Re: 1.2 Death of Attack Helis

Bah Sharqi is no big deal whatsoever and by spamming the TV tower from the back you can rack up a huge score. You also have cover. You can go from the MEC heli base round the outside of the map to the back of the tv tower. Then your gunner can let loose at all the idiots who constantly spawn on the roof and cry rape when there are other bases to spawn at.

Sharqi is not much different to as it was before, however if all the AA is manned and .50 cals you can have a handfull as well and then its a different story!

There is also plenty of cover on Sharqi if you get target you can drop down by the water and run along the edges.

Other maps though like dragon valley, Oman etc you don't have that.

I'm kinda' shocked that everyone uses "Helo" time as the sole basis for "Helo" skill. Could it every occur to you that I would rather not stand around at the primary spawn doing nothing, waiting on the chopper to spawn out? Eh... eh?

No. You're a tad' bit too short sighted for that. Which, I'll let slide.

Yeah, people with skill can still fly helicopter... no more hovering around with impunity racking up cheap kills.

Considering that I don't whore a heli for myself, I play for the gunner, I could easily have a kdr of 5:1 if I whored the heli for kills myself. I play as a team where the gunner racks up the kills. If the gunner misses I mop them up. I'm a considerate pilot not a true whore. Hours wise yeah I prefer to fly helis and I enjoy the challenge.

Besides the majority of his kills could be as a co-pilot or whoring in the BH so for me your opinion means nothing and in fact I challenge you to see how long you can last in an attack heli on our server. If your up for it either pm me, contact me via our site www.r2clan.com and we will arrange a time to fly in 1.2 I want to see your skills and see how long you last and see whether you are merely all talk, which isn't hard to see instead of action.

We can play it both ways. I will gun for you, you gun for me. Then I will teamswitch and see how long you last against me or our squad heli hunting. If you can last longer than 1 minute in the air in 1.2 I will be very suprised.

So how about you put your money where you mouth is?

Same challenge goes out to anyone who thinks they have these marvellous tactics for 1.2 Again put your money where you mouth is.
Our server, you pm me when you are available or contact me on our site www.r2clan.com We will arrange a date/time and play on Dragon Valley. I look forward to sampling your god-like 1.2 heli skills.

I agree, perhaps it would be fixed if they double the HP of the attackcopper. And don't start whining because a tank can't kill it one shot, your FAV will overheat, its just normal, just SPOT it and leave the destruction to the planesAA, and the AA stays as it is, they can only make it worse with a new patch.

Experience is experience bud. I definately don't have to prove anything to you, just compare our chopper statistics. 3/4 of my time is piloting as well. If you want to go though, I'll go. BYOG (bring your own gunner).

Oh, and I'm not short sighted... I'm usually the first one into the game because my computer loads up first, and I don't die often. Plus, people usually let me fly after they have seen a few runs.

                  1) Correct angle, different angles under different situation.
                  2) Correct timing, WHEN to shoot and when NOT TO WASTE the missiles.

But hey, its easier to yell out and say "it doesnt work".
Christ... Christoph. It didn't work bud'. You could line a Helo up 50m in front of an static Anti-Air defense, fire both missiles without the Helo flaring, and have both missiles fly off into the blue yonder and strike a friendly.

There is no amount of skill that can compensate consistantly for the A.A. "picking" it's own targets. As it did almost 50% of the time pre-patch.

No. Im riding this "insane notion" that you could use the AA and be effective with it IF youve gathered some skills. Theres a HUGE difference .
Since I also believe that since AA is not fun to use noone was willing to master it. So an increase in efficiency while keeping in mind that people wont spend an equal time in an AA as they do with jat was necessary. HOWEVER- I do not support this- if you have a lock-on tone, and the target has no flares, the target is history. I dont support this. And remember, this argument is about AA, and its mainly about nerfing the chopper armor.
Even in gathering logic and skill, I was still able to make the A.A. hit about 50% of the time on a target it should have decimated (Stationary Helo, Jet flying away from my position without banking). What other abbilities do you need in order to fire a weapon that's guided "NOT" by your hand, but by locking onto your enemy? Short of setting myself up for a completely logical shot, and pulling the trigger, what else should I have been doing? Praying? ...should I have been working on some time of hack? Maybe jump on the missie and surf it up to the completely oblivious jet pilot? What? I'm at a loss for what more I could have done to increase the hit percentages...

...as for nerfing the Helo armor. I don't mind it at all. It gives the "Tank" role back to that of a "Tank". A helo should not be able to float with the assurance that the first Anti-Tank round that collides with him can serve as a warning sign. Instead of an immediate death threat.

Actually I was. I was being a bait and the .50 cal was the primary weapon. I kept the chopper busy, he kept on shooting. Whenever the chopper went after the .50 cal he maintained a straight flight pattern. Most of the times I hit. Whenever the chopper came after me, the .50 cal(s) took him out or damaged badly for the same reason. I didnt form a "squad" to do this, but I observed the battlefield. I still took my chances whenever I could, but AA+.50 cal scenario I just presented worked pretty damn good. Now imagine if people actually did this all the time prepatch?
...I agree? Helos could be taken down by .50 cal fire. Don't think I ever disagreed with this. On to the next issue...

Against jets? I remember being hit by AA multiple times while being engaged in a dogfight. I didnt like that all it took was a simple maneuver of turn to get rid of a missile. I think that DICE had SP in mind, where AAs hit you far more often and even there it was a bit too easy to evade them. All in all- MY beliefs as you were so easy to judge- MY beliefs are that AA needed an accuracy boost against jets but I guess we all knew that choppers would be beat up by it the most. If the counter-element against choppers and jets is beefed up so its effective, nerfing the target becomes unnecessary. You can sum up my opinion about the matter with that sentence.
If you were hit by static A.A. in a Jet Pre-Patch. You weren't doing somthing right. I was maybe hit by static A.A. twice in my entire time of flying a jet (As limited as that may be, I cannot stand to sit in the stupid things the entire round. They get boring and repetitive). Hell, stationary A.A. sites just served as a pest... they threw of my sense of "lock". I never could tell if it was a little annoying peon on the earth's surface, or an enemy fighter. Until I looked over my shoulder...

