It's ok, it's a nice change for a while. I can't see myself playing it very often, Special Forces has the best balance between infantry and vehicles, while remaining very fun.

I'd of preferred CTF, but we all knew it was never going to happen from day one.

I will be giving this a good look soon. BUT, I ran our clan server as IO (unranked) back around patch 1.22 with the standard maps. We did allow transport vehicles (buggies, hmmvs, vodnick and both transport choppers) but if you got caught using the mgs mounted on any vehicle, you were kicked. We really had some great battles and it was amazing how fast teamwork evolved to counter better defended flags. Flanking, multi squad attacks and decoy tactics popped up everywhere.

Granted, this was on our clan server, but we had many a public players join in as well. Once folks saw how much fun it was to work as a team, things just fell into place. The big objective was for your side to win the round and NOT for YOU to amass points for yourself.

This IO mode MAY not work well with Ranked servers, but on unranked, I know it is golden!

Desert Conflict has an awesome CTF mod out right now. They have put out patches so you can play with 1.4 running. Give them a try. It is a BLAST !!!

I finally played IO last night, and i was impressed.....i noticed ppl sticking together in squads.....on both teams...otherwise you are outnumbered if you encounter enemy.....i think this works out perfect.....ppl sticking together now, standing no chance in hell alone...

Kills should only give you 1 point ala 2142.

People often get up in to the hundreds in IO whereas if the above was implemented, they'll be getting more normalish scores.

That's if it's intended to stay ranked.

            Here's my thoughts:

And I'm going to keep what I "expected" or "wanted" out of IO out of this.
I played a few rounds of Jalalabad, so since I haven't played with it alot, i'm not going to take part in the poll.

My experience in IO was that the MEC all spawned at the first flag and quickly took sniper positions on the hill and bombed out building/APC towards the USMC's uncap. From there it was a volley of sniper bullets mixed in with medic revives. Though I did well in points, the game was not enjoyable at all! I did not see the Jalalabad city even once during those few rounds I played. It was exactly as PW and Harmor had predicted. THere is nothing to break the stalemate until one guy goes rambo to the first flag and gets killed as he's nearly neutralized it, causing it to all cycle back to the beginning.

Ive tried to get it so many times pre 1.4 but always missed a few extra heals, had already given up on this one and thought that only people who padded for it got it. But I got it after 1 try on infantry only... it was extremely funny, almost the whole team was just hiding behind that little rock, everyone healing and resupplying.. one of the funniest bf2 moments i've encountered:laugh:

I played IO for a little while last night on a karkand server. I seriously felt like I was cheating without having vehicles to watch out for. It is points galore. While it was fun to a point. It felt wrong. I am not sure if I will be playing on those servers much. I think I prefer the challenges of having to hide from tanks and apcs

                  Re: IO and Your Thoughts...

Please stop saying that IO some how requires more teamwork or encourages it because it doesn't. All IO does is encourage players to spawn as nothing but medics.

A squad in my opinion is a group of players with kits that compliment each other and allow them to deal with ANY situation on the Battlefield. Like a self contained battle unit. On IO you have no need for that squad or any variety of kits. On a regular server I like to have 1-2 AT in my squad, 1 support and 1-3 medics. That gives us a great combination that allows us to deal with any threat on the Battlefield. On an IO server the only class that you need is sadly - the medic. When you only need one class to deal with essentially every threat and situation the game has to offer you've got what is commonly referred to as QUAKE.

Then the greater teamwork element is absolutely gone in IO. No need to hop in that TOW when a tank rolls up. No need to hop in the S2A when a plane or helicopter passes overhead. No need to lay down a defensive mine field to stop the advance of enemy armor. No need to have friendly AT soldiers to destroy enemy armor or approaching transport vehicles. No need to have Spec-Ops to infiltrate the enemy base and destroy artillery. No need to have friendly engineers to repair vehicles and commander assets (because they don't exist!).

