Re: PlaneWhore: yet another AA vs jet thread (renamed)

I just flew a jet as both USMC and MEC on the Zatar Wetlands map. As USMC, I snatched a gold at an overall 65 points, and as MEC, before I disconnected, I had 21 combat points and a shocking -19 teamwork points.

This brings to light some issues I have with the new rebalancing.

Yet again, helicopters lose out. I can easily destroy a helicopter in one or two runs now, no problem. After that, I can lame the helipads and get as many kills as I wish. Though, I never do that :).

I've had 4/5ths of full health, and been instantly destroyed by a missile. Is this something to do with the location damage, or vicinity of the detonation? It's happened a few times, and twice from friendly missiles, which brings me to the next point...

Missiles love friendlies. I managed to shoot down a friendly jet once, friendly helicopters three times, and who knows what else. Worst part is, is that the indicator comes up way too late. I was flying along at a reasonable altitude with 3/5ths of full health, when suddenly the indicator goes beserk, and half a second later I'm blown out of the sky, shot down by a friendly AA site.

But I really enjoy the ground infantry improvements.

whiner: I flew thousands of hours in all the previous arcade games like desert combat and BF42, and today some noob pilot killed me. let's nerf the A2A missile

my response: i fought thousands of hours in first person shooter games from quake 3 to rainbow 6, now my little brother killed me with a pistol, let's make it so you don't take damage when you reach certain rank

What the "good" pilots do not seem to get so far is that you need to be in a squad. support your squad wherever they want to attack. They will take out the AA for you. It just takes one AntiTank rocket to take an AA site. Talk with the other team members and ask for help when you need it. The possibility of being a rambo while in a jet seems to be gone. You need to change your gameplay style.

PlaneWhore... I watched his video the first day he posted it. As someone else said "he is good at what he does". but one thing that took my attention is that he used to move ANYWHERE without ANY fear. Why? because no one could even TOUCH him. Once he heard the lock warning he just turned around and took the guy on the AA. The AA, if it hit him, had to reload again before killing him.... that was impossible to do.

Also in one of his threads he said "The AA is fine" (before the patch) and he still insists on that. When I go through his posts I am still trying to figure out how he "tought" us how to take a jet with the AA. Also does that mean we could take him down if we knew his tips?

We, ground troops, had our share of suffering while being bombed. Unfortunately for you "good" pilots, it is not our turn if you do not adapt.

One reason why I rarely got in a jet is because of the large number of "pilots" waiting for it to respawn. I got in a jet if, and ONLY if, no one wanted it, which is very rare. Now I can enjoy flying with my Saitel X52 which has been been waiting for me on my desk for months.

I still do not see why a "noob" AA cannot take an "expert" pilot

Regarding the choppers.... we all know how the MEC chopper was in Sharqi.... now good chopper pilots need to think more beyond spawn camping/raping. there are a lot of terrans and buildings in all of the maps. choppers can be very sneaky and make a lot of surprises. The good chopper pilots are the ones who can benifit from the terrains and buildings. period!

wow, there's another reason why this game is better after the patch. No more half the team waiting for a jet when the other team captures all the flags and we lose. sweet.

Now I'll go and get that AA-badge that was impossible before :)

Yes, it was me who got the planes nerfed, and for that I apologize to all the other pilots who enjoyed flying them as much as I did. It is a disgrace that the only fighter plane available to my team, which is a rare and valueable asset, and commanded by someone of my infinite skill level

I saw this egotist quitting flying over this patch a mile away. He wouldn't want to risk ruining his precious lifelong K/D score.

PlaneWhore suggested in planetbattlefield forums that DICE makes the AA repairable instead of automaticly respawning after a preset amount of time. I like that idea. I hope DICE will consider this suggestion seriously.

Re: PlaneWhore: yet another AA vs jet thread (renamed)

Now we've got 1.2 patch, where no matter how good you are if you've got a missile lock tone and no flares, you're pretty much toast. No more do players have to think, adapt, and use technique when trying to down skilled aircraft pilots.

I'm having a great time watching all these flyboys whine.

