that and the fact that its a real pain in the butt trying to get the chopper again (not to mention even alone) due to the mass of people waiting at the pad. So the next time you guys see me repairing 20m above the pad, know that im smiling as a fly off into the sunset. :p

I think the conclusion to all this chopper soloing saga is that we have pockets of minorities who are never going to be pleased all of the time.

I think the game makes it about as fair as it can get though. I do like the idea of doing tests for pilots & gunners and maybe when you pass these tests, then the pilot or gunner is actually a seperate kit that you can chose and play as nothing else?

      Just an idea!

Kits wont save the day. Licencing system will. This way, you know that the guy who takes the APC/Tank/Helo/Jet knows at least how to shoot, what to shoot and when to shoot.

Thats what I said. You take a test (Licence), and once you pass it, you unlock a gunner or pilot 'kit'. So if you have passed the test, you know that anyone trying to get into your chopper/Bomber has also passed a test.

If you don't take the test/Licence, then you are unable to enter a Chopper/Jet.

No doubt after a length of time a debate will start on how 'difficult' this test should be.

I got into a chopper tonight and was told to 'gtfo'. I said "fly...I can gun". He just rammed us into the deck without seeing what I could do.....twice!!!

It's guys like this that give soloers a bad name.

The licensing idea is fine, but it's paramount that we have multiple levels... otherwise, they'll make it so easy everyone's f*cking dog will pass.

Even if we only had three different levels, you'd still be able to differentiate between "barely passed", "passed" and "passed with flying colors": that's a lot better than "durrrr, I did this testing thingie dealie and because I was able to stay in the air, I'm a pilot now! keke@*!("

                Right.

                  Right.
Look on the bright side, they can stay in the air.

I remember when that used to be a bright side. That's how dated I am...

Yes, S&D is my favourite game type.

It would certainly weaken the air vehicles though, do you not think?

You can weaken the air vehicles using far better means than forcing it to land. Ever tried to fly the jet with SRAWs around you? Youre forcing the jet to get killed, not to land.

And I doubt it very much, that you would play a 64 player game with no respawns, ever seen how many people ***** about that lone sniper in the end of the round? Multiply that.

Yeah it would take some time, a different game type would be need, or the ability to only create it for smaller maps.

I believe in making the jets/helicopters land to arm/repair, mainly because they are too powerful in being able to skip past the airfield to do so and it's hideously unrealistic.

Why? It's not like anything new has been said on this topic during the last few weeks. It's the same boring people repeating the same boring "arguments" over and over again, trying to prove someting that nobody even cares about. I don't even know why this soloing threads are still alive. Actually I do know - because the admins are persistently refusing to do their job and close them.

Not only smaller maps, but maps that, in their architecture, would make sense.

I believe in making the jets/helicopters land to arm/repair, mainly because they are too powerful in being able to skip past the airfield to do so and it's hideously unrealistic.
Aslong as the carriers and airfields are in the reach of a single SRAW soldier who can take out a jet from across the map, this idea is horrible and gives away your inexperience in the air aspect of the game. Currently, taking BF2 current state into account, you can only decrease the reload speed of certain munitions (one pass nets 100 rounds of cannon ammo, 2 missiles and one bomb).

But in my opinion the best changes would be

                              A) Decrease bomb splash damage radius, while keeping the damage the same
                              B) Eliminate cannon splash damage to upmost minimum making it a contact weapon
                              C) Eliminate HUD markers for small vehicles and sites, aswell as Mobile STA
                              D) Increase cannon cone of fire so precision shooting wouldnt be possible, or at least create a bullet drop after a certain ammount of distance (more than it is now)
                              E) Increase damage rate the STA missiles dish out to 2 shot kills
                              F) Decrease ATS HUD distance

These changes are all codable in less than 15 minutes and would make jets depends on MORE skill while giving infantry more chances of survival.

Chris, in PR you have to land to rearm a jet. So wouldnt that work in BF2?
