Here's my 7 year old, playing on his own computer, on Karkand:

Gitea (Git with a cup of tea) is a painless self-hosted Git service written in Go

He's been playing since he was 6. Here are his stats:

And please, no "OMG you suck as a parent!! Your kid plays BF2!! Bla bla bla". I play BF2 with him all the time, and he really enjoys playing with dear old dad. Sure, he's exposed to some profanity every once in a while, but that's life, and it's hardly escapable.

Anyhow, I also play board games, basketball, soccer, etc with him, plus I help him do his homework. Maintaining BF2 privileges (yes, he has to earn BF2 playtime) by making sure homework is done (he's in 2nd grade) has been a great motivator.

My best friend spend 4 days in Tallinn just 2 weeks ago and from what he told me didn't sound like it would be different there. Only my first comment was aimed at your post so plz try not to be a smartass. All I wanted to say is, your argument is false. Think it over, cause gun access isn't the reason. You can get a gun just as eseay in any European country as you can in the US. Only difference is, it's illegal.
Bad parenting alone will not screw up a kid. And no, I live in Estonia, I know how it is here, you cannot get a hold of a gun as easily. If you wanted to, youd be looking hard to get one. But in US, theres a gun in most households. Thats my point. So the reason- bad parenting, negative environment, psychological tendencies AND opportunity. Such drastic examples such as school shootouts are a combination of ****full of bad luck and many, many, many other factors. You seem to think its bad parenting through letting kids play video games? First of all, I don't know what it is that makes children go on a rampage, I'm not a so called expert. I also don't know why it happens more in the US than in any other country in the world (although there have already been school shootings in countries like Germany or Japan). Hm, do you live in Estonia or are you from there? Do you have friends there? Do you know the streets at least a little? I could explain how to turn a gas gun (legal in most European countries) into a real one but I will not on here. But it's fairly simple. That's not to offend you, it's only to say if you wouldn't know how to get one it's really only because you don't know where to look. One thing might be trure though, guns have more of a bad name over here.

Also on a side note I don't quite understand your position now. In the begining of your post you say:

              Than you say
You seem to think its bad parenting through letting kids play video games?
So if your question is, whether I think it's bad parenting to let a child play videogames I would have to say no. But it depends.

First, yeah, I live in Estonia. I know how to get a hold of a gun. But getting a gun through legal/illegal means isnt what I´m talking about. Im talking about getting a gun as soon as you feel a need for it. That being- the gun being available in your desk. SInce most households in US have a gun (very few have in EST, except for hunters of course), there you have an opportunity.

Yeah, I also think letting a child play video games isnt bad. I also think that violent games/movies dont make children go on rampage. Those are my positions :).

Re: My five year old Pwns Karkand

Whoa whoa....going from some good fps time with some little kids...to going on a rampage? Crazy...most of those kids are confused, misguided, or depressed...or they think they're a straight g :p I have 2 guns... a 30 ot 6 Hunting Rifle and a .22 Rimfire. But, nowhere ever anytime have i ever thought about using them on a person...even after playing BF2 of any FPS for a longated timeframe (like when you start daydreaming and think, about the game irl, like what if i could spawn over there...or what if this was a map)

"They've" done countless tests on videogame violence correlating to real violence, and movies and songs have shown to have more of an impact, although this has yet to be seen with next-gen graphics adding to realism.
(By "they" i mean people all concerned with it, certain branches of government, ESRB, and such, the NRA even did a poll.)

Re: My five year old Pwns Karkand

Our 4yr old son has had his own PC since he was 1. Before he was one he would sit on my lap and watch me play some games like racing games and he always laughed and enjoyed himself.

Since he has had his own PC he plays a lot of different games. I have never been worried that its unhealthy (he only plays for small amounts of time) never worried he was being corrupted because I sit there and explain to him the difference between playing a game and real life and he fully understands it. He tells me things like you can't drive fast in real life because a policeman will book you but driving fast in a game is good fun.

BF2 won't run on his PC because he has a Geforce 4 series card but BFV does. So to play BF2 he has to play on my machine or the Mrs. We often play single player games together in a network and play in a squad and he knows the green guys are his buddies, the blue guys are his team and the red guys are the baddies. Coming from BFV he knew that the baddies could be either red or blue. Though as I said he doesn't play it as a kill or be killed game and we never encourage that. He plays it merely for the enjoyment he gets from driving buggies, APC's, tanks, flying heli, planes and parachuting from them.

His hand/eye coordination is excellent for a kid his age as you would probably imagine. He has never stuffed up his PC and his same Windows install is still fine. Can't say the same for most of my customers who can stuff their PC's windows install in less than a week sometimes.

He has trouble double clicking fast enough to launch an app. I could slow it down but he found his own workaround all by himself. He rights clicks on the icon then left clicks on open and he can't even read and has done this since he was about 1 1/2. He can navigate through any game he plays, even without being able to read, can choose different maps, tracks, cars etc you name it.

Guns are banned in Australia. We don't have any guns in the household and you would have to drive into the country to find the odd farm that still has a gun. So I have no fear of him or any other kids going on a rampage in Australia like you see happening in the USA.

In that case you would be right but that's not the profile of a school shooting. If you go deeper into the matter you'll notice school shootings aren't spontanious. They're planned. No kid just snaped and went on a killingspree in school. It's a process involving activley thinking about killing people which gives you time to get a gun in advance. This is an exausting topic, but maybe your gun access argument won't make up for school shootings. Cheers :)
