Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore

It's not fun anymore? Good lord, I've been under this delusion that I've been having more and MORE fun with the game. I mean, wow, just because I focus on what I'm doing and don't give a rat's rear orifice about who's making the big kills in the planes, it doesn't give me a right to enjoy playing the game does it?
I really must remember to be all worried about what other people are doing and let that annoy me to the point of destroying and entertaining pastime!
Thank you oh so much for setting me straight in that matter! Without this vital post, I might have been tempted to continue enjoying the hella outta BF2.
I agree...quit worrying about the stats and have fun. If planes and choppers are getting you down...try a different tactic to taking them out...try team work...have fun...that is what the games are for.
Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore
The original post nails it on the head. This game rocks, but what screws it up is the domination by jets. It's too bad, because it never had to be that way. The only way to shoot down a jet is with another jet. Is that what the designers had in mind?
Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore
The game needs AA that will make the helo/jet fly away with their tales between there legs as quickly as possible. Instead we're presented with AA that makes the pilot stop....turn around....line you up...then kill you.

If the pilot is on the enemy team...yeah.
Unless you're idea of fun is starring up at clouds and seeing what animals they look like.
all u can do is practice...
Practice with AA? Last time I checked the missle is doing all the work, and that thing never practices (and is quite a teamkiller).
However, I disagree BF2 is getting less fun. Yes, until airpower is drastically changed, they will become more and more powerful, because skill with AA missles can't be improved. When you're a tank driver, for example, you won't simply do better as you play longer. Why? Because other people are practicing ways to take you down. However, there's no skill involved in taking down a jet...just luck...and a heck of a lot of it. I mean, c'mon, any damage you do to a jet with flak it will easily repair on its way back to the airfield/carrier. BUT there seem to be less idiots nowadays. Yesterday, I was playing Karkand and we had the back base while the enemy had the bases nearby. So I planted some mines by the trainwreck. Some of our tanks were driving down that bridge and saw them and (find a soft place to land because you might faint) went on defense instead! That's right, even though I was "blocking their way" (you know, because only those on your team have vehicles that can move), they didn't run them over and punish, or throw a grenade at it. They accepted the fact that I was limiting the mobility of both teams for the better of ours. The best part is, shortly later, an enemy drove over them. I don't know how it happened since enemy vehicles are incapable of moving in a map, but it happened! And people seem to be punishing less in general. The gameplay may be getting a bit worse, but the sportsmanship is better. Not perfect though (I recall someone named MercMarine on that same server on the same day using his powers as commander simply to supply himself with health and n00b tube grenades so he could camp our base and wrack up a super k/d ratio)

Nah, the planes will still dominate because the people causing the aircraft to be nerfed aren't those in them, but the people complaining about it. Fact: The majority of people in BF2 would rather complain and get something nerfed because they died from it, rather than find a way to counter it.
Finally, someone who can reveal the secret of downing jets with AA!!! Please do tell: How do we counter jets aside from using other jets?
Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore
I agree, I think the whole aircraft scenario is absurd, before I was in a stinger, on wake island, there was a blackhawk that had been raping us, locked onto it, he deployed his flares, I shoot twice, and the missiles just fly off completely off course? Wtf?? I even locked onto him few more times, in total I shot 6sure-coursed missiles at the chopper, not one single missile hit it, I wasn't doing anything wrong, and it just drove me crazy that this was a perfect situation when the chopper should easily be taken out but it never happened.

There's no one secret to it, but I can give you one word that is key: persistance.
But like I said, which you clipped out of my post when you quoted me, the AA missiles will NEVER be anywhere near effective using the tracking systems as they are unless they overhaul the tracking system code itself or make the missiles explode when they get CLOSE to the jet instead of score a direct hit.
Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore
I do agree with the initial post, although I still have a lot of fun playing BF2. I tend to avoid the servers where everyone id just running Rambo, pilots are pwning, and there is generally no command/teamwork going on.
Try something different like 21CW, and soon there will be a bunch of great mods. Obviously you enjoy BF a lot of you can take the time to post your concerns...

You need to either raise your volume, get headphone or get a better soundcard.
I hear vehicles from around corners and down the road all the time...and I'm not using headphones.
As far as the original post...
I only agree to the point of the AA being useless.
The next patch stated they will lower all aircraft hitpoints and increase the missle tracking (Again:hmm: )
Lower aircraft hitpoints will mean that you will be able to down aircraft quicker with Guns (and maybe 1 missle to disable a jet).
I like this except for 1 thing. Currently FAV's and the like can down a chopper quicker than ANY AA in the game. This will only get worse unless they balance the damage that those weapons do to aircraft.
Out side of that I actually thin the Airpower is quite balanced. It's just that it has no real counters.
And I do think reloading should either take longer or or you should be made to land. Biggest problem with that is you become a major target while your reloading. Although not un-realistic, it would be bad for gameplay.
Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore
i agree the game isnt fun anymore, i had to leave the game for 3 months do to moves and crap, and i was excited to get back but i been realizing im not having fun, with all the glitches and idiots that play it isnt fun anymore at all, except for stunts mod and a few other mods.
i personally think it was the stats that ****ed this game up so much, everyone is so concerned about having good stats they forget to have fun, same with the jet whoring, i think people would get bored of raping a base for points if it didnt matter. I mean dont people get bored of playing the same maps over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, i love trying out new maps, only problem is nobody plays them cause all they care about is their damn stats!!!!!!!!!!

I also agree chaps:) But as somebody whos BF2 gameplay is firmly grounded, it has to be said that there is little to no defence against a good jet pilot. Choppers you can take down with 2 well aimed tank shells, few gunners on 50s', AT squad...whatever. As it is, the Jets seems to be geared towards more dogfighting to occupy the 'good' pilots, but with little/no defence on the ground the kills must be 2 easy to turn down. Doesnt bother me tbh, that flying game is no breeze plus its all good fun eh:)
When you do actually get1 with AA...all the more satisfying.
Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore
I think the biggest thing that would "fix" aircraft is not have the aircraft HUD show every vehicle. It doesn't do that in a real fighter unless you use FLIR or ground radar to lock onto it. I think only the F-15 and SU-34 should be able to do that and only then with a WSO (backseater). Otherwise pilots will have to find targets visually. That would equalize the jets and the AAA tanks.
