I can spell though. "cousin" and "San Andreas". Pick up a book sometime.

in addition.. she only plays when I am in the room. I am always looking over her shoulder. I picked her name for her because I wanted people to know they just got pwnd by a 5 yr old girl.

So you're saying your daughter carries a firearm? Maybe you just had no defense for what she said. I might have responded with, my daughter would run away screaming and or scream and the run away from someone who is her physical superior.

Secondly, why not name her 5yrOld or something else like that? Why include her name? That one really has me interested.

As long as you have a parent doing their job in teaching a child the difference between right and wrong, reality and fantasy, then you really don't have much to worry about as far as a child playing violent games or watching violent movies.

It is when these violent games and movies become a childs source of influence without a counter, that a child can be influenced to be more aggressive and violent in an uncontrolled manner..

And in this case, i don't see the parent being irresponsible in the raising of his daughter. What i do see is a few people being a little jumpy in their assessment of the situation, and believing too much of the biased reports on the subject of violence in games and media...

Let's face it, parents and parenting are the key to raising quality children. The quality of a parent is not based on the ability to say Yes or No, but the ability of a parent to explain right and wrong as it pertains to what the child is exposed to on a daily basis..

WOW...I really cant see a problem with her playing the game, my son(4yrs) plays sometimes, mostly singleplayer but he has jumped on the server with me at times. He loves to fly the jets & choppers, drive boats, buggys and skijets. He knows the difference between the enemy and his team and even the difference between his team and his squad. He knows the difference between reality and a game.
He usually plays for approx 15min before he gets bored with it all and moves on to something else, building a sandcastle, playing with his toy cars, reading a book, roleplaying with his toys or watching some telly.

I dont think the violence in the game is an issue either, if you have ever watched some childrens programs/cartoons you would know that they themselves have violence in them or violent undertones. Thats where it comes down to good parenting, it doesnt matter what your child is exposed to in life, what matters is how you teach your child to react to the situation. If you teach your child the difference between right and wrong, good and bad and the basic morals that you live by I dont think playing a game for 15 mins every so often or being exposed to violence will make much of an impression on them.

The aspect of having a young child 5 or under in a room full of strangers being "groomed" is one I understand the meaning of, but I think its probably more of a worry for a child that can actually read. If your child cant read, there is no way they can be groomed by strangers. Further more on that Im sure the original poster, like myself, is sitting right next to his/her child whilst they are in there. As for the search for "dress dolly up" and finding inappropriate sites, Id suggest enabling parent control on your pc search engine. No inappropriate sites will come through if this is enabled and every "good" parent knows this

Ultimately though its up to each parent how they raise their children, all we can do as a society is hope they do the job justice.

..... as well as protecting our children from being exposed to things that are beyond their mental grasp. It's not rocket science, just good moral values.

I guess if the kid is stupid you might want to be overly protective, but kids are not stupid, in general.. A child is capable of learning right and wrong from the very beginning of life. The parent has to be capable of covering all the basis.

What we have now is an inability of parents to teach their children.. Saying "No" and/or shielding your child from life, won't insure the child is a upstanding, non-violent citizen anymore than vioent video games is going to make a child into a murderer..

Families are no longer a man and wife setting like it was portaryed in the 50's, with a working dad and a stay at home mom. Most families have two working parents. And then you have the 1 parent families, which makes the necessary parenting of a child even harder..

I’m sorry... how many kids do you have? There is no one barometer for qualifying the intellect of a 5 year old child. Did I mention the word child? Just to be clear, you're reading my use of the word "child" right? Would you let a 5 year old drive a car if they could work the peddles and steer? Would you let a 5 year old do your taxes for you? How about cleaning your gun? Do I need to go on?

Each parent has right to raise a child the way they see fit. Some kids end up in mental hospitals, some grow to be the doctors tending to them. I choose not to let my 5 year old kid see graphic images of violence. I think it's in bad taste to expose such a young mind to images that can be pornographic in nature (hence the corpse humpers thread) and some people may think it's cute that a 5 year old died in the game and then was humped by some freak who thinks it's cute or funny to do it to people he kills in the game.

Were not talking about teenagers here, were not even talking about children almost pre-teen. Were talking about a 5 year old!! What the hell is wrong with you people? It's not cute. It's not funny. It's sad.

Show me one shred of evidence that a child of 5 years can handle on an emotional level, the type of violence they are exposed to in an FPS. Point me in the direction of one noted Psychiatrist who states that a 5 year old can deal with things of this nature. This isn't about how smart or stupid someone is. Anyone who bring that into the discussion should not be allowed to speak. It's about mental and emotional aptitude. That does not equate to IQ, genius. Someone with a PHD can be a serial killer too. Wake up.

