Pilots stuggling to adapt.

The people saying things like "air combat is more skilled now", and "you could never land missiles in 1.1 dogfights" are flat out wrong, and go against what all of my experience pre and post patch tells me. It certainly is more dangerous now in 1.2 for a pilot, but what few seem to understand is dealing with a dangerous environment (which has new threats that do not care how good you are) does not entail an increased level of skill required to compete or succeed in said environment. It rewards the meek and the submissive, rather than the bold and aggressive. Though, for pilots who have adapted to a submissive style of flight have already lost, as they won't do any more for their team than a single groundpounder.

I remember old style air combat, and I even find myself craving that challenge now, as it was pure skill that was involved. To be dominant and successful required technique, experience, hand-eye coordination, and strategy. Plus, and the reason I loved it so much, is that the cannons actually had a purpose in air to air combat. That is what I loved most about 1.1, was being an ace shot with the cannons. They could take a plane out from full health in less than two seconds, and if you could lead them properly they were deadly every single time you got behind your ignorant target. I even managed to take my cannons to the level of using my cannons in a stealthy way to get behind the enemy plane and slightly above it, and shoot the pilot right out of his cockpit with no more than a few bullets. That kind of a kill was a rush, and you got a huge amount of deserved gratification for a well earned kill and a true victory of wits over your opponent. It took skill to dogfight well, and my air superiority was the reason I was so successful score wise, as no pilot was ever able to challenge me.

To those who are saying you couldn't land missiles in a dogfight are flat out wrong. While I certainly loved cannons, I got the bulk of my 1000's of air to air kills from missiles. You actually had to think, and match velocity with another planes, and follow them throughout turns, and fire at them when they were vulnerable (such as after they had executed a sharp climb that dropped their speed). I could land my air to air missiles one after the other with a very high hit rate. While on the other hand inexperienced pilots would blow all of their ammunition trying to hit me at a less than opportune time.

Air combat was infinitely better before the only deciding factor was who spots who first out of nothing more than pure chance, and any one who disagrees with me is simply not being honest, or is possibly a mentally handicapped individual.

To who? Guys like you who get their stats reset? You'll get respect when you earn it as a person. Not based on some stats.

I could have sworn you had your stats reset? ...was that someone else? If not, aren't you the LAST person on this planet who should comment about someone's stats? Considering you never earned yours in a legit fashion?

...if it isn't you. You're just being an ass. A lot of people play PRMM and Unranked servers to avoid this mindset. So, you really cannot base much off of a flawed Stat. system that's commonly exploited. Hell, it's being exploited by someone, somewhere, as I type this.

Air to air action with only missile use and lesser maneuvering skills involed isnt enjoyable action.

These are good tatics, but in BF2 the map is too small to do many of them. You hit the ceiling too fast, and the plane stalls out. Any one know what the best corner velocity is in BF2? In Falcon 4.0, it was about 400 kts. If I try it in BF2, it stalls out.

Neither is playing a ground pounder and having any noob pilot rule the skies. Now it takes skill.
