Re: Petition keep squad hopping in Battlefield 2

Not that anyone will actually read this what with like 10 million posts already, but I dont much care for squad hopping personally. I do it of course, but thats to stay competetive when everyone else is doing it.

Sorry Wargimp, I cant sign up.

Hmm thats true in some respects but thats proberly true for all petitions in general like 90+% of all petitions hardly ever work but they do occassionally.

Well does a minium of 8 years count and i can honestly say as the patches have gone by there has been many a person that has left bf2 and gone back to other games or gone to new ones. As i stated before im hoping to be playing this game for years (untill bf3 comes out) are you planing on playing this game for that length of time ??.

There's more people than that signed up at a certain well known cheat site. It's also less than 19% of the 31540 registered users at this site alone.

Kinda puts a bit of a damper on things, eh?

That said, I support making it an option. It makes sence. Give it to people both ways and you'll make more happy. However, it's Dice's baby and their call. If they feel removing the feature entirely is better for their game, I'm not going to whine about it.

And 18zulukiller, on the issue of forum behaviour... No one cares how you talk in real life. There are rules here that you are expected to follow. You should know that working around the word filter is a no-no and from previous posts I've seen you make, you are simply better than that. Clean it up a bit, please.

But You see that's not what I'm talking about.
The Spawning on your SL I'm conceding was the intended implemented feature.
The Current state of squad-hopping which allows a whole team to be able to Spawn to the location of a given SL in a matter of seconds is what I'm saying is the "unintended" oversight of the SL Spawn feature.
                It is now being corrected.

Not exactly accurate. While I personally thing the game would be better off without squad hopping, I do support it being an option. Obviously there are some good reasons for allowing it to remain and there's a good chuck of the player base that passionatly support it.

I can see both sides of the argument.

I won't sign the petition because I don't like the wording.
Call me picky, but I won't put my name to something so poorly writen and outright insulting to the developers.

Those numbers were just ment to give a little perspective on this alledged majority. There are 31540 people signed up at this single community site. There's a little more than 5000 signatures on the petition gathered from just about every community site across the world. So even without considering the casual players who don't sign up at forums 'n stuff (whom I suspect are/would be most in favor of removing squad hopping), we're talking about a small minority, not a vast majority, who are strongly opposed to removing the feature.

Although I'm passionately opposed to squad Hopping as I said before, I use it. Usually only in the case of Rape Island where by the time you manage to log on in the first round there is already a tank sitting on the beach taking pot shots at you.

A lot of people are making a good point though, squad hopping really doesn't matter all that much unless you get rid of spawning off the squad leader entirely... And well, even with as much as I gripe about realism, that would just suck. But I'm still not going to sign some silly petition.

For someone that likes rational agruments, using the number of "active" accounts, and people signed up on this site without actual facts is silly.

How many of those active accounts at gamespy are really active? I know there's a TON of them that made accounts and never logged into a ranked server, seriously, if you check populated in your server filters the list goes from 5000 to just over 3000. And how many of the 30,000 community here have eevn posted in teh last six months? How many of the players online even bother visiting ANY forums what so ever. Gamespy reported what was it? a 50,000 active user weekend not too long ago, so over 10% of those are in favor of keeping it, how many don't even know what it is, and how many just don't give a damn?

You can't rebute a generalization, with another generalization.

And how is that going to be any different i could be in a squad that gets to a flag i can then leave the squad make another squad and invite 6 people to that squad they then spawn on me next chance they get. All your doing is slightly slowing the game down by removing squad hopping your still going to get entire teams TELEPORTING to the other side of the map s you put it.

Well were upto 6006 people not bad in 5 hours over 100 people have signed the petition.

And that's part of the problem with the current state of BF2.
The Stats system has made everyone a Point-whoring/Stat-Padding moron.
There's no teamwork in pub play anymore because everyones out for them selves.
Hopefully this will reinforce the idea of teamwork.

                          Who's the pompous one now??
You need to get a clue.

Stat's are not new to the Battlefield series of games. Back when I played Desert Combat, many different servers kept their own stats for "public" play. Even then players were playing for stats whether it be for bragging rights or for personal gain. The only difference is then it was server based and now it's global based.

If you don't like the way people are putting stats ahead of teamplay there are plenty of unranked servers for you to get your fill of team first.

I know, I know. It wasn't a comment ment to be taken litterally.
                            Just a bit of perspective.
The more interesing figure, IMHO, is the >1.5% of the total player base. I gadged my estimate of the active player base by looking at the rankings on BF2player.com for my roomate's account and looking for his worst postion. He's sub 400 000th for rifles. Yeah, he's perty crap, but does make enough kills with 'em so he should float above the non-active account base.

If you've got a better way of estimating the number of active players (including casual types that may only play once or twice a week), I'd love to hear it.

I'm not calling my figure a hard fact... but it is an indicator that shouldn't be ignored. If that petition can get as many as 40 000 sigs (10% of the esitmated player base), THEN it will be significant and likely to be taken seriously by EA. Got a long way to go, tho.

Yet only 45 different people against squad hopping, in a 20 page topic, on the largest Battlefield2 site is what's usually taken into account by EA and Dice when they change something for those 400,000 people?

The other 399,955 players don't seem to care about the issue, so why change it?

Just because a few people complain about an issue on the Biggest BF2 fourum there is, does't mean it should be changed. That is what most people are argueing about! Seems like you think everyone has the same strong opinion you have about squadhopping. If that was the case, i'm sure a lot more would be complaining on these forums : )

Not at all. I have my own opinion on the issue and I favor it, of cource. I am willing to consider other's conflicting opinions as being valid, tho.

I don't think this has been done in reaction to any complaints. I believe it has been done by Dice because that's how they wanted the game to be played in the first place. We all know that BF2 was pushed out the door too soon and they've had to do a lot of work to get it to the level that they wanted it. Other issues have been of higher priority and needed adressing first. Now that they feel things have settled down a bit, they are looking to "cource correct" other parts of gameplay to bring it in-line with their original vision.

That's pure speculation, but it fits.

Reguardless, I'm a pro-choice sorta guy. I'd rather see it as an option than the standard or removed completely.
The fact still remains that it's going to take a hella lot more signatures on that petition before it becomes significant. Anything less than 10% is usually ignored out of hand.
