Roof Camping? Yes or No

I like the concept of roof camping personally, as it adds a dimension of realism I enjoy. After all, real warfare isn't a predictable, formulaic affair -- it's meant to be difficult to spot enemies sometimes, and challenging to take them out.

I also played BF2 a lot, and almost every single rooftop was reachable in that game -- even the tops of power plant cooling towers. People being way up high was kind of expected, although BF2142's maps are in general more formulaic and so when people break away from the norm it's a bit more surprising. I do miss the comparably more open and free-range maps of BF2.

It's clear that getting onto rooftops isn't something DICE expected, though. Quite a few rooftops in the game are actually glitchy, with aerials floating in mid air and stuff like that. That wouldn't have been allowed if they expected people to actually be up there (while such visual glitches are completely acceptable and indeed most games where players aren't expected to be).

That said, if a server admin doesn't like it, I respect that (and usually just play elsewhere as they often have more silly rules too).

Same here. It can be loads of fun, and so far as I can tell the roofs are equally available to both teams.

I hate it. Once in either belgrade or fall of berlin this guy kept on reviving me and i'd get either sniped or rocketed before i could even stand back up. I finally realized the guy that was fragging me was on the roof. ugh.

Think of it as a strategy. It's fun because ground fighting on some maps can get boring. So you switch to the roofs of buildings. Great for snipers.

I'm FOR it. Please DICE don't change it.

Btw I love it because the view from the roofs are great :)

Actually it is very cheap. You are really not helping your team but instead camping for points.

I don't think there is anything wrong being on the roof.

As long as you don't pod from PAC base(fall of Berlin) to the roof on the crossroads or even roadblock. Then i have nothing against it.

Roof campers usually means lot of points for me anyways...

I can agree being up on a position where no one else can reach and mowing everyone down is somewhat fun, but it's unfair and unfun for the other team IMO. For once, consider someone else apart from you. Not really directed at anyone though.

One of my friends does a lot of modding. Now, he told me that it if DICE wanted to it would have been very simply to stop any pod drifting by simply removing the movement feature of beacon drop pods - but they DIDN'T - nor have they in any of the subsequent patches.
This says to me that they don't care and that it's fair game.

Personally, i like it - it's a good tactic to do and it's a challenge to play against

                        *thumbs up*

Fun for you perhaps, but its not fun for the people spawning below you when you and your buddies make sure there is a grenade laying in wait for every new arrival.

Its a cheap tactic, nothing really skillful about it as you mask yourself from ordinary weapons fire, and are invisible to everyone at ground level, pds1/uav dots are sadly not enough to range pk rockets by, and grenades often cannot reach.

It's yet another crutch for the truly desperate, its a shame to see actual skillful people embarrass themselves with it.

its funny reading comments like this... all you have to do is adapt... i was on the EU base roof the other day in CG... we were pushed back to the EU base flag with 2 walkers sitting outside, infantry all over the place, put a pod down got on the roof and helped defend our last flag... why would that be a cheap tactic? I should be allowed to defend our last flag with every method available and if that included getting on the roof so be it.....

The cheese factor in this particular example is low since the other team had the advantage and were in no position to get raped. Had the roles been reversed and had the pac team be on the roof it would have been a different story all together. The "tactic" is usually used offensively, and apart from getting your own beacon up and podding down, and hoping they dont see you there is nothing you can do about it. Pk rockets lack enough explosive power to fire blindly for succes.
