CS 1.4 BETA!

If Valve wanted to stop they they could easily do so.

So far, number of 1.4 servers has gone up by about 30%.



My only wish is that people don't start flaming about the crashes or bugs or what not. It's a beta, and still very unstable.

Oh please. Isn't this being just a tad egocentric? Beta-testing in general (whether it's limited or public) is not about rewarding certain people or really about individuals at all. It's about um, well... TESTING a PRODUCT to check it for flaws before final release. Valve has obviously indicated that it's now a public test, and no doubt this decision has been made not to take anything away from the previous beta testers but to really run 1.4 through the ropes with a wider audience. To be "disappointed" because yesterday you had been randomly selected to test something whose creators today have decided to test more widely is not only self-serving but illogical as well.

Well sorry for being egocentric, but some of the testers (ie. me) only got to test it for ONE day so far.

And the only reason you got to test it was this very site. Calm down, please. A public BETA is just fine. It'll make both Steam and CS 1.4 better. Not to mention the anti-cheat.

i just got the email yesterday, played it for awhile.. felt special, :)



playing the beta was like playing back in beta 5, where there wasn't a bunch of prick-ass-fucks spamming in caps with their immaturity, complaining like no tommoro.



being able to hold a nice conversation with others (where we're not actually yelling at eachother)..

Yesterday during the beta, I saw a few idiotic spammers in a server. Now there's just gonna be even more of em. I just don't feel special anymore. D:

so it looks liek the cheaters are already in CS 1.4

At least there is a lack of dial-up users, and the people ignorant (or just plain stupid) enough to not figure out how to install and use Steam.



I think Valve's idea with the 'quiet' release of the ****** was to slowly increase the usage of Steam. I got it on the 1st, when it was released. Two days ago I had 15 of my friends on my dedicated 1.4 server, twas great. Only funny thing was that I got a beta test acceptance the next day =/

Yes the servers will be more populated,yes there will be people spamming,yes there will be idiots.Get over it. It had to go public sometime so if you like playing in small groups of friendly people play LAN games. CS is not what it used to be:Small groups of people playing and having fun with no cheaters and good maps. Sorry. CS is in the Big Leagues and is in step two of the mod lifecycle. Step 1 is it's brand new,fresh,different,entertaining,not yet popular. Step 2 is it goes commercial.More people join.Something begins ruining the game(cheats viruses, lack of updates, poor updates, etc.). Stage 3 is the final part in the cycle.The factor ruining it either ruins it completely, the developers stop updating, the company funding moves on to newer things, or the gameplay just gets old.However 1.4 turns out or however long CS lasts it will leave me with some great memories and as long as CS is still fun we'll be there.

It's a bit nieve to think cheaters weren't already in the beta program before this public release. Unless there was a tick box at the sign up i don't think there would be any way to see the difference between a cheater and a legitimate player :-/

Yesterday I recieved an email saying I was a CS 1.4 beta tester, damn that felt good. I thank CS Nation for giving me the chance to beta test, I do not blame this site of what happened today either. I just want to know why Steam would email all of us beta testers and "make us feel good" then come out the next day and go public. I'm not the brightest guy, but to me that don't make any sense, if anyone has an answer I'd love a reply.