IO mode essentially strips all of the variety and teamwork elements from Battlefield 2 and leaves players with a simple basic framework of a game that involves spawning as a medic/support. Chucking grenade, spamming the shock paddles every which way... rinse repeat till you have 150 points and the round ends with zero flag captures.

The game was/is much more fast paced with vehicles too and as a result it actually requires a team to often time spread out and defend various flags that vehicles can and will rush for to get an early cap.

Bottom line is it is absolutely an undisputable fact that IO mode requires a fraction of the teamwork required in a real unneutered game. All IO mode is good for is getting lots of cheap and easy points and for all the players playing IO mode for this reason (ie all of them) I in a way feel sorry for them. Everyone knows IO mode is one big sham and as far as I'm concerned anyone who plays IO is just a sad little newbie stat padder. Oh that's nice you got a 4:1 infantry KDR and 6SPM... too bad it doesn't mean a damn thing because you got it in easy mode.

I don't mean to flame you or something but it's the same and the same all over.. I think everyone now knows you do not like infantry only but that's just one opinion other people do like it.

I played Jalalabad and Karkand. Jalalabad and a few of the Karkand rounds were fun. Most of the time when I was on Karkand all that happened was the MEC totally raped the two forward US Spawns. They would have a few guys throwing nades and a few guys just in the spawns waiting for us to spawn.

My experience was the opposite (so far). Was on a 32 player IO Jalalabad map and had great running street battles with flags changing hands ofen. Didnt seen any more medics or snipers than usual. The only ones I didnt see was AT or Eng. (should have allowed transports IMO).

Points did seem higher than normal but not outrageous. All in all, I found it a nice change of pace, though it's not something I'd play all the time. Nice for a change after a few maps of getting wasted by tanks/planes tho :)

(fwiw...I usually play infantry - assault, specops, sniper are my top 3 kits and Wake 2007 is one of my favorite maps)

I played on a 32man Karkand Map and all three rounds the US did not capture a flag and lost the round...I don't miss armor whores but they should have kept Hummers and VOdnicks on the maps...It would not have changed IO that much and would have caused there to be more diversity in the kits....The dumbest thing I saw however while playing was someone being an Engie and putting down mines.

KoMeT could you stop posting these worthless posts complaining about how long my posts are. Nobody is forcing you to read them.

I know you did read it though (my long post) and I also know you're probably an infantry only mode point whore. So in that respect I'm glad that I've exposed how lame your mode of choice is and I hope it cuts deep so every time you log in and play every game is so shallow and unrewarding. Every second you spend hiding in an IO server makes you weaker and weaker. You'll never be able to come back to a real game because if and when you ever do you'll get dominated by the most skilled infantry and dominated by the artillery/vehicles you decided to run away from.

Believe me when I say my posts have absolutely nothing to do with me being a vehicle whore either because fact is I have more time as infantry than in any vehicle. Luckily my favorite server remains unchanged because thankfully the admins understand how cheap, shallow and just plain sad IO mode is and won't switch it over. Thank god for that.

Please go sit in your cockpit and sulk.

The ONLY kit affected but IO is the AT. Every other kit plays a vital role. If you can't see that then you are truly limited in your scope as a player in this game.

You and Lazza seem to crow about the "points" issue more than anyone in these forums. IO is a game mode and you don't have to play it. If you have had your feelings hurt because ground pounders can now rack up points like you flyboys, well, you will just have to put your big boy britches on and buck up.

The stat padders will get caught and wiped. Quit grousing about IO and move on or move out.

Actually I've seen more teamwork in IO than in most (not all) vanilla pubs. Of course the team must consist of more kits than just medics, but you got to admit that even a team of medics is a good start compared to the lonewolving that has lately become more common in the full game. There are scuads but once you join then most are scattered around the map.

Sure IO might encourage people to be medics but I guess some are unencouragable and I've even seen AT having fun in IO, not talking about assault and spec ops.

Only arty has been removed, UAV and Scan still exist. While being a commander I find UAV and Scan much more useful than arty has ever been.

You are right here however the encounters are more intense and are not disrupted by air assets or armor.
