WHAT THE ****! I thought this was a joke at first...

So, $60, they try to set a new precedent with the price, now they're trying to make this a console game...this is revolutionizing (in a bad way) PC gaming if this game is successful.

Well, I had still thought about buying this game, but now...hellz no. Not unless they change a lot of this crap. This is ridiculous.

Re: Bashandslash Twitter/Webcast Confirms Changes for PC

I am currently getting my money back from Best Buy for my Pre-Order, and money back for my Pre-Ordered Game Servers.

There is a Petition on the IW forums right now. It won't do any good, but it's to at least get our voices heard.

Heres a few of my thoughts I listed....

What a shame Infinity Ward. You guys have completely lost your roots due to simply the greed of Console gamers money.

You are destroying Server Companies, Competitive Gaming, Clans and the overall purpose of the game!!

You guys may be game developers, but may want to think about hiring people with a little common sense over there to keep you all in check. Releasing on time is no excuse to release an unfinished game.

Having Servers ran like Operation : Dragon Rising ... Price Check on Aisle Clueless, I think 2/3 people currently playing Dragon Rising have a pirated copy because Multiplayer is POINTLESS. Look at the demand for dedicated servers from their forums.

Sadly enough, I just finished getting my money back from Best Buy, and waiting for GameServers to refund my Pre-Ordered Server Costs. I will be playing the Free Game in Singleplayer till you guys actually release a PC Game worth calling a PC Game... and worth $60 at that.

Petitions are good for nothing, the few who care enough to come here and post their thoughts won't make up 1% of Infinity Ward's customer base, and just like EA, this is the beginning of Infinity Ward starting to not give a rats *** about their true supporters.

            /SIGNED
            and...

Dragon Rising was a gigantic let down for me when I found out Dedicated Servers weren't with the game. I have been looking forward to Modern Warfare 2 since it was announced, I was a huge gamer in Call of Duty 4 and can say there were some days my life wasted away just starring at the screen "Pwning Noobs" as the newer generation of gamers say and boy, was this news announcement just a strike through the heart.

Simply enough, whether or not they will be released down the line is not the issue, rather, this should've been the first thing on the list of things to Accomplish for the PC. Screw Single Player, I much rather have Infinity Ward completely mess up Single Player rather than destroy Multiplayer.

Think about it, go to any PC COD4 Gamers "XFIRE" Profile or just ask them straight out their hours difference. For what is recorded on my XFIRE Profile, I think it is something like 800 Hours Multiplayer to 20 Hours Single Player. I beat Single Player, it was fun ... but why go back and play again? I did not care about their hidden objects or any of that, I liked it for the storyline, I beat the storyline and then my attraction towards the game was all about Multiplayer for the next year+.

I believe XFIRE even held those "Play with Infinity Ward Devs" events. Well, looks like we won't be doing that anytime soon, now will we?

Maybe I am so fumed because I have been running my clan for the last 10 years, and this was the game we were planning on moving to. Maybe I am mad because of the hours I spent on my website converting it to a Modern Warfare 2 theme is now pointless, why even upload it? Tuck it away and save it for when Infinity Ward gets their heads out of their rears. I know it also hinders tournaments like Total Gaming Networks COD Tournament that has been re-doing their website for Modern Warfare 2. Can't have Tournaments running off of a kids home computer. "Dad!! People left my server because their ping is 300. Wahhh" ... Yeah, not going to sit too well.

Also what bothers me is their excuses that they have been "Working Overtime to get it polished". I can assure everyone that most of the hours developing this game has also gone to lots of laughs while owning each other in the office. I say this because I know a few people who worked on Frontlines : Fuel of War (What a fail game) and they did that quite a bit from what they told me.

Anyhow, I should just stop typing. My blood pressure is raising ... All over a game. Some people enjoy gaming, in winter, when I am not working on my cars, I spend time on the PC enjoying the COD Series. Hopefully this trend can continue, and IW doesn't leave the PC version for dead.

pre order canceled...........along with our entire clan.......

I knew it was a bad sign of things to come when Operation Flashpoint 2 was released with no dedicated servers and i just kept telling myself "at-least Modern warfare 2 is right around the corner, they would never leave out such an important part of of PC gaming in the name of console sales".........i guess i look like the fool now...........all in the name of console sales and meeting a development deadline....how sad is that.........

There is a thing out there called FPS Clans, And its a group of people who communicate and play together on dedicated Clan servers. So they can promote there clan and get new members and grow as a community. For a Clan its the main source where site traffic comes from. With out it, its like being homeless.

