I'll still be rubbish because I haven't played Bf2 in years but it will indeed be refreshing to say the least.

Playing 2142 you could immediately tell a BF2 migrant because they belly flopped as soon as look at you. You would simply have to crouch and pop 2 bursts in their face.

A lot of people are going to be vexed by this God send of a fix! And I cannot stress the word 'fix' enough.
Yeah, there were quite a few times that happened to me as well. I'd look at the scoreboard, see the red "2" and think "Thought so. Where's your cheap tactic now?".

This is the King of Fixes for BF2.

Anything to make this game more noob-friendly I guess.

          Why is "conditioned reflex":
"If I see enemy, I hit "Z" and press fire"

considered to be "pro" move? It is just another neurological synapse created after a lot of hours spent playing BF2.

Pro players are those that can take out J10 with USMC planes, squad leader that plays as medics and allows their squad members to take a flag without evolving themselves in capturing flag and so on.

It's just another way for EA to limit the tools a good player can use. Every patch we see things getting taken out because omg teh noobs are getting slaughtered by the thousands. First it was c4 tossing, then dolphin diving, then squad bombing, etc. It's the same reason why the accuracy on guns is awful and made up to chance, why any retard can fly the planes and helis, and why whenever there is an outcry from noobs about "cheap tactics", EA comes to the rescue and changes it. They want these games to be more friendly to the average gamer (ie total ****ing moron). It's why the games in the BF series have gotten sequentially easier to play to the point of there being hardly any learning curve at all. EA caters to the average gamer, the average gamer who rather than learn the techniques people are using to beat him, would much rather ***** and complain until we're all playing with nerf pads and safety gear.

You can nerf any game into oblivion, there are already greifers posting about how to abuse crouch, I'd draw the line on the recent beta changes.

You cannot win against these fools.

Re: They're going to be adding an insta-prone accuracy penalty

BF was always about balancing the reality and arcade factor. If something is bothering players than something should be changed without changing the balance too much. MODs are there to fill the gaps that can occur but DICE and EA never supported MOD-ing community although BF2 did emerge from one of MODs: DesertCombat.

So if you wanna play more arcade-ish game go for COD or QuakeWars. If you wanna play something more close to real warfare conditions go for ARMA. BF was never “point-and-shoot” FPS like quake and such. Insta-prone accuracy is just that. And players are abusing it a lot.

I know, that is allowed, but so is jumping from a bridge or tall building, shooting yourself in a head or charging for something more that it is actually worth including nice profit margin.

Another problem with insta-prone are messed up hit-boxes which is a problem that was suffering even BF1942. So I really don’t see a problem with added insta-prone accuracy. If you are such a good player you will adopt new rules and use them for your benefit. Of course maybe it won’t be so effective as those scripts/macros/”Z” reflex but after some time you should get to same “professional” level. :salute:

There are lots of things that bother a large majority of players that don't affect the balance at all. Things like dolphin diving don't throw off the balance as all players can do it. Limiting dolphin diving just narrows the skill gap between those that can multi-task successfully and those that cannot. Limiting the tools of the player does not help balance things in the least. Also please realize you are talking about the most unbalanced game in the BF series, or even in FPSes for a long time. All the maps, vehicles, and weapons are so out of whack they are beyond fixing. The planes don't match up with each other, AA is garbage, many maps (almost all) give one team a huge upper hand. I would much rather DICE and EA actually address the real issues of balance in this game then make a minor tweak to appease the majority of nublets.

The entire reason people have to use insta-proning is because of the horrible accuracy in the first place. If the guns actually awarded those with decent accuracy you wouldn't have this problem. Look at 1942 and Desert Combat or BFV where the guns are considerably more accurate. They are by no means COD or Quake-style run and gun but they award a player for their aim rather than a random cone of fire like BF2. The entire reasons strategies like c4 tossing, noob tubing, or dolphin diving exist are because the guns are **** in the first place. People have realized this and looked to more reliable options.

It's not like it manipulates the hitboxes to make them invisible like say, insta-ducking behind a wall used to, all it does is switch it to the prone level hitbox, which is smaller. Dolphin diving is also considerable harder and less effective anyways since it's 2-3 nerfs before, plus it is extremely obvious where somebody is going to land if they decide to jump/prone.

The argument of scripts and macros is an invalid one. It is illegal to use scripts and macros to support dolphin diving. Just because the anti-cheat is so far inadequate for this game is no reason to take away another technique from the player.

Oh and any player on the "professional" level left this game long ago when it died competitively. Cheers.

Re: They're going to be adding an insta-prone accuracy penalty

"Limiting dolphin diving just narrows the skill gap between those that can multi-task successfully and those that cannot."

Multi-tasking would be watching the UAV, anticipating where enemy will go (end where your team mates are) after what you prone and get ready to kill enemies. Insta-prone is just a reflex. Support class should support and not act as assault class.

"Also please realize you are talking about the most unbalanced game in the BF series, or even in FPSes for a long time."

There are some balancing issues but I don’t find BF series to be that much unbalanced.

"All the maps, vehicles, and weapons are so out of whack they are beyond fixing."

I really find playing BF and driving all sorts of vehicles reasonably ok. BF was never intended to be warfare simulation.

                          "AA is garbage"

AA are effective if you know how to use it. There is no insta-prone action for that - sorry.

"The planes don't match up with each other" - so every side should have same plane???

"The entire reasons strategies like c4 tossing, noob tubing, or dolphin diving exist are because the guns are **** in the first place. People have realized this and looked to more reliable options."

No those strategies exist as easier ways to kill someone and get better rank (points). You can kill enemy even easier with crouch-fire tactics.

"The entire reason people have to use insta-proning is because of the horrible accuracy in the first place."

There are MODs that have these characteristics so ...

"it is extremely obvious where somebody is going to land if they decide to jump/prone."

I agree on this one but there is lag issue. By the time enemy realizes that you are in prone position you already killed him without a chance of enemy to fire one bullet. Very frustrating because it looks as you killed him while going into prone position.

"The argument of scripts and macros is an invalid one. It is illegal to use scripts and macros to support dolphin diving. "

It’s not illegal. G11/G15 keyboard from Logitech have those macro keys that can be scripted and those are not illegal.

"Just because the anti-cheat is so far inadequate for this game is no reason to take away another technique from the player."

It is obvious that PB is not perfect so DICE decided to disable few "cheats" and you find that inadequate?

For anyone still thinking that the 'nublets' are the ones that got instaprone patched out:

Sorry guys, instaprone and dolphin diving was never an intended feature of BF2 but a side affect that DICE Canada tried to patch out and now we are working to do. You'll either be happy with the change or not happy and find ways to change your play style to compensate.

As for the whole game being unbalanced, this was a small fix compared to the amount of work that would have to be done to fix the balance of the whole game. Bear in mind that there are only two people working on this patch and it's a game that's over four years old, so it's truly amazing they're even giving us another patch at all.
