Im sure that most of the people who moan on about jets N choppers just cant fly them. Its a simple bitterness. Just sort our the AA. Leave the jet armour and stuff. Same goes with the Blackhawk. When 6 kills are up for grabs in a second, do you really expect it to be handed to you on a plate? And with 6 people in it, of course its gotta be hard.
The secret of sorting out the blackhawk is TEAMWORK. Even a few men shooting their guns at it can turn a blackhawk away from base raping.

I dont agree about how the stats and ranks are to blame for all the ills. CS didnt have rank/stats apart from wot you see at the end of the round. But that didnt stop people having the same $hitty attitude.

If the moaners had it there way they would want to take out a fully loaded BH with a single gun clip. Which would mean that air skies would be empty. Now who wants that?

If they leave they leave. I play on BF2Combat.net, it's played the way battlefield should be played. Check it out, if you want to play in squads have real strategy, etc...

About the whining over Aircraft, AA, and all that. Air superiority wins battles, this plays true in real life just as it should in a game. I'm not the best pilot in the world and ground pound more than anything. But people need to realize the game isn't just about capping flags and moving on. It's about groundpounders, air superiority, defense, offense.

Hey I've been in many games where the other team has stolen our attack choppers, aircraft and our black hawk, and we got whipped. All because everyone was worried about capping that next flag instead of protecting our resources and letting our pilots get in the air to counter their pilots. This is like a real battle.

If people don't like playing then leave, I could care less. I'm going to continue to get better and have a good time.

The difference between the previous BF games and this one, the ground AA worked. Frankly, the ground AA in this game sucks and I am saying that from the point of view of someone that flys whenever a map has jets. And I can guarantee you that I am not a newb at flying as I have been doing it in the BF series of games and DC, I'm frankly just not worried about getting shot down by anything because the ground AA is feeble at best and generally speaking, most of the people flying in this game aren't worth a **** at dogfighting.

The US must have had flags throughout the round or the MEC weren't shooting back. Flags and kills equal ticket drain. No flags and kills equal high individual scores.

Actually we both ended the round with a score something like 90-2-50-0. I'm sorry you don't believe it, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

              1. yes, I want a "gound" based FPS
              2. I've never tried "Conter-Strike"

Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore

The threadstarter highlights the attitude of many people that just ruins good games.

Ok, BF2 is an arcade style game, but that you can't still have realistic elements. How many planes have been shot down by AA nests in real life? I don't know, but it's an extremely low percentage of all the planes that are shot at, and they're not all supersonic jets. If there's somebody flying a mig 29 at 10 feet above the ground, doing every single aerial manouvre known to man....... tell me why you think it should hit it's target.

Boohoo aircraft are too strong. Boohoo. Get a squad that knows how to play the game, maybe two AT's, a medic, a support, they'll make short work of choppers. Even attack choppers. "Skilled" chopper pilots who don't just hover but instead circle flags are easy to take out. Watch the guy fly for about a minute, figure out his pattern, then fire AT rockets at him and watch him burn. Or you could just use a jet to kill him. Everyone complains about the jets being all powerful, except for chopper pilots because they know that almost all jet pilots will just rooooaaar past them, but good jet pilots can take out a chopper no prob in one pass. Easy peasy.

Both teams are given jets on maps that have them, so there's no reason to complain about the inclusion of jets. Sometimes I just get up in the air and chase enemy jets around, maybe fire one burst of machine gun rounds once a minute. Doing this dissuades them from bombing your team, and often ends up in them dying by friendly AA... oh yeah that "useless" AA rarely misses if you know how to take advantage of it.

Ooh planes have huds. Oh no! It's only a modern warfare game, I expected it to have no technology in it at all! Oh woe is me!

If you don't like planes and helos you've got a few options. You can learn how to fly, and not bomb ground targets since you hate it so much, just go after other slicks and fast movers. You can play maps without jets (16p maps, karkand, sharqi, mashtuur, dragon valley 32, fushe pass 32, shongua.... CUSTOM MAPS!!!!). You can play maps without attack helos (16p maps, karkand, sharqi, mashtuur, fushe pass, custom maps). You could learn how to use AT to kill choppers (aka learning how to play fps games) or you can learn what the sound of an incoming f15 is and know when to run (I do it all the time and watch my teamates get blown to pieces). Or you could be a petty fool and just not play the game ever again because the vanilla version isn't to your suiting, even though it would make more sense to just not play any more until mods come out.

