I think this is happening because, aside from bad ping, now the dead bodies stay until the end of the round which translates into more frames per second which in turn translates into lag as more information has to be sent to your computer and then rendered by your graphics card.

Unfortunately, this will become an issue for those with low-end computers and systems (graphic cards, RAM) because now it really IS an issue of rendering vs. previous versions where it was merely just gameplay and internet connections.

And also, this might start to affect 56k users in the final release as well, although, I'm not sure how much as I never play any games on a dial-up for performance issues.
There should be no extra information to be sent to your computer, so there won't be an increase in network lag due to this issue.

The will be an increase in what gets rendered by your PC, but most players are surely playing with a Voodoo3/TNT2 or better so it shouldn't be an issue for them.

Pity the poor fools still playing in software though... ;-P

      Thanks for clearing that up.

I wasn't sure if the new info - the dead bodies - would generate any increased data being sent back and forth (I just assumed it would bassed on how multiplayer games work).

In addition, I also agree with you that because the price of "high end" equipment (broadband, video cards, RAM, CPUs) is coming down, people should be using/playing CS with well ABOVE the minimum system requirements since most recent games require a lot more than the HL engine does to run.

      Thanks :-)

          CS 1.4 = teh win

And if you whine about it that you are going to quit the game now, fine go away. And playing on the Beta servers is now cool i even see people rescuing hostages, the new hostage AI is much better Gj ValVE, Gooseman, Cliffe and the mappers because the new maps are also very cool

Well I have two sides to this argument. a) CS 1.4 is actually a class game. Everything they changed makes it alot better (bar steam)

            b) It looks like the end of my CS days Not that I want to leave, but I am on a lowly computer, and to be honest its just unplayable now. I'm getting pings of 200+ on my cable modem, 15 minute load up times, and choking every 4 mins. I see no point any more of waiting about 20 mins to load up a game that is gonna lag out after about 15 mins [maximum]. Unfortunately it looks like the end of CS for those with crap computers or those with crap connection.

            I enjoyed my stay....

Right, now that I think I got this all straight in my head, I'd thought I would share it and you can tell me if I'm right or wrong.

When you get Steam, the installer, you install Steam and set up a cache. To use steam you need a special offer key, which is just a key generated from your email address, allowing you to use steam. Why have a key? Because later on Valve are probably gonna start charging for Steam use no doubt. So they need to limit use, thus the login.

Once you got Steam on the computer and you are logged in, and have selected CS you are ready to go.

Now, I have not got Steam, so I am building up this image from what I have heard. But once you try to use CS Steam, it takes quite a while, because Steam is checking to see if there are any CS Updates. Since you aint got 1.4 Beta, there is, so when you try and connect to a server (for first time) it starts downloading the update, and puts it in the cache folder. After you have downloaded you shouldnt need to download it again, and connecting to a server should be pretty quick. I don't know why Rizzuh says you download the game over and over.

Next thing - You are downloading CS, and it goes into your cache folder. This is said to be having the game on your Hard Drive. I don't understand how you CAN'T have it on your hard drive, so how does this make sense?

Once you have steam, it will sit there, waiting for game updates, so when 1.4 comes along, you shouldn't need to do anything, as Steam will fetch the update for ya.

Because Steam downloads the ENTIRE game, it is only good for Broadband users, but the final version won't download the entire game, what will it download? I'm guessing just the changes to the game. But if you aint got Broadband, there aint no real use to Steam.

From what I have gathered, Steam is pretty god damn useless. It is just like an auto-patch program. I am assuming that you DO NOT NEED STEAM EVER to play CS, am I correct? The only benefit of steam is that you don't need to go rushing to FTP servers to get the patches, since Steam gets them for you. The reason you are being forced to install Steam, however, is because there is no seperate CS 1.4 Beta installer, and the only way to get it is to use the Steam auto-patch software.

What is correct, and what isnt?

My major question is how does it download the entire game as what is the entire game? How can you not have the entire game?

I sympathize with your plight and the fact that many others might have to suffer the same fate.

                  I'm not being sarcastic.

I truly feel for you and others.

I wonder if there is a way Valve can take the best elements of 1.4 - Like the much improved hostage AI (which I agree completely with, btw), the new spectator modes and new hitboxes and just make a patch that has specific or selectable options when it comes out?

That way, you could still have 1.3, but with the improved options of 1.4 (I don't know what you would call it; CS 1.3a?) because I think the things that everyone likes - minus the Steam problems which won't be an integral part of 1.3 itself - Are the things I just listed judging from the response on this and other CS forums.

If we let Valve and the development team know this, perhaps they will see that a complete 1.4 upgrade WILL narrow down the amount of players and from a business perspective, that is something you don't want to do as I'm sure 1.4 will be in the next retail release of CS, right?

I'm kind of confused myself, even though I've played the damn thing.

I know people want to know more about the gameplay, but it appears, right now, the major issues are the tech things that are going to have to be worked out - and worked out NOW - Before 1.4 and CS:CZ comes out because both will utlize Steam in someway, correct?

If I am wrong, please correct me as well.

OK - I've just gone to play it again and I admit, i might stay. But just cos my computer sux i get 250 pings, and that is sumthing i could do without, especially as i got down 2 a ping of 10 in cs 1.3

The new maps are amazing, but why bother with steam?! As far as i'm concerned CS was great before it, and now they jst make it complicated and laggy. Plus my HL just fucked up so i'm gonna have to reinstall that

Also i'm sad to announce that in the game I played i already have encountered THREE cheat accusations. I guess the best things change, and the worst things stay......

I havn't played it yet, but I've heard and read alot about it...

I'm just worried about skins, will you be able to change skins, sprites and sounds in CS 1.4??

I wan't to know 'cause that question also decides if I'm going to go on playing CS or not...

                        Thanks // Nisse

Apparently, the final CS 1.4 will be an up-date patch that you use with your 1.3 so I would assume any models and skins you currently have and play CS with, you can use with since it just changes things in the actual gameplay itself - and how the server reacts to thins - And has nothing to do with actual skins and animations.

BTW... My knife animation on 1.4 is fine as many have reported bugs in it.

                          Avatar-X

I guess you're right that the best things change, yet the worst things still stay the same

I know this is completely OT, but the reason I jokingly posted in my first review of 1.4 about including a guide to internet ediquette is because the cheating accusations are exactly part of what is destroying CS along with the real cheaters themselves. Even moreso, I would say like many have said before me (I don't cheat by the way. Never have, NEVER will).

Here is the problem from my perspetive - And I promise not to go over things that others have cited over and over again.

The problem is that for the first time in history people can play video games for BIG money in tournaments ($150,000+) so it is no longer "just a game" to a lot of people - and not just Clans - So their attitude has changed from basically, "This is cool game and something I do to have fun" to "I'm playing to win so I can go to a tournament and make lots of money" which carries an attitude/mentality of "F*ck all of you who don't want to play for money. I'm better and you suck!" and other variations on that basic theme.

Again, this is my perspective, and why sometimes on pubs others like me who play merely for fun and have no desire to win tournaments and probably will never reach that level have to remind people to "chill out" and enjoy the game for what it is first and foremost: A game.

I'm not saying this makes me - or them - better than each other, but I do think this is part of the reason cheaters and accusation of cheats are so high because there is more at stake now than "just a game"... And why there is a certain skill level need to play even on public servers.

                          Make sense?

Sorry for going OT, but I think this needs to be addressed somewhere.

I now await the firey nades of death I'm sure many people will hurl at me for addressing this
