"DUDE SOMEONE IS IN THAT AA". Which really, for balance sakes, kinda stupid. Especially since the AA is so weak. (dont argue this, its weak) Now if AA was really strong, yes, a warning that its occupied, would be acceptable. However now, all that warning does for pilots is yell, "FREE KILL HERE DUDE!".
But anyways, Shoulder fired Stinger kits, combined with the AT kits........like Desert COmbat had.....and the game would be a tad bit more fun. (kinda like DC was a tad bit more fun, then bf2)
AMEN! I have recently started playing DC_F again...mainly for that reason. Both flying and shooting down flying objects is a lot more fun there. The planes/helos are agile and you actually have to find targets on your own (no magic target indicators in the HUD) - the infantry (AT) always have a fair chance at taking out the air vehicles with Stingers or SMAW:s.

I don't think tweaking effectiveness of AA etc is the solution. Guided missiles (doesn't matter if it's Air-to-Air, Surface-to-Air or Air-to-ground) are wrong. Period. The sooner we can get rid of those and go back to unguided rockets the better. If I hit something in DC, it actually feels like there was some skill involved - not some random function that decided that this particular missile would automatically guide itself and hit the intended target instead of teamkilling a helo at the other end of the map.

Ground AA is the only missle that hits a J10...so why are you crying?

Because jets aren't the problem, is that damn Hind. Jets are only looking for the real juicy targets while these damn chopper pilots shoot up everything that twitches. Maybe the solution would be to include blow-up tank decoys like they used in WWII, caused i think the choppers would shoot at em even if they knew it was fake.

I don't care about the jets, i might get bombed by a jet once a round while i get mowed over by the chopper every 30 seconds.

Pfft, hop in a jeep and cut the chopper down. You can do that on practically any map except Sharqi if you let MEC get two Mi-28s.

Now that that's been said, try shooting a jet down.

He doesn't need to shoot down jets since he said they don't bother him.

              10 pages? wow.

I think blnky was the only one who suggested getting rid of the hud for the turret. Interesting suggestion. I wonder what the original rationale for that was. If a guy is sitting in a turret and just scanning the sky, is the approximation to real life supposed to be that he's emitting some radiation that can be picked up by the electronics on the jet? I dunno.

              But 10 pages? wow.

EDIT: and do the fixed machine guns light up as well? Or the TOWs? Let me rephrase that...do the machine guns light up on an infantry guys map? Do the TOWs light up while in a humvee, jeep or a tank?

Its one of DICEs miscalculation. They thought that noone would be that good to keep using the turrets constantly at high proficiency. Not many do it even today, actually.

Odd ball comment, but one I'll toss out anyway:

I always wished that AA emplacements and vehicles had an active and passive mode. When in active, things would work like they do now. When in passive, you wouldn't get any targeting information, tracking range would be drasticly reduced, and enemy planes wouldn't get highlight boxes on you.

Hell, I just wish they'd do a real sensor system. No one has beaten Tribes 2 for it's sensor mechanics and that's a crying shame consitering that game is what.... 5 years old?

Noone knew that everything would lead to this current situation. AA emplacements seemed like a good idea I guess, and in theory they are. They need that perfect balance between efficiency and forgiveness.

In no way- 100% efficiency is good. There should be a way for a pilot to survive, flares excluded.

In my opinion, significally beefing up AA missiles speed and keeping the range what it was before, would do the job.

                          Meh.
I don't even think the speeding up is required. What's more, it could be destabalizing to the engine. Dice had a hell of a time getting missiles to work in the first place. Futzing with the missile speed could cause problems with that all over again.

As I've stated before, I think the best tweak would be to incease surface AA tracking range, reduce AA missile damage, reduce aircraft armour.

This would ramp up their threat to aorcraft while not making choppers totally useless (since their armour isn't reduced, they'd be able to survive the extra hits they are likely to take for the extra range). It also increases the effectiveness of plane cannons (which should make the hardcore dogfighters happy) as well as guns from mobile AA and mounted .50 cal. It might still be hard to hit planes from mounted guns, but with this suggestion atleast it would hurt when you get lucky.

I know I'm harping on this, but I haven't seen anyone logicly poke a hole in the idea yet.

Makes sense to me. Fighter jocks complain this makes the choppers too powerful, but then again the choppers only fly a couple hundred mile an hour at best, so you get a lot more shots off at them. With jets you have a very small time window to do something, then half the time there's a tree in the way or they've popped flares at the first sound of a buzzer.

i think making an AA class would fix the problem or giving AT an AA nade launcher, let alone shooting at a heli should do a little more dammage then it is now

We've heard this at least several billion times since the game was released. It involves a LOT of extra work. Dice would have to re-vamp the interface to allow for the extra class (making it an AT option isn't viable since they can only change the "main" weapon unlocks), they'd have to make a new model for the shoulder fired stinger, animate it, make sure it's balanced (ie, almost worthless, since you'd have to account for the number of people that could be using it at the same time), and do up the HUD, sound effects, and a bunch of other things I've no doubt forgoten.

                                Bottom line: Ain't gonna happen.

Better to remain focused on tweaks that might actually see the light of day.

                                Exactly.

And as someone who enjoys flying choppers, I'll flat out state that they are NOT overpowered at this point. There's SO many threats to 'em and they really do require 2 (skilled) players to make 'em work properly. Soloists may claim differently, but I've yet to see any solo attack chopper pilot that can reliably take on a properly manned one.