But, really. Static A.A. was all but worthless Pre-Patch against jets.

What an ignorant statement. I remember I couldnt do **** with a chopper until I worked hard (was forced to work hard) to reach a level where I didnt crash into trees. And even then I was completely owned. And shooting that .50 cal hardly would require much effort. Positioning that .50 cal and pre-work should.

I think many noble pilots confuse themselves. Aiming that machine gun into a target requires you "little effort" to pull off. But remember when you started up? I do. I couldnt hit jack****, I couldnt hit jack**** even then when I was reasonably good in dogfighting.
How's it an ignorant statement? I fly Helos as well, and truth be told it's about the same as the first week I started. Granted, I'm now able to judge the width of all the Helos in respect to one another. I know more about the game, and how each Helo should be implemented. Yet, my ability to navigate, and balance the weapon, hasn't changed. I'm still the innate pilot I was to begin with..

Now Jets, those took me some time. I went from Mouse, to Joystick, back to Mouse. Then I finally decided I don't like jets, and I don't use them unless my team needs me to keep the skies clean. Yet, I surely don't bomb in the things. Especially the fighter, it's a waste of time.

...bold? Maybe. Ignorant? Hardly. I know what I'm talking about because I have first hand experience. While it might vary from yours, I still stick by the notion that piloting is easy. Gunning isn't so hard in its self either. Although, I don't gun. I'm a pilot. Not a gunner...

The reason WHY an "attack" chopper cant fulfill its supporting role in BF2 is because there is no frontlines where you support your troops. Action is pretty much everywhere. You can get hit by an AA you thought was safe. Attack chopper "supporting" ground troops as an idea can only be taken seriously in "supply lines" gamemode with a pretty much fixed frontline.

Theres a thing. This topic is about helos vs AA and how the situation forces helos into a tight spot as soon as they leave the "safe zone" so they cant fulfill their role as an "attack" chopper. Due to it being relatively low, behind cover, it makes them suspectible to ground fire and a skilled tankdriver can easily sink a shot into its hull.
...my Unit's gunner, and myself, do and excelent job of piloting a Helo. He takes out what needs to be taken out, I line him up for shots only using missiles when it's dire situation. A.A. doesn't pose any threat to me because I know it's location, and I have faith that my gunner is capable of taking them out on the outskirts of their targeting capability.

So. No, you're wrong. Your perception of the limitation of Helos only applies to you and a select other group of Pilots. Doesn't seem to apply to me and the rest. Most of the pilots in game have learned to adapt. I don't see what's holding you back. Sure, I don't finish with 50pts in a round. Yet, I do finish with around 25 or so, and my gunner around 50+. We do just fine, and clear the way for the serious flyboys. What do you spend your time doing?

One more thing I should underline. I love BF2 because of its air action, therefore expect me to always be biased.
Well. I guess I should underline that I'm a "Jack of all Trades". I fly, I pound, and and drive the hell out of a FAV. So, my opinions on the issue are completely unbiased.

The attack helis copped the biggest nerf by far out of anything in 1.2 Now they are nothing more than flying coffins. With reduced hitpoints, over-powered AA, missiles reduced from 14 to 8 and TVGM range reduced to 400m, only 1 person can count towards the cap of a flag, 1 shot kills from tanks, 1 .50 cal blows a heli before it overheats, 2 AT rockets and they blow, why did they need to nerf the attack helis like this, because of the cry baby noobs with no brains to take them down.

I tell you why because of noobs who don't have a brain and thought they should be able to take an attack heli down by firing their G36C at them and then wonder why they die, because you gave your location away firing a bb gun at an attack heli and tank whores that cried 1 shot should kill a heli when 1 shot in 1.12 left a cobra from full health to in the red with 3.5 bars health, 1.5 bars more damage and they catch on fire.

By suping up the AA to be noob friendly, point, 2 left clicks and your dead, also means now that planes are so deadly against helis as well. If a plane targets you now waits for flares to drop then there is no escape in an attack heli. 1 sec burst from a planes mg and your dead. Way to go DICE in nerfing the planes now they are way more powerful against helis.

Lars the franchise director must be a total noob to request these changes, and be a total tank whore, please pass that message onto him from me Demize. Guess what helis are suppose to kill tanks, not the other way around. Helis are suppose to kill ground pounders with their G36C's firing at them. If you use your brain you would find it was easy to take a heli down in 1.12 AA was effective against helis, especially if 2 sites were firing at you it almost always = death. .50 cals were extremely effective, especially if 2 were firing at you, if it didn't kill you it would make you run away.

I'm only talking about attack heli's not BH's. I agree they were flying tanks and should have had their hp reduced but why attack heli's?

I have over 200hrs flying attack helis, call me a whore I don't care that is what I enjoyed the most in BF2 and it was a challenge before. However hours wise I might be a whore but I flew for the co-pilot. A true whore only goes for the kills themselves. I wouldn't rack up a lot of kills but my co-pilot sure would. Thats how its meant to be.

I couldn't care less if people call me a whinger because those that do are the cry baby noobs who moulded 1.2 to how it is today. Well done noobs glad your happy.

Thanks DICE for signing the death of the attack helis with this 1.2 noob patch and listening to all those cry baby noobs. I spose if you cry often enough you get radical changes made in BF2.
Would you like some cheese with that whine?
