i was going to say that "if the shoe was on the other foot" its no fun but there is a time to do it and a time not to....Originally posted by The 13th RaptorThe cheese factor in this particular example is low since the other team had the advantage and were in no position to get raped. Had the roles been reversed and had the pac team be on the roof it would have been a different story all together. The "tactic" is usually used offensively, and apart from getting your own beacon up and podding down, and hoping they dont see you there is nothing you can do about it. Pk rockets lack enough explosive power to fire blindly for succes.Comment

It also keeps one squad member from TKing another podding at the same time. I'm pretty sure that DICE didn't want to mess around with this too much.Originally posted by HTE1From memory, it was left in to give poddies of a camped beacon a bit of a chance to escape.
I believe that roof camping is entirely within the realms of normal game play. I don't care to do it myself very often. Every rare occasion I'll do it because it is the right thing to do for the situation. But, I never "camp" up there. That gets boring faassst. And it's lame too.
I like to shoot the enemy. Not kill them with APMs, RDX or grenades. I play BF to shoot :ar15: because it is fun. The other kills I understand people like, but they aren't for me--not because I'm leet, but because I join a game to take aim.Comment

I noticed something interesting on Camp Gibraltar the other day. On top of the tower to the east of Toll Station, the one snipers like to climb up in, there is one of those exploding barrels. Now why would dice put one up there unless they thought someone might get up there somehow and they were giving you a way to clean them off of it.

I'd say you are looking too much into it, if the developers expected rooftop camping to become popular you'd see more of these explosive arrangements, and not just one example on one roof in one map.Comment

Well, if that's the way you want to see it. That screenie makes a point to me. :salute:

It is annoying, but it's there. Most of the time it is pretty simple to find a nice spot where you can see the roof and just pick them off. Bottom line, people who complain about them in a serious way (talking of nerfing/banning people who participate) aren't skilled enough to get rid of said campers. Generally you can see them much more easily than they can see you since their body is silhouetted against the sky. While I generally don't try to roof camp since I don't think it's as rewarding as being in other positions on the map, I do participate occasionally.
Tired of roof campers? Grab a sniper rifle, get to cover, and kill them.
Also, that red barrel on Gib is pretty hard to see. I hadn't even noticed it until now.Comment

just noticed that? if i am board enough to balst my self up there i just kill the barrel with pistol then do happy sniping!:nod:Originally posted by SkatesI noticed something interesting on Camp Gibraltar the other day. And its not because people can rdx themselves up there?
On the Timeless servers we don't allow pod surfing on Gibralter. We have discussed it time and time again on our forum and we all agree that using pods to get to different flags bypasses the WHOLE point of gibralter which is a flag by flag hard slog!
The entire TCF clan was banned off Timeless server because of it as they set up a hard to get to beacon and then surfed allover the map. It became pointless trying to capture the flags at the end because they would simply fly over your head behind you and recapture the ones that had been safely taken. Timeless admins choice of course and not to everyones liking but the gameplay is what we protect.
Play the game the same as the majority of players do and use your skill to be the best and not the odd exploit you decide to use that others wouldn't bother with.
On topic. Roof play is OK. Ive landed on a roof with well placed pods loads of time, no surfing nedded. I got my knife gold on Berlin slinging myself off the roof and landing next to people grinning insanely like Jack Nicholas!Comment

You are kidding me right? You actually believe the developers made a point of putting a explosive barral up there to discourage rooftop camping? On one map... on one roof that isnt even that popular, opposed to the camp gib mainbase for example? :shakehead:Originally posted by sonicpixel

Not to discourage it. I see it as an affirmation that those high places are in-bounds and legal to use as you see fit. I don't like to perch, so I don't do it myself as I'm a ground-pounder. :salute:Originally posted by The 13th RaptorYou are kidding me right? It's probably just an aesthetics thing, they didn't put it up cause they expected rooftops, it's up there to add some variety to the tops of the towers.
Also anyone else think there should be a city map with rooftop spawns and more detailed roofs for roof to roof combat? That would be fun. Plus some armor on the streets to balance it out.Comment

You know what they say about a 'picture is worth a thousand words' and all that!
I love Wizrdwarts, "...it's up there to add some variety to the tops of the towers."
I think they should have used a baby-blue box instead of that hideous orange monstrosity... lolComment