Well, you are starting to act childish here. How about we chill on the cheap shots here a little?

Let's see, if a parent was supervising a 5 year old while cleaning a gun, i would not have a problem with it. Cleaning a gun doesn't involve bullets if the parent is doing their job..

Appreantly i should have been more clear in my response and not hinted to intelligence by using the word "stupid". My use of "stupid" was to suggest that a inability of a child to grasp and understand a situation would lead to stupid actions on the part of the child.. But a child is capable, if taught, to understand and make logical decisions. But they do have to be taught..

What we have here is you deciding that this mans' 5 year old daughter can't grasp the fantasy vs reality diffeences in BF2, based solely on age. As i can assume you've never met him or his daughter.. I have seen kids older than 5 do stupid and violent acts, supposedly based on what they saw on a video or wrestling or what have you. So, either the kid was defective or the parenting was lacking..

And yes, someone with a PHD can become a serial killer, because we don't know what causes a person to become a serial killer. But most would say that you have to be rather smart to get away with so many kills over time.. And i promise you, Ted Bunday, John Wayne Gacy and the likes were never into violent video games.. But how about staying on topic. You are jumping to ridiculous examples to try and prove your point...

well I don't think this game should be played by a 5 year old. I'm not a Dad, but if I were my kid would be playing something more on the lines of educational and maybe some action games targeted towards children. there are plenty of other games out there to improve hand eye cordination and problem solve to help flourish the mind as you say.

It really bothers me the lack of parental control I see with children these days. People these days are so desensitized. Go to a horor movie and watch when someone gets killed brutally. How does everyone react? laughter what a world we live in today. Its parents like the OP that cause this problem. allowing their children to watch anything they want, play violent games...its such a shame.

Don't even tell me to get off my "high Horse" either. I like all this stuff but I'm an adult. I was tought good morals and values growing up. I'll do the same for my children if and when I have them.

This is all academic. I am not suggesting the child cannot have some grasp to it being a fantasy. I am saying it's not IMHO in the chlids best interest to be put in a situation where they have to decide whats real and whats not as it relates to a violent online video game. One that exposes them to both foul behaviour and more foul language. One where racist remarks and poor grammar rule the in-game chat. Teaching your child how to do something bad and then telling them it's bad? lol... ok.

Let them sort out fantasy with cartoons and toys. Don't show them how to kill someone online and then gloat over it. Don't put them into that situation.

All my personal view. It's not my job to tell someone how to raise their kid. On that note, I will gladly bow out of the conversation.

i'm in favour of kids playing violent games, the more ppl try to forbidden things to the kids, the more messed up they are when they grow up.

                              THATS a fact.

and if a kid goes around shooting everyone in school, thats not because of videogames, thats 1st: because they have access to guns (usually from their parents who didnt want them to see violent things... ironic) and second, its because of the rebel thinking kids have these days that makes them hate everything and everyone.

games fdont have anything to do with it, games are just an excuse to blame someone else for the bad parenting of forbidding everything.

so i say, LET THE KIDS PLAY!

btw. i saw the stats :) she is really skilled, i dont play in american servers, but it would be nice to find her playing in a server hehehe, i think its cute :p

ok.. apparently I need to clarify because some people can't comprehend a joke.

no my 5 yr old does not carry a weapon in real life. The "pistol whip him and take his candy" was meant to be funny.

She KNOWS what to do when confronted by a stranger. We practice it just like we practice what to do if she sees something bad like a fire in the house or something else bad happen. She can dial 911 in the event of an emergency.

My house happens to be one where mommy stays home with the children and daddy works.

During the day she is not allowed to get on my computer without me in the room. Normally sitting right next to her anyhow. She cannot read what people are saying and about the worst thing I can think of from this game is when she yells "Hey gimmie a ride" on our way to school or says daddy look we can go get that flag. (in front of the school) All of which is cute in my opinion. Of course I explain the game is not real and she knows this.

By the way.. the Americans/British are ALWAYS the good guys. She knows this. When she is playing the Chinese or MEC she refers to herself as a "bad guy"

I am proud of my daughter and would never let her do something I thought was detrimental to her development.

I thought the original post was a cute story. Some daddy/daughter time and thought the majority of people would think its amazing that a 5 yr old could play as well as she does. good to hear I split the community in half. lol.

Oh yeah.. her favorite toy for christmas was an aircraft carrier with some action figures, a jet, helo etc. Nothing like seeing a bunch of army guys riding "my little ponies" into battle.

I think my next goal is when she starts writing/reading getting her to call them "my little pwnys"