Everything in the game has a counterbalance [except smg's just suck]. DAO + other shotguns < all other guns at anything other than point blank. Eryx > the underside of a chopper. M95 > a chopper lining up the gunner for a kill. The human mind > sniper rifles. Tanks > sniper rifles. Tanks < a smart spec ops or AT. and on and on and on

                  Know what?
I'm actually at the point now where I hope certain people start quiting. Make way for new people and folks who like the game.
It's not like they wouldn't be replaced. Player counts are high enough to be stable for a good long time. The comunity may be disfunctional, but it's healthy.

So... do what's fun. If BF2 isn't any fun for you, go right ahead and quit! Go find something that you enjoy doing and do it! Maybe go outside or something. Maybe come back when the patch is out so you can try it out, have fun, get annoied, and come whing on the forums again. Then, of cource, you most certainly quit again.
                  :p

                  I'll wait here.

Or you can play your own mod where air is invincible. Go at it. Leave BF2 for the rest of us that have articulated in excrutiating detail why the air is significantly unbalanced. Cuz even if I got to the jet first, laying waste to the guys on the ground with very little chance of being shot down is simply not fun. What's the point? I didn't pay 40 bones to fly around and bomb helpless people on the ground.

Firstly what a ridiculous statement. You should go back and edit that out of your post.

Secondly, is there any stats to suggest people are 'leaving in droves', and dislike the game? I've seen no evidence of it. There is a large percentage of the BF2 community who enjoys the gameplay and therefore doesn't need to complain in forums when things don't go their way.

And thirdly, despite the debate about 'real-life' air power etc etc, on 64 player maps there are 4 people flying around increasing their oh so important scores (rather than helping the team to victory) and 60 people on the ground. So it stands to reason that since approx 85% of players are grunts, the gameplay is very unbalanced.

There is nothing wrong with a good pilot winning a round thru teamwork and skill. Guys that continually do circuits over the carrier then around the enemy flags (and uncaps) should be playing on single player mode.

There are so many reasons. I met another guy the other day, said it was his last day of playing, all he did was revive the people on wake who got repeadtly owned by a Jet Pilot, the guy killed maybe 10 people in one go and kept on killing for the whole round. He said it was just one of the reasons he was quiting.

**** happens, just a lot in this game.

Jets do not decide the outcome of the round. Why would they? Yes, planes can kill 1-3 players in one swoop, which is pretty small amount of 32 players. I can't write a long article why they do not decide, its just that clear. Clear as Crystal.

I didn't say it didn't happen, I said it was almost impossible the way you described it.

From your scores, neither of you even had 50 kills. One of you only had 25. Between the two of you, you might have had 80. If it was a 32 player server, that's 5 deaths per person per side. If it was a 64 person server, it wasn't even 3 deaths per side. Those aren't numbers that cause a ticket drain, especially with the amount of tickets on the 64 player map. Second, you said the other team was well organized and held the flags. In looking back at you first post, you said 64 player map and you slowly earned the win. If you didn't control any of the flags on the 64 player map, the ticket drain would be pretty fast for them. If all the statements you made were accurate, there is no way you beat the other team just because of the planes.

The reality is you both point farmed against a lousy team. My guess is you had many or most of the flags and base raped their airfield (i.e. shot everything down before they left the ground). Even then, neither of you had very high scores for camping. The person who had ~45 kills did ok, but ~25 kills is hardly pwning another team.

If you actually understood how the ticket drain worked in the game, you would see the improbability of your story. Exagerating the facts doesn't make your point more believable.

The guys got the same problem i had with bf2.

Ive got an Audigy 2 zs sound card.

When i had my sound setting set to use Hardware acceleration i couldnt hear any tanks or vehicles or firing practicaly.
So i went to options and just told it to play it in software.

Ive just recently started replaying bf2 after a several month long absence, i love it.
Everytime i go to the server list theres 100+ servers that have upwards of 50 people constantly at any time of the day.

Infact, compared to back when i played bf2 originaly, theres more players.

And jets etc dont totaly wtfpwnz the entire game.... get a decent sqaud and all 6 of you work as a team...

Find a decent group of people who play bf2 regularly and regularly get to together as a sqaud, I do this with people at my regular forums... we all just join a specific server and play away.