Missle lock + no flares = pretty much toast
That made me laugh out loud, a big DUHHHH is all I can say to respond.

But so far in the dogfights I've been involved in planes have avoided my missles, gotten away and returned to kill me. I've fired missles from the AA gun on the ground and they didn't hit. I've had AA fired right at me in a chopper flying straight and level right at the AA site and thanx to flares they missed. So all this crap about being impossible to dodge just doesn't hold water. They are much better, if you are in a jet or helo, stay away from AA or get your ground troops to take them out. You could also line up on them and take them out yourselves, they are afterall bracket'd with a big green square for targeting ease...

Basically if someone runs right in front of you and you have them in ironsights and pull the trigger, they should have a 1% chance of living. If you fire a heet seeking missle with a lock at a jet they should have a 1% chance of living. drop flares and that may go up to 50%, but if you're locked and missles are tracking, you're basically in ironsights and except for a miracle the person on the sam should get the points for the kill. What's the big deal?

Planes are only worthless to people that have no idea how to fly them. Jets are defeating AA just as easy as before.

As a long time ground pounder, I bought a new joystick and had been learning to fly the jets the last couple weeks. While I wasn't getting ridiculous k:d ratios, I also wasn't getting shot down. If I could manage to get in a jet without a teammate killing me for it, I could stay up for nearly the entire round unless the other team had a decent pilot who could get on my butt and shoot me down.

I began to learn why I despised the jets so much while I was on foot. I chuckled at AA sites as I flew by and just turned to avoid the missles. No need for flares. Choppers and other jets were good target practice and I could fly around 50m off the ground with no worry of anything happening. A tank shot me? No problem, fly back and repair. AA, just dodge it and bomb the hell out of the carrier and then fly away to re-arm.

While flying around with impunity (unless another skilled pilot is up there to kill me) was fun for awhile, but the novelty was wearing off. I don't play the game to pad my own score and brag about how many kills I have. I play to win each round and find that I'm more helpful while on the ground.

I am thrilled about the improved AA and shortened dogfight times. I still plan on getting in the air from time to time and see how I do. It's a challenge and that is much better than just bombing everyone non-stop because nothing can hit you and when it does, it just makes your jet smoke a little.

I do feel sorry for the helo pilots. I hopped on a map briefly last night to see what the new patch was all about and took two choppers down within a matter of minutes. "That was easy...." I thought. Then it dawned on me that they were just sitting out in the open. Any chopper that wants to hover around in the open is fair game. Seek cover or die. I've been doing just that as a ground pounder for a long, long time. Nobody is invincible.

The days of flying anywhere without a care in the world are over. I'm not the best pilot out there and I'm excited to get in a jet and adapt. Make the game more entertaining knowing that you can actually be killed.

Agreed. I'm not a plane jock, and I agree with the guy. He hit the nail right on the head: You could down a plane if you put forth the effort, but most people put their effort into whining and stupid forum posts because they, quite honestly, suck at the game and refuse to adapt. It's the same reason the Blackhawk was nerfed, it's the same reason all air vehicles were nerfed, it's the same reason a gunner is screwed out of getting flag cap point, it's the same reason, you can't even fire a bullet (no matter how inaccurate it should be, which they didn't think of that fix) while your feet are off the ground. That reason? The majority in BF2 are unadaptive pansies who won't change their playstyle for even 5 minutes to overcome something, and I think anyone with that mindset DESERVES to die in the game and deserves to get killed over and over, until they learn their lesson that they can't run at everything full force with an M203 or medic gun. Think, or die. It's that easy, well, not the way BF2 is going. Now it's more like think or whine and get it nerfed, which means the think aspect is quickly disappearing.

The single best thing choppers can do to improve their survivablity is to get behind trees we targeted. I used AA alot pre- and post-1.2 patch and trees always disengage a lock when they're between you and a target, even if its just 2 or 3 trees. Also if theres enough of them, they can act as a shield too against any missiles already fired. There aren't always static buildings or hills to hide behind, but theres almost always trees of some sort.
