Re: PlaneWhore: yet another AA vs jet thread (renamed)

Had a very long post about people vs PW. From what I see- most if not all of those who resort to blatant insults are envious of his scores. His video clearly shows that he was more useful to his team than any groundpounder. And as a jet pilot, thats pretty much whats expected.

My personal opinion- beefed AA- good. STill requires skills as I read from here so people will be back whining that it cant hit ****.
Dogfights- nana- before that a pilot with skills and luck could down you and you definitely knoew you weer beat by a better man. It was fun and entertaining and boy it was exhausting. I dont think 20 seconds of fame would be that fun. I know I can stick behind most of the pilots, if it takes me ONLY that to down anyone, I woulnt consider dogfighting skillful anymore.

Dont get me wrong gentlemen. I dont care much about the score when I fly. When I see troops advancing towards a flag, I treat my plane as mobile artillery. When I see a spotted tank. I try to get it down. I only resort to raping the uncappables when a pilot shows too mucg arrogance and even then its a one time deal to deliver a message.

As a teamplayer both on ground and off ground I feel offended that most of my efforts are not appreciated. Most of the good pilots efforts arent appreciated. And most of the whining just starts because they get more points. A jet vs a grunt= who do you think brings in more firepower? You cant take down 5 guys or that APC, I cant take that flag. Allright buddy. I´ll take down those guys and you cap that flag. Deal? Deal. Teamwork- absolutely.

you can still get loads of kills in planes etc its just now the people you kill can actually use somthing against them.

People who are now whining should really be ashamed of themselves whoring it up in jets probably tking for them a lot of the time all because they knew they could get dozens of kills and few deaths and of course if they played in other roles they probably wouldn't last five minutes.

Now its fair end of story, and also surprise surprise people don't tk or que up as much for aircraft because to do well in them you really do have to play well :)

Even with k/m I was able to fly high and rack up kills, but that wasn't fun.
Get real. Now YOU need to work at taking out the AA instedad of:
        10 spawn
        20 whore plane
        30 bomb
        40 reload
        goto 30
i am not actually one of these pro pilots... i do enjoy flying the planes tho as it should be in all battlefield games....but u and other unskilled ones kept on moaning until u had one of the most important elements of the bf2 genre nerfed beyond usefullness...

its not my fault that u cant use the AA to damage/deter/destroy then enemy air units... instead of whining u should ahev been doing something about it perhaps pick up the jet instead... but its easier to moan isnt it... and seeing as this is the "team" game u all wanted there should be no problem with not actually destroying the plane but giving the pilot something to think about when he comes to bomb u next....but wait a mnute non of u really care about teamwork its all points...

and now the air power has been nerfed u can all get in a tank and rack up some l337 points... then u can all moan and get the tanks nerfed...the next thing u know bf2 will be some ****, buggy joint ops style game cos u moaners removed the vehicle aspect...

this is battlefield, a vehicle based shooter... so stop fkin whining about the core game aspects....

As a ground pounder and horrible pilot with both jets and choppers I totally appreciated when there were good pilots on my team. They changed the balance of power. I've tried to master the art of flying but am just plain terrible at it, so I respect their skills.

The problem was when you had a team with great pilots going against a team with crap (or no) pilots. Horrible slaughter typically ensued. Your level of happiness or frustration depended on which end of the slaughter you were on. The AA was worthless against jets, but worked well enough (IMHO) against choppers. On chopper only maps if the airpower was balanced then the AA definitely had an effect on the outcome. If you could harass their airpower then your airpower could be supreme (assuming pilots of equal skill) which usually leads to a win. If you were against a team with better air than yours, AA was typically a futile endeavor. From what the elite pilots are saying post-patch, that scenario will still exist. Initially there was a bunch of crying, but it has subsided somewhat now that the top-guns found out they will still be effective after changing tactics a bit.

To some of you guys that said pilots are no skilled rapers. As an avid pilot, whenever someone says that to me in a server, I say "Get in the other plane and come stop me."

Exactly, they can't. They say planes take no "skillz" but most people can't fly planes well. If you weren't going 40-3 pre 1.2 or so in the plane round to round, you aren't a good pilot. Flying the plane took skills, and now takes even more skills. Likewise, anyone can get in the plane, fly around and not die, but that's not hard. Being able to kill people effectively is.