Its not just about gameplay its about building and sustaining a Clan.

I like to be able to run software to kick people who use Noob tubes, martydom, and other pointless perks used and abused in the game.

And yes I like dedicated servers so I can Run other Anti cheat programs like PBBANS so i can have a global live stream Banlist. And I do have the option to ban hackers and people who cause problems on the server.

This is not Xbox, this is PC, Dedicated servers are the foundation of the PC gaming community.

If There wasnt no such thing as dedicated servers, there would be allot less clans, and thats why Im here, to get info and update my clan. Its a big Cycle, if you try and remove something from that cycle things area going to happen.
Like less people here on your site for example. There is a bigger picture people just dont see it yet.

Re: Bashandslash Twitter/Webcast Confirms Changes for PC

ThQp your the one with the most optimism from what I can see in this thread and I hope to god your right I really do however I just can't bring myself to say it.

This move has effectivly signaled the end to numerous things that I loved about the call of duty franchise and frankly MW2 IS DEAD TO ME!

                  GSP's
                  Competitive Clans
                  Tournaments
                  Gaming Leagues
                  LANs
                  Modding
                  Mappers
                  Punksbusted
                  PBBans

The list goes on and on of groups that have been effectivly destroyed by this announcement

With it now just being listen servers run through IWnet and no more Dedicated servers the MW2 market for Game Server Providers such as MYIS has disappeared.

Competitive Clans who were gearing down their play on cod4 to prepare for MW2 will do what they did when WAW flopped competitivly and look back in the series and the tournaments will follow where these players go as that is their market.

However for me the most important group that this announcement has killed off will be the Mappers and Modders they for me have made the franchise the game it is worth playing, I rarely touch stock anymore most of my time is spent between tournament mods and conversion mods (Cant wait for Star Wars :P) and alot of custom maps have accounted for hours upon hours of my playing time and this has effectivly killed it. The only way custom maps and mods could work via a central listen server from what I can see is if every mod and map was uploaded centrally and updated centrally now imagine the strain this would put the system under. A tournament I play in has over a gig of custom maps and more are being added each week. The mod we play with can be uploaded daily as bugs are fixed and new items are added or the code is made more effecient. Imagine the effort that would need to go in to make a turnaround of having maps and mods avaliable straight away while having to vet each file as they would no longer be downloaded with IW's involvement it would be coming directly from them so it would be up to them as far as im aware to ensure that no harmful files would be distrubuted through their network. With the ammount of effort this would require I cannot see anyway past this and have to assume that the creative heart of the Call of Duty community has been killed off by this move

Re: Bashandslash Twitter/Webcast Confirms Changes for PC

Is it april? Did we just skip from Oct to april in a matter of mins? Are they trying to April Fool us? Please say yes. lol

This is a catastrophe, and in a few months when IW sees that most competent PC gamers are boycotting this game, and their sales are no where they want them to be. They'll come up with something to please us, most times they always do. Or treyarch our hero in the shadows will hopefully come out and please us. Because otherwise this will be the end of the CoD franchise or any IW game for that matter on the PC.

And by the way, any body in this thread whose saying MW2 is going to have the same functionality as most steam games now, are wrong. IWnet is going to be its own entity, its made by IW, it has nothing to do with steam or VAC. So the functionality of it, will be completely different from any steam game right now.

EDIT: Couldn't agree more CMAC, they're essentially killing the uniqueness brought to this game by modders and mappers.

Re: Bashandslash Twitter/Webcast Confirms Changes for PC

Well I just made my decision not to purchase this game until they make some massive changes. But that's not likely to happen because as long as they get money in their pockets they could care less how PC Gamers feel. No mods and custom maps = any other war game. I enjoyed the CoD series for years and this came as a huge disappointment Some of you guys are confused on things. Listen to the full podcast. This will not be like any other steam game. IW.Net ftl

Sadly, Console sales will hold IW easily.

And thats why IW thinks Console-like on the PC would be the best way to go. If you listen to 402, it sounds like they just want more control over the PC.

If you had people openly stealing your product wouldn't you want more control over it? Im not going to say its going to stop piracy but us PC gamers really shouldnt be surprised that many dev studios are heading in a way that allows them more control, with the rampant theft and piracy of PC games.

If they didn't dish out such crap then perhaps people would be more willing to pay. I know lot's of people who download games to try them and then if they like them, they buy them.

PS: Do you have any idea of the true scale of piracy on consoles also? Piracy has been around for thousands of years. Just because the media has put a spot light on it for a while doesn't mean it's ever going to stop. It wont.
