I have many problems as well. New OS build and fresh BF2 install. patch to 1.4 now getting CTD's again on verifying client data. Manually updated PB still getting them. I'm also getting the message" you have been killed by so&so" But I am still alive and well. It's not registering on my end that its a kill but I got almost 8 kill messages without actually dying one night in jalalabad.Also been having the squad problem where I cannot join or leave a squad. Red/Blue name glitch still there. soldiers without kits still running around. AT rockets still fly through vehicles. Bad lag on a server where my ping is below 20. Watched a commander drop 3 vehicles at once last night multiple times. Frames have still been okay though. Still love the new map. Wished they would have done a bit more tidying up if this is going to be the last patch.

Well servers take longer to load up and I BF2 ctd, but that mite just mean my computer is to old.

having a couple serious issues since the 1.4 patch

- somehow parts of the map are all black and the top of helos look like large rectangles, like there is no transparency or something. i thought this was extremely weird and thought maybe my gpu was having issues, but a buddy of mine confirmed he to had seen the problem - i am running a x1800xt(tried both cats 6.7 and 6.8) and he is running a 7900gtx, both machines run 2GB of ram and i am running my resolution at 1280x1024 all high w/ dynamic light and shadows off 6AA and he runs 1280x720 all high, both run x2s - 3800 & 4400 (we both have more than enough cpu/gpu/ram to run these resolutions easily with our machines). heat is not an issue with either machine and they are blown out often. my rig i know for sure is at least 12hrs stable in memtest, prime95, 3dmark looping and other benchmarking software that stresses items. i have even underclocked and still have the same results. also, at the same time this happens the fps drops to ~1-2 at most. i have tried to take a screen shot of it and they just turn up all black or i get message that says i am out of memory - but when i look at the performance tab of the task manager it shows my max ram usage ~ 1.5-1.7GB

- crashing to desktop a lot. with 1.3 i would rarely ctd, now if i can go 2rnds without a ctd i am suprised.

- after a round, when the stats page shows up that shows all the scores, i get a screen with a dark grey background and little black spots, where the text should be.

- no tone when get locked in a helo or jet, you just blow up. this has been reported by buddies i game with, not a isolated incident

on a positive note, the levels seem to load faster and i really like the new map - some good fighting on that one :)

Okay, for some reason now everytime I try to open BF2, it opens the black screen before it does the DICE thing before the intro movie than closes at the black screen. What is going on? what do I do!? *cry*

Shortly after installing 1.4, BF2 began freezing. Freezes right after or at the end of the map loading screen when joining multiplayer servers. Reinstalled and worked fine with original version and 1.3. Started freezing again after reinstalling 1.4. Can play singleplayer and host my own servers with no problems. Manually updated punkbuster, didn't solve it.

I downloaded both the incremental 1.3->1.4 and full 1.4 and when I run the installers, I can select the language but after about 5-10 seconds the program just closes itself?!

I havent got any mounting programs installed eg daemon tools or alcohol....

advice?

i have that problem when i try 2 re-install the game from dvd....and it happens with the special forces install also

dunno if its jsut me.. but all the servers have a ping of 2000 and i cant refresh it by clicking on it.

Anyone else getting a high ping reading, even on you favourates.
Before 1.4 install they were in the 40 - 90, and now 200+.
But when you load, its fine.

Yeh my ping has gone sky high too after installing 1.4 and my fps have gone from 60-70 to 10-15.Any suggestions???

My game ran fine with 1.3 besides the ocasional CTD. Now with 1.4 pings are through the roof and the lag makes the game unplayable. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling entire game and patches. When I log in a sever and play my guy stutters around and is not smooth at all. It is not my system specs it is the 1.4 patch as everything was working fine a few days ago. Also the server list loads REALLY slow with all servers showing a ping of 1000+ until I click on them and it shows the real ping of the usual 90-120.

i installed the 1.4 FULL last night, went to work this morning, and when i came home, i found my ping to have jumped in all servers, and i was wondering if this has happened to anyone else???? i used to frequent between 30 and 80, but now im averageing 150-200.... THIS IS RETARDED!!!!!!!!!! i cant play like this, and i was wondering if anyone else could help!!? please.......

Dear oh dear...before we start mixing apples and oranges here...It just so happens there's been regional overload on the web. The traffic that's increased over the past few years has outstripped a rather antiquated "web" of servers. Chicago, Atlanta, and the Miami area have especially been hit hard over the past two to three weeks...going on a month now. It's especially bad during peak traffic hours. Comcast has been fingered in tech-journals, for selling far more customer plans than they have server capacity to handle, as well. They're expected to make some sort of admission to this publicly, but in-house, amid the industry, they've already confessed to the need of a six-(more)-month timeframe to buy hardware to handle what traffic they have. This was all happening just before and as the patch was released. So, ping related problems could just be this, rather than that.

I applied the full patch over my original install, was getting BF2 memory errors and game would not start.
So, deleted BF2 game folder contents.
Re-installed to original folder.
Booted XP into safe mode, then applied the 1.4 patch.
Rebooted.
BF2 works fine now. Have not seen any server crashes while playing on UK Multiplay servers.

*Note*
I have had to apply all previous patches using safe mode.