My suggestions to improve the current AA situation:

-Make stationary AA not respawn every 10 seconds, but either make it repairable or increase respawn time to like 1 min.

-Increase the flying ceiling. Allow planes to climb to like 10,000 feet. It won't give you an advantage against the ground, but it would improve air to air combat, and allow you to evade AA without giving you an advantage in raping them

Cheese- I see your point. Personally I hate it when pilots group up in one team so there wouldnt be any opposition to one -and-other. Many pilots however group up because its needed. For example I had a lot of great wingmen with me when we needed to group up against the oppositions air power. Bomber+Fighter I was an escort. Fighter+Fighter we were working against bomber and superior fighter. I also know a LOT of people do the same thing.

The reason of that slaughter was that the pilots were *******. Any decent pilot with selfrespect would at least try to be a pain in the ass. There were times I was bombing when a rookie pilot tried everything he could to get me off my bombing pattern. As a result- he didnt down me, but he decreased my kills 2 times compared to previous round.

Oakenfolds guide, if you have read it, I believe states- engage no matter what. Even if you cant down them- disrupt them, tick them off. Nobody likes dying but sometimes you have to be that duck that the hunter shoots at in order to let your fellow man do more damage.

                My other theory is:

Right now everyone is getting into the AA to see what all the fuss is about, and flying right now is at it's peak difficulty, because as pilots we are still adapting to the new aa, and everyone loves the AA.

In a couple weeks AA will probably be used less often as people get bored with it, and will only be occupied if the plane on the other team is a real problem..

Most Bf2 don't have the patience to sit their and help the team by defending the Air. Everyone wants to go out and be rambo.

My guess it that you have it exactly right. Same goes for the large number of snipers and support right now. People are just checking out the new stuff and many will go back to their old favorite way of playing.

Personally I enjoy doing AA on the chopper maps as an engineer. Usually there is AA near your uncap, so I can double as a wrench monkey for commander assets and take out the Spec Ops guys when I can. That's been my current m.o. lately. If they have weak airpower (or no pressure on assets) then I'll go for armor and armor/vehicle support.

Theres a simple fact really- AA isnt fun to use. Definitely less fun than flying a jet. Therefore people are less thinking about actually mastering it.

LOL if hes moaning, I've been fine just had a game came second with a silver medal, 53 points, over 26 kills and 7 deaths. Several were caused by AA several by me being an idiot and flyign into the enemy hangar when machine gunning all the camping plane whores. It was fun.

Here's something for you so called "skilled" pilots out there to read. Alot of you will say that it takes skill to fly around and bomb people and you're in a plane so you dont take flags but you're up there to help the team. I really don't think so. You might say that but the truth is, it's easier to get kills in the air and feel more special at the end of the round when you get gold with a 30:1 kill-death ratio. Sure it takes skills to be a great pilot but it doesn't take skills to look at a tank on the ground and drop it and kill him. or a DPV. I know it's easy to be up there because I do it too once in a while. What gripes everyone else that isn't a pilot is there they are skilled at what they do too. Different teamwork strategies to take a flag without getting shot/killed off. Capping a flag in a certain amount of time and making sure you aren't seen all at the same time. GREAT! Good job team! but then some little pilot (noob or skilled, doens't matter) comes down and blows everyone up. Pilot is happy. He thinks "whoa that was easier than being on the ground and blowing everyone else". that's why theres like 5 people wating for planes sometimes.

My point is now that groundpounders have a chance at the pilots, the pilots are ****ed. But that's because it's just a sudden change. You can avoid getting killed and change your strategy. You just have to get used to it. I mean serious did you install and play battlefield 2 on the first day and start pwning? No. You worked at it to get the skill you have. Keep on going. Just remember that some groundpounders stay alive because of THEIR skill. and it was so easy for THEM to be killed. I mean they don't even have countermeasures. So pilots still have advantage. So learn to use them properly.

Wrong, choppers take patience and thought to fly now; use the terrain and buildings as your cover. I just gunned for a chopper pilot on Sharqi and I had over 40 kills and only 7 deaths. 3 or 4 of those deaths were friendly fire.

Its all dependent on the situation, i.e. how much AA is used...

Look dude I know how to fly choppers, check my stats if don't believe me.

I get low, get behind buildings, hit flares...etc....doesn't matter when AA missiles are taking NINETY DEGREE TURNS!!!
