Re: Bashandslash Twitter/Webcast Confirms Changes for PC
I don't mind Steam, I actually like the ability to just put my game discs off to the side on a shelf instead of swapping all of the time. You can also just copy your Steam directory from one PC to another and be right up playing. When I added this Win 7 RC 1 partition, I did that. I think everything installed more quickly than it possibly could have using discs.
I also don't think paying for map packs is really THAT huge of a deal. I think it's kind of lame, and I assume some companies hold back content just so they can sell it later. But whatever, it's their content and if people are willing to buy it, so be it.
But the performance impact implied here with forced matchmaking and making all clans nothing more than homeless nomads? Hey-Zeus H Christ! I've seen how things work on consoles and that transient nature contributes to a lot of the asshattery on there, I'm sure. There is also constant lag compared to what I'm accustomed to on the PC. I generally play on servers where I have a ping of 25-50, no higher if I can help it. Now I'm at the mercy of whatever random host assigned by matchmaking? We're supposed to trust it to do any and all thinking for us? Has anyone here left a lobby on Xbox live due to nutsackery, only to be matched right back in with the same people multiple times in a row? And Xbox Live has been around for years. IW thinks their new, untested service will do better? I don't think they do. I think they plan on letting it die fairly quickly, stating that PC gamers are pirates or something, and never developing on the platform again.
To me this is actually worse than if they simply didn't release the game on PC. It's the difference between watching someone waste away in a coma after a car wreck and having them just pass away in their sleep.
