Valve and Other PC Publishers Fined by EU Commission

The issue revolves around the companies "geo-blocking" various games.

The European Commission has fined Valve and five publishers a combined total of €7.8 million for a breaching of antitrust rules. The other publishers in question include Bandai Namco, Capcom, Focus Home Interactive, Koch Media, and ZeniMax. Valve's portion of the fine is merely €1.6 million while the rest of the €7.8 million is split up unevenly between the five publishers. The degree to which the...

Phil Spencer Again Confirms Microsoft's Commitment to Steam Releases

If it's coming to PC, it's coming to Steam.

Gamereactor recently had a chat with Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer. During their lengthy interview, which I suggest you check out for yourself, the two talked about Microsoft's first-party offerings coming to non-Xbox console platforms. As you may expect, this includes the PC platform, where Microsoft has been doing really well these past couple of years with a renewed effort to embrace PC gaming.

    Recently, Microsoft decided that...

Zenimax Forces Indie Studio to Change Name of Game

Prey for the Gods was a game that was in development by a three-man Indie studio called No Matter Studios. Prey is an upcoming game from Bethesda. Zenimax, Bethesda's parent company, didn't like that another game had "Prey" in the title and decided to seek legal action against the Indie studio.

The legal battle between Zenimax and Oculus is just the gift that keeps on giving. Now, John Carmack is suing Zenimax for $22 million.

Carmack says that the amount, which is actually in excess of $22.5 million, is the remainder of what he was owed from Zenimax's acquisition of id Software back in 2009. He says that Zenimax didn't pay it because of "sour grapes" over the ongoing legal disputes between them and Oculus.

Jury Awards Half a Billion Dollars to ZeniMax in Lawsuit Against Oculus

Earlier today in Dallas, a jury awarded half a billion dollars to ZeniMax after finding out that Oculus co-founder, Palmer Luckey, failed to adhere to a non-disclosure agreement he had signed. This amount includes $50 million that Luckey himself has to pay to ZeniMax plus another $150 million from the other Oculus co-founder, Brendan Iribe. The main point of this case came back as a bit of a win for Oculus. ZeniMax had claimed that that Oculus stole trade secrets from ZeniMax, which the jury di...
