Seriously, if you dont prone you cant hit the target with half the ammo you fire, no matter how long you aim or wait or whatever.

I know i wouldnt have a problem killing divers if my bullets actually hit what i was aiming at.. The current situation forces people to go prone, even if they dont want to.
You'd be surprised how accurate the guns are when crouched. I do fine when crouched until I start going up against divers who get better accuracy than I will, they'll get it instantly, and they'll be a smaller profile. The only reason people prone is because it gives them the biggest benefit without any drawbacks. Once this change is implemented, you'll see that crouching and burst/single shots are plenty effective for taking people out. The last time I played BF2, which was admittedly quite a while ago, I made it a point not to prone every time I came up against someone and I did fine when not going up against a diver. Once divers are removed, you'll see that crouch isn't half bad.

On topic then, I'd be sceptical too if it wasn't for the fact that it works great in 2142. I don't think it will ruin BF2 in any way, some people will obviously not like it but I think it's a good change.
You should hear some of the drama queens over at the EAUK boards. They act like this change will be just short of the destruction of modern society. Many of them claim that insta-proning is the only reason that they're still playing BF2. But not only did it work in BF2142, it worked well in BF:V and BF1942 also, and even though those guns were more accurate overall than BF2/BF2142, I don't think anyone ever quit playing BF1942 because they couldn't flop around like a fish on a boat while shooting accurately. :p

Re: They're going to be adding an insta-prone accuracy penalty

I still support a large increase in accuracy overall. And maybe damage too. I seriously hate the deviation and weak weapons, and its the main reason i dont play BF2 that often anymore and stick to COD4 or RO when i feel like playing a serious shooter.

I gotta tell you though, i would love to come back for all the stuff BF has over those other games.

Imo BF42 was the best BF, and it was the power and accuracy of the weapons that are the main reason i say that. For some reason dice keeps nerfing the weapons worse and worse each new BF, look at heroes, you have to shoot people for 5 minutes straight, before they die...

          That's because there isn't one.

For the most part, the people against it are those who best learned to exploit the prone-dive, and their biggest argument is usually insulting those who disagree with "you don't have the skill to deal with it". They don't want to lose their tactical advantage, which is understandable, but their attitude sucks.

IMO, that it was changed in BF2142 shows that the dev team realized it wasn't working as intended. Why they took so long to even attempt a fix in BF2 is anybody's guess (probably a $$$ issue), but now that they are working on it, I think it indicates that they also recognize it's a problem in BF2 as well.

OMG!!! I JUST REALIZED I DONT WANT THIS CHANGE!!!

Do you know how many head shots I managed to get because everyone loves to insta-prone???? It is so gratifying owning the insta-prone noobs with my svd. Now I have to learn to get head shots while people are crouching (harder than you think).

Of course Im not being serious here. My point is, that only noobs insta-prone. Real experienced players learn to anticipate the insta-prone.

            Cant wait for this patch!!

Love it bring the 'ban hammer' down.

Im glad they have done something about the inst-prone 'leet' players after they voted down the prone time increase. It can only serve to make the game more fun.

Now all I want is the G36E nerfed. Make it a 600 rpm weapon like the rest of teh G36 series is in bf2. Easy. Now that would REALLY stir up a hornets nest :)

I actually disagree with you. Think about it the gun was used because of its inherent speed and accuracy before they changed the hit boxes to make them more accurate so now how insane is it going to be ?????

Sorry to go off topic

The only advantage the g36 had over other weapons was the accuracy, especially at distances. The assault class weapons are more powerful than the g36 but were no match when shooting 50meters and up. In a cqc situation the assualt class rifles would win hands down. Now that the hit boxes are fixed, distance shouldnt be as much of a problem as in the past.

                              1) What about the M16? Still weaker than the G36E.
                              2) They didn't fix the hitboxes. Many beta players are saying there's almost no noticable difference. They may have made them slightly better, but they're not 'fixed'.
                              3) The only problem with the G36E is that it was given to the medics. You want to balance the G36E and the game in general? Give medics either SMGs or carbines, give the G36E (or don't...wouldn't matter at that point) to the Assault class, and bam...instant class balance. Because medics have the same guns that Assault does is the real problem. If USMC players had to choose between armour and an M16/F2000/G3; or healing bags, shock paddles, and an MP5, what would they choose? At least at that point it would be a choice. With medics having ARs, there's almost no choice.

Thank God! Reading point 3 was extremely refreshing. I have long argued on other forums that the problem with the current setup is that Medic is taking the role of Assault, with the ability to heal/revive added on. I'm glad to see someone else feels that something needs to happen, all those flame attacks are worth it now.
