One thing I would request in terms of features for Steam would be a "non-retard" mode which gives you a better idea of what's going on... the problem with increasing automation is that you'll sit waiting while not knowing what the hell is going on and conclude that nothing's going on at all since you can't see anything changing. Some sort of optional terminal window would be nice so that we can have some idea of th eproblems going on, even if it's 500 lines of "Server busy retry again in 5 seconds" or "now downloading at 1 bit per second". Currently, many people will sit waiting for their download and assume it's "frozen," kill the download, and end up having to re-download everything, which only makes the problem worse.Comment

I suggest u do what i am gaing to do. I am conviced now that this is simply caused by high traffic, so just be patient and wait till the message stop happening, or download the large patch if that happens first. Just be patient and with a day or 2 u will have CS.Comment

my steam was fu**ed for a long time too, freezing and ctrl-alt-deletin but u just have to WALK AWAY from the comp and eventually it will start working once some of the network has calmed down, i just left mine and stop fiddlin with it for an hour or so and it started working
NOTE---- IF U GET STUCK ON THE PREPARING TO PLAY SCREEN.... JUST LEAVE UR GAME ALONE, DONT TOUCH IT LET IT STAY ON THAT SCREEN AND IT WIL EVENTUALLY GO TO THE UPDATIN SCREEN WHICH LEADS TO PLAYIN THE GAMEComment

I've got the same problem too, shurcool, and i'm sure everyone has that problem too..... just have to wait until less people downloads it... meanwhile, just play LAN game with bots on 1.5.... HECK MAN, THE HELL WAS VALVE THINKIN!?!?!?!Comment

the best way to solve all ur shit is to just start steam, leave it on the games window and just go somewhere for a couple hours, sometime durin that time period it will do somethin thats all i didComment
