They wouldn't be if everyone who plays assault would figure out their guns shoot bullets and not just nades.
Ak> L8 close and med range, L8>AK long range.
M16>G36e close med and long range due to the fact that E loses power over distance.
Maybe but first of all, the medics have access to those exact same weapons so if they really are better then the medics will have them too, and second, the medics can heal themselves. That makes the medic class overall better than assault.
Single shot, medium-long range, aim for the head. That's the key to doing well with the L85. It is truly a great gun, but more than any other weapon you have to use it's advantages of good scope and single shot accuracy, otherwise you won't hit anything. If you are going to be up close a lot of the time, it's best to choose another gun.
The reason that some people hate it is they try to use it like a g36e or an ak, and then complain that they can never hit anything...
It's all down to style of play, like every gun in this game you have to play to the strengths of the weapon your useing. If you use the L85 in the right way it's an awesome weapon.

Wow its funny how some people thinks it's really accurate and some people think it isn't.
Probably because people naturally play a certain way and if you pick up the L85 and it suites your style of play your gonna love it, if you play a different way (more gun hoe) your gonna hate it.
IMHO the L85 is perfectly balanced the way it is, as it is its a mini sniper rifle at long range and it has full auto (full auto is still great it just takes practise to use it right). If you tightened up the cone of deviation though it would make it way overpowered because you could out snipe a sniper with it and rule in cqb. And if you did that the L85 plus the medic kit would mean there would be no need for any other class in the game well except for maybe AT .
I don't like the L85A1 it's just that I experience a lot of hit box errors with that gun. Even prone, scoped and in single shot I sometimes need a whole clip and don't kill a nonmoving enemy. That is not acceptable. I try it sometimes to see if it is just me being noobish...
But: No, it's just this gun!
I can use any other gun quite well but I don't seem to get kills with the L85A1.
I prefer the AK-101, the AK-47 and the G36E being Medic
Recently the l85a1 has been my favorite choice. It's the most powerful of all the medic guns, so all you gotta do is fire 3 shots and you have a kill 90% of the time.

in an insane CQC fight the medic that tried to heal himself with an ak101 (or any gun for that matter) firing at him 2m away...isnt going to last long, in a medium long range fight...same thing,
now in a fight where both sides have COVER then you can use the ehal ability to great effect but youll have to heal often due to light armor but the assault class has the grenade launcher which i use often against entrenched enemies by firing on the ground just next to their cover the splash damage will kill them or at least blurr their vision.
