My best friend spend 4 days in Tallinn just 2 weeks ago and from what he told me didn't sound like it would be different there. Only my first comment was aimed at your post so plz try not to be a smartass. All I wanted to say is, your argument is false. Think it over, cause gun access isn't the reason. You can get a gun just as eseay in any European country as you can in the US. Only difference is, it's illegal.
In any Europian country is just as easy to buy a gun. the difference is:
a)Over there there aren't that many divorced and disfunctional families, so the kids don't lack the basic family education and moral values. That's why they don't kill each other.
b)The people over there are not that much into buying weapons. Having need to own a gun is mostly American tradition, from the times when the country was founded by killing the Indians.

Counter-Strike is strongly based on reflex time: since younger children respond faster to stimuli, with everything else being equal, they are advantaged.

My 6yr old son is an excellent commander. He drops supplies before asked most times, and tries very hard not to arty his own troops. He doesn't really direct troops, but if someone asks for support he'll send a squad that way. He can't read, but he knows what is being said. So requests that come to him are quickly handled. Repairs, Supplies, Arty, UAV etc.... all go out right away.

He loves playing a medic because he can help other people. Lately he's discovered support. The only reason he got the sniper upgrades is he saw me shoot a guy through the window of a jet on a runway and thought it was neat.

I have some very strict rules for games, videos, movies, etc... that my son is allowed to play or see. NOTHING that has blood or gore. Thats rule #1. He even knows how to look on games for the warning label. Nothing with a M label at all. No R rated movies, even if I'm right there with him.

He's a very good child. He does his homework right after dinner every night (he's in kindergarten). He'll get maybe an hour of "game time" which he can spend on PS2 or PC. When his friends are over he gets more PS2 time if he wants. We (his mother and I) set the time he's allowed to play. We check out every game or video he's allowed to play/see. And we don't use the game or movie as a substitute-sitter. If he's playing a game, one of us is right there with him. It shows him that we are interested in the same things he is.

I could go on about the issue of children playing video games, but the bottom line is that age doesn't determine a childs ability to grasp whats occuring in a game. Maturity determines that. I've set rules to govern what my child is able to see, and play. Games that depict the killing of others are generally off-limits BUT if they aren't bloody or gorey(?) and the people respawn, I let him play.

Re: My five year old Pwns Karkand

It reminds me of a guy who used to work for me. I own a couple of a LAN centers, so I see every type of gamer out there, believe me.

This guy was the "30-something, I hate my life so I game." type. He was absolutely addicted to computer games, I mean ADDICTED, like being glad he got laid off of work so he could grind in SWG for 12 hours a day.

OK, so he has a son, a kid about 5. And he puts him into CS. Tells the kid, "WASD, space bar, be sure to buy the AWP". Then he sits back and absolutely screams at the kind "NO! Turn - over there! Kill him! Killll Himmmmm!" for about 2 hours, until the kid finally breaks down because of all the pressure and parental back-seat-driving, and he cries.

I mean, it's effing pathetic. This is a game designed for teens and older. It's violent, it's often mean, and it's always confrontational. Do you REALLY want to train your innocent little 5 year old to become used to killing people, to blowing things up, to driving over people, to sneaking up and knifing folks, before the kid's old enough to get into a PG-13 movie?

If the answer is anything other than "hell no!", then don't be surprised if one day you end up with your cute little puppy becoming one mean junkyard dog by the time teen age years roll around...

It's like the self-esteem thing. 15-20 years ago, everyone said "Oh praise the kids! Don't tell them their mistakes! Just praise their efforts in school."

And we ended up with an illiterate generation who have more attitude than Muhammad Ali, but nothing to show for an education other than some fluency with a spell-checker.

The same thing will happen when you train a 5 year old child's mind to become used to online murder. It's not healthy. Think it through.

That guy was over the top and shouldn't have been allowed to reproduce.

You never mentioned if you have children?

Army men, action figures, cops and robbers, cowboys and indians. How many times will that silly coyote get squashed/fall/electrocuted/etc... before he finally gives up.

Each child is different, each parent thinks differently. Hopefully we'll do whats right for our individual children and raise the next generation to be caring adults.

                    Ever watch Tom and Jerry?

                    Kids are violent and confrontational.

Theres no link between violent video games and violent people.

Not to mention A the kid seems happy and B you have no idea about the guys background so you cant really jump to conclusions about the way he rases his kids based on one photo.

Banning violent video games would do nothing positive for child development other than create a generation who have difficulty being able to tell reality from non-reality because what youre doing is assuming that kids cant do that and starving them of the practice in doing so (and calling it protection).

You also gloss over the positive things that can be learnt in any game (things that have been proven). Hand-eye coordination, multitasking, strategy etc etc.

And the arguement that games can kill you is flawed since alot of anything can kill you...a woman once overdosed on water and died.

Didn't start with them. It happened like 6 years ago. Someone accidently hit a "P" instead of an "O" and it's been "Pwn" ect. ever since for some players.

First of all, unless you're a parent, you have no business commenting on any aspect of parenting because you have no idea what you're talking about...period. In other words, you don't know jack, so STFU.

To the OP, while it's really hard to imagine any commander being worse than some I've had, I'd request you not let the kid CO anymore. I'd say the same for squad leader unless you lock the squad so only you and then can join.

I thought it was because some players were complaining about being "Owned" because owning another person was a reference back to slavery. So they changed it to pwnd to avoid the filters?

Cmon someone must have the history of pwnage.

And regarding letting a 6yr old command, I'd say that my 6yr old son is in the top 20% of all commanders I've ever had in game. The ONLY time he'll command is when nobody else will after a few minutes into the game.

My son really likes helping others. His favorite class is medic and he'll heal, toss bags and paddle ya even if he has to cross a squad of PKM's to get to you. He puts that same effort into Command.

I've watched him zoom in and spot enemy snipers (and arty them if needed). I've watched him zoom in on his own snipers and place supplies on the roof next to them. I've watched him put down supply crates in the path of his teams tanks so they can repair on the way to the next skirmish. He even uses the squad notification of "Artillery in your area" to notify each squad if he's called in a strike. I've also watched him sigh and say "oops, I think I hit some of my team with that artillery". I've been in a LOT of games and wished I had a Commander as good as he is.
