Re: Info about AA in 1.21

Ive just returned from round 1 wake...I allowed a guy to lock on and he fired 2 away, dodged both(jinking)these were almost level shots...I guess I downed 10 f-35s or so and I can tell you that the a2a will still connect good but not near as crazy as was in 1.2...

I tested quite a few things including locking on allowing them tyo begin to bank while I turn the other way and firing and forgetting, result was no kill...Now I was able to hit some missles in some pretty hard turns aswell but there are definate changes.

SAM seem to be just as lethal, was hard to tell on ground AA but I did get hit twice in some serious evasive maneuvers.

Well it was just one round, time for dinner then Ill be back, didnt see the sideways missles in a2a..

I guess it is back to cannons to take down enemy aircraft. And also back to wondering what that annoying buzzing sound is (if you are in a j10, of course).

Not at all is it back to cannons!

The missles fire straight now,I actually had an f-18 (when they took the strip) manage to evade me quite well while I was in the j-10,I was touching his six(VERY CLOSE) and firing missles and they were going low and straight I couldnt even see them and was wondering "wtf where are my missles?"....The main thing was is that he was evading the missles where I was getting partial locks....this was alos the only decent pilot I encountered.

            Great info.
            SO...
For A2A combat, since missles can turn and find its target easier than before, auto canon will be more useless in air combat? Prolly only useful for taking out SAM and boat enemies.

I cant really say to much as it was just one round, from a dogfighting perspective I saw improvements I liked...I mean I was already thinking if the a2a missles were good its ok by me,I really dont want all guns either...But I also didnt want them to spin around in circles at mach 3 - 20 times before they actually hit something.

LOL After installing the 1.21 patch i was getting owned by AA and fighters. A fighter kept blwoing up my blakchawk and i nebver knew it was around or saw it. The AA missiles are good.

Then again, i didn't play on 1.2 so i don't know if they are not as bad now.

                  Edit:
I just played one round. The AA is NOT is deadly as it used to be. However, some people scored few kills. I did not have any luck though.
dogfighting is definitly more challenging now.
Alright sweet, now just to wait for my favorite 24/7 wake server to get the patch loaded

My overall grade for AA changes in 1.21 is a C, compared to the F- I'd give 1.2 airplanes/AA

I just finshed 6 rounds in a row on 64 player servers, spent the entire duration in a plane.

                      My observations:

                      1) Ground AA still hits every single time barring a missile malfunction or flares.

                      2) Flares still do not work like they should, and often times missiles will ignore them.

                      3) Dogfighting is much better, but still not as good as it was in 1.12, the missiles are close to that level though now in planes. I was in a J-10 though, and fragging F-35Bs in a max turn without problem. I downed maybe 20 fighter planes or so without the use of cannons. Missile hit rate is about 50% for me. Needless to say when I was in a J-10 the other planes didn't stand a chance.

                      4) Lock range seems no different to me. It seems just as big as before, but then again when I'm aiming I'm always dead on either way so it's difficult to tell.

                      5) All missiles fly smoothly and no longer zig zag around

                      6) Killing helicopters in an airplane is a little more challenging now that missiles don't hit every single time

                      7) Rogue missiles seem to be less frequent, but still active as nearly half my damage came with a "Hey! Cease fire!" message attached.

Bottom line is, it's an improvement for all parties, ground crews can defend themselves. I'm not sure about the lock radius being smaller because as I said it seemed not to effect me at all and I didn't even notice it. However, DICE still failed to balance the planes handling characteristics out, and thus the J-10 still dominates the sky as missiles continue to hit without all that interaction. At least you can't fire AA missiles whenever you feel like it now though, and that is by far the biggest improvement in 1.21.

This is serviceable though, and I hope DICE considers this a "temporary" fix till they can work out something a little more concrete in 1.3. I'd love a system where you have to keep AA pointed at your target for tracking to continue (also known as the skill based system).

                      That is all.

The lock radius did not change as I mentioned above. It is still 300m for SAM and 375m for A2A.

No, I meant, the lock crosshair being smaller/larger, in "degrees".

I think you mean "Field of View".

That's what we're interested in knowing. Is it harder to track planes now given the field of view "degrees" is much lower.

When you get a chance, would be interested in finding out how you do with a F35/stingers.
