Re: My 5 year old daughter plays!

I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter, no she doesn't play, but I know she wants to just because I do. Honestly, I can't wait until the day I can play a lan game with my daughter since my wife won't play because she's tired of them after working on them all day as an IT. lol Dude, don't listen to the negative comments. Parents are the ones that determine how children are raised, not movies, music, books, or video games. Obviously you spend time with your daughter and that's what's important.

Not to steal the topic, but my daughter is very smart for her age. She's known all of her colors since she was 18 months, she can count to 10, read half the alphabet, knows her shapes, been potty trained before she turned 2, and the list goes on and on. She's done all this without educational tv shows. She has only started watching Dora and Blue's a couple of months ago, and sometimes Big Bird. Usually she just watched sports with her daddy. So it doesn't matter what kids watch or whatever, as long as they have involved parents that TEACH their children what they need to know about life instead of passing it along to someone or something else, they will be fine. I listen to music and movies with explicit lyrics all the time with her around, but she doesn't repeat anything. The key to a child's upbringing (can't believe I used that word) is their parent's involvement. All you single people out there remember that.

didn't expect that much of a response. (especially the negative ones) Normally she plays for maybe an hour at a time or so and mixes it up with teen titans, barbie, hello kitty and my little pony. the reason she likes it is twofold... first.. her daddy.. (ME) was in the Marines for the last 8 years and to her.. having been surrounded by the images of weapons and tanks her entire life.. this is just another day at daddy's office. (incidently now I sell TV Advertising) Secondly, she spends more time on single player just flying around because she loves the jets/helos.

She has never and will never play gta or anything like that on my computer. as a matter of fact.. she has played HL, HL2 <-- all the way through and beat it on her own, CS, UTK2004, but never doom 3. I think that would scare her.

Now as to how gaming has already helped her to pwn her class at school.. she is FIVE and already can use the computer better than anyone in her class.. its helping her to read at an accelerated rate as well. Her math skills and cognative reasoning are astounding.

I attribute some of this to her exposure to video games. She is also learning to cope with defeat, unfairness and overall asshatery from other people. In my assesment, she is going to grow up a well-adjusted very smart (and beautiful) girl ready to face life head-on.

very well put m8, since im only an uncle not a parent i can only see my set of opinions on this but as for most of your post i think you are totally correct on this matter (even the doom3, i was jumpy playing that an im 26 lol i know , i know but some bits were very tense). luckily we live in an age where we can decide whats best rather than being told.

*Sir sponge - sorry for raggin on you, i just hate when others jump on people thinking its the moral highground when all they do is exacerbate an extremely minor issue (the real issue about violence etc in games leading to crime is more simple i think. "whatever happened to crazy?"...... Chris Rock on guns in schools)

Mrs you forgot to say our son is a BF veteran. He played BFV before BF2 and he was only 2yrs old. In BFV he also likes to fly the heli's and the planes and would take off fly around the map for a while then jump out and parachute down. He would drive the tanks/cars/boats etc that is what the game is to him not killing other people, this is what you need to remember. He doesn't play the game like we do. He plays it to drive/fly the vehicles.

but i like your idea that all the chinese ppl are bad because they are comunist, and all the middle east ppl are bad because they dont exist ( )
Biff I was referring to Red China and it's Communist dictated government state; not the Chinese people in General. And I was trying to take the MEC out of the equation all together since there is no such Army. Please don't contradict me

Im am not gonna bother arguing this crap on a gaming site...

I dont agree with your decision, I have read all your posts which "Redeams" (spellcheck?) most of your OP...

I have a 6 year old Daughter, and 1 year old son, and neither is gonna play any game with explicit realistic violence in it before I find them ready for it (Currently I have put this limit to 10 years old)...

It IS a FECKING FACT (this is not for the OP) that children do --NOT-- have the same sence of reality as adults, they CAN NOT tell the difference between fact and fiction as well as adults can...

I was one of theose kids who played Pacman, Space invaders, etc. as a kid, while all the mighty child psychologists screamed "terrible youth", and all that crap...

but ffs... ppl are comparing Doom with Pacman now. Get real.

Computer games is great for developing hand to eye coordination etc.. Just give a game which dont expose them to violence (and I mean violence that include pointing a very life like sort of weapon on a very lifelike human figure and killing it, not seeing some cartoon figure whacking some cartoon mole with a hammer).

Now of course, if she's playing the game for ten hours a day or something then that isn't so good. But careful monitoring and guidance while she's playing probably isn't harmful..
I agree. But the point of BF2 (or any other shooter) is to KILL.

I agree with you.. Young kids should not be playing violent realistic looking *adult* videogames like BF2.. Or do we let them watch adult movies aswell now? Imho it's all the same, adult stuff that should stay adult stuff.. Ratings on movies and games are there for a reason you know.. And there's plenty of videogames outthere that are well suited for small kids, let them play that if you really want to train their hand-eye coordination etc.. Your kid won't be missing out on anything when he/she is not allowed to play games like BF2, it's for their own good even..

But I guess some people just have different standards towards sex, violence and raising kids etc..

Re: My 5 year old daughter plays!

My 4yr old doesn't play BFV and BF2 the way its meant or intended to be played ie to kill or be killed. He doesn't play it the same way we do. To him its a game where he can drive/fly vehicles nothing more, nothing less.

So he plays the game differently to what the poster of this thread has his 5yr old play it.

In fact I would be more worried if he played when he was 10 and played the game the way its intended to be played rather than playing at 4 and the way he plays the game.

I would never allow him to watch adult movies, nor play games like doom 3.
