How do you have an admin with that ability with no dedicated servers, though? Those TF2 and CS:S servers have people running them, they aren't just running on some random Joe's box. So who will have that power? The guy with the fastest connection? Lot of power to give someone with no real reputation at stake.

I can't see any positives to this decision right now. I'm getting flashes of the time I did a private CoD4 listen server for a few friends with my 10MBdown/3.5MBup connection. I'm in Indiana, people in North Carolina were getting some lag. Home internet just doesn't seem suitable for more than a few players.

Right, I see your point and it seems right now there is no way to do it, but we just dont know everything about this.

You may be right, but someone has to have some control. How does it work on consoles? Does it? Can anyone answer that?

I ran a Crysis Wars server on my computer for a while (not dedicated) and while that's not the least demanding game in the world it ran good up until about 6 players total, then it started to lag a bit. Worked fine since I ran Instant Action (FFA) matches on small maps.

Any type of team game though and 3v3 is not good enough for a public server. I can only imagine the lag...

There is one person who is the Host, who has the ability to kick/ De Voice others in the game.

From what I've seen on Xbox Live, the host is chosen pretty much at random and can kick people at will. Some games also have voting systems, but I'm not sure about the CoD series.
No one has any real accountability or responsibility.

Why is this such an issue? Obviously the lack of mod support and possible lack of admins will bug some people, but is that why you were going to buy this? To kick cheaters and play mods? I don't care what server it's on, the gameplay is what's important here.

The gameplay itself will suffer, though. By limiting the amount of players, and listen servers WILL limit the amount of players, we'll be playing 4 on 4 before we start seeing lag instead of 20 on 20 with no lag.
On most PC games, you will see a greater variety of weapons used than on consoles. This is because there is usually some kind of lag or hit detection issue that makes using weapons with a low rate of fire a game of luck.

If you want, I can start up a listen server in CoD4 or WaW real quick and see how many people can play on my 3.5MB upload. If we can get to 32 and prove that the majority of players have connections that support the same or better, no problem...

I agree with this. I just dont think there is enough information yet to say how the game will play.

We dont know how a game is "assembled" to be played.
We dont know how it integrates into Steam exactly.
We dont know ANYTHING about IWnet.

They also mentioned custom rules and things through this system at 1:58:00. Maybe that will give a new way of competitive play.

The change is different and we dont have enough infromation to say if it is good or not.

The problem is that those games were not designed for a listen server. Thats another thing we dont know is how much changed codewise to allow this.

This. COD4 mods beyond the Douchebag society known as Pro mod is very lacking. They have still given clans a way to play its just different then what were used to, things change. I support IW on this although I do have my reservations. Alot more Information is comming thats for sure.

the competitive aspect will go bye bye... also there's not a lot of access or support on the vac side of things for admins... i am very disappointing to see this happen. reminds me of ubisoft all over again.

From the sounds of it CoD is going to run kinda like 1943 and BF:BC2.

DICE screw with the customer all the time, you can tell by the posts and news in the BF section.

I'm sorry, have I just walked into a parallel dimension where this is the future of FPS, people walk around with shoes on their heads and have jobs they pay for?

What the flying font is going on? Has everyone gone completely insane?? Stop the world, I want to get off.
