You see that sh*t a lot in several servers. "Clanmates" stack up the teams and kick anyone providing competition: soloing is usually against the rules, as a talented player could threaten their stacked "balance".

Its snipers job to keep the STA sites from being manned, however, there are as many dedicated snipers as there are dedicated chopper pilots. As such, a pilot usually cannot rely on anyone but himself. STA has a 375 metre coverage in game. A chopper venturing into that airspace is as good as dead. So you might say that a pilot can use his rockets to take care of armor, but practical life (in games terms) will tell you that if a pilot relies on FFARs, hes dead.

      Real life teamwork and choppers
Teamworks importance is universal. You group up to be more successful and stay safer. Just like wolves do, they live in packs because its safe. They hunt in packs because it brings better results. However, if teamwork hinders a players perfomance and becomes not fun, then teamwork is a useless burden.

As for real life choppers. Both weapons officer and pilot share each others function so that if the pilot gets wounded, the chopper wont go down.

its not a bad idea,i do it all the time,i pass on my knowledge of sniping regularly and its dos not bother me,in fact it get more respect than me telling them to go play sp and that.
Do you log into a server and start doing it until you leave the server? No, you play your game. But a pilot has to concentrate his whole time to teaching someone because unless he teaches the copilot, he cannot perform well. In terms of BF2, if youre not performing well, youre waiting for a respawn. Some of the people actually play for fun and dont have all day. The quick solution is to ditch the gunner, have your quick round and leave the game.

2nd bold quote= till you get you're heli badge then you know you have had you fair share of the heli.

      3rd bold quote. elaborate?
Thats a very interesting approach. Would you quit sniping because you got your Expert sniper badge? That was a rhetorical question.

As for elaboration. As a sniper, you do not rely on anyone nor does anyone rely on you. If BF2 came up with a spotter system, in which your success as a sniper would directly be influenced by your spotter, youd be pissed and mad about people not perfoming up to par with you.

does that mean dice thinks the hotel glitch and jalabad rock glitch is technically not a exploit :)
Thats a very good point. But DICE did some changes to the chopper, and it was obvious that seatswitching itsself is not an exploit, otherwise they would have patched it out.

thats a little harsh bashing some guys stats, you have a2.1kdr

well i have a 3.47kdr so i must be better than you then.
By far, Im not denying it. But then again, I am not teaching you how to play your game either, am I? :)

      1.you never have to type

2.using ts you can communicate with friends that are in different squads

3.the best commanders always use viop

4.you can enjoy the game and have some fun with ****z n giggles instead of being 100%serious and focused every time you play the game.

5.oh nowz are uav is destroyed, and our arty, and the commanders scan,
but you can never destroy our viop!!
Well, consider this. Typing or communcation isnt necessary at all. If you log in for a quick frag, the last thing you need to concentrate on is yelling into mic or typing up lots of BS. You just play. It doesnt make your game easier nor harder, more or less fun. And VOIP nor TS dont necessarily create a warm and fuzzy environment. We take the game as seriously as our personality lets us. VOIP or not, its not a factor.

i enjoy you're views chris so dont take mine as a me having a go..im trying to explain my views as clear as i can here!!
      Youre cool. Mutual respect.

im not up to terms with what a STA is ,if you mean the stationary AA then yes they can be a chopper's night mare but a good 2 man has the chain gun that can dispense them quite fast, mobile AA is alot harder i admit, but still relatively weak if the hydra's hit but it would be better for a tv shot on them.

the point you make about /dice not changing the seat switching thing due to itself not being a exploit,

i thought that they did try to get rid of seat switching by making the chopper lose power faster than it did previous, also they changed the range of the tv(not sure if that was for the soloer using mind u)

but i don't think /dice could make it possible to not seat switch, this would be some hard coding don't you think?

something like when u press e to get in you have to press another button to get in the 2nd seat or something..if that makes sense,im sure it would be most difficult to do something in a patch thats stop seat switching in mid air.

p.s mutual respect to you also:salute:

Yes, STA = Surface to air. :)

EDIT: Also, to eliminate seat-switching Dice could make the helo's drop as soon as the pilots seat is vacated, I'm sure that's not hard-coded...

Re: Chopper soloing: a problem or an art?

All I see is a bunch of *** marks, anyone care to translate?

Verzili. In pure mathematical terms Hydras can make quick work of MSTA, however thing about it, who has more of a chance of survival at 375 metre distance. Mobile STA with its 1 second lock time and autoguided weapons, or you with 8 Hydras that you need to lead at such a huge distance?

TV missile comes into play, TV missile is used to clean up STA, MSTAs covering the area which the chopper is cleaning at the given moment. TV missiles give the chopper a safe distance to operate from, which means that the player utilises the choppers most effective weapon while keeping himself at maximum safety. While you can use the cannon to clean it up, you cant use the cannon at 450 m distance, which is TV missiles maximum range.

I dont think DICE nerfed the range of the TV missile against soloers, but against choppers in general.

Skaggys proposal is the most reliable and most working one to eliminate, or at least severely hinder soloing. Seatswitching is necessary for the gunner to stay alive after the pilot gets killed, it has to stay. Soloing can be prevented from happening using other means. However, would that be practical? Its up to debate.

Besides, DICE will not patch BF2 again.

They stopped soloing in PR, so why cant DICE do it? Just a simple 30 sec engine startup time works wonders. If anyone tryes to switch seats in PR, he will fall to the ground like a rock after 10+ sec. Not 100 realistic but now ppl use chopters just how they are intender to.

PS. Chris i will reply to your post later, coz i dont really wanna sit here and type all night.

Another PS. Isnt surface-to-air missiles being calles SAM's and not STA's anyway?

Re: Chopper soloing: a problem or an art?

Well, I didn't bother to go through 16 pages of the same stuff I've been reading for a loooong while... But the thing is, I am all for having a heli crew as long as both members know what the F they are doing. I just checked my average KDR in choppers this 3 past days (around 25:1) after like 10 days not playing BF and that's what the chopper has to be, a efficient killing machine.

It doesn't matter if the gunner sucks or the pilot blows; if you have one impaired player in the helicopter it is not going to function properly, thus it is a total waste of time and a major hindrance for the team. That's not teamwork. That's retarded.

My pilot has superb accuracy with FFARs. If I somehow I can't kill a ground target with the TV (miss/reloading/out of ammo), he kills them 95% of the times, even from afar, and his situational awareness is equally impressive. BUT if he does pick a noob gunner, he can't perform half as good, and I - soloing - can take him down, because no matter how good you are with the rockets they are no match to the TV-M.

I find it really silly that people arguing against soloing don't know jack**** about helicopters as their craptastic stats show. Let's put it this way: if you have less than... Say... 100 hours in helos and/or less than 2:1 KDR SHUT THE F UP please.

Many times I`ve seen choppers hunting tanks, APCs and other choppers while that one armor prick is raping infantry like no tomorrow. That`s why I think all armor, heli, jet whores are c*nts.
