That depends on how much system RAM you have. If someone has 1.5GB RAM and SF is eating about 1.5GB, then doing this may make performance worse.

I have got 1 gb ram. Today i played ~3 hours and noticed a improvement. :ar15: :nod: I will get another gig ram soon.
Maybe the improvement will be greater then.

I have 2 GB and I get the stutter only when piloting an attack chopper in the SF maps.

I certainly recommend 2 GB of RAM anyway..but it certainly won't fix this problem unless you couple it with lower settings..which goes against many of the reasons for GETTING the extra RAM

Just want to add that Wife and I have both had problems with sound lag/stuttering since the previous patch that changed many of the vehicle sounds in the game.

This problem also seems to creep across to NFS:MW since they are using alot of the same code in both 3d engines. Same (blocky) shadows are in both games, anyways. And on BOTH wifes and mine computers we get horrible hitching/sound lag in NFS:MW when certain sounds pop up.

I play lag free on all high 6xAA :) Is it just nvidia people who have problems?

Thats everything in my case I guess plus the DVD drives.Only problem I have with my computer is it doesn't like waking up, I get 2 BSOD screens every morning

I did get the gay looking shadows after the patch.

try telling that to my 2 gigs of ram.

I have 2GB of fast RAM and have never had stuttering on BF2, or any other game, until after I installed 1.12

This is not a machine specification issue, although some people with lower spec'ed machines may experience similar symptoms which will only confuse this issue. So.. if you're a low-spec'ed PC-owning hermit then please dont bother posting here, this thread is for the discussion of a real issue affecting almost all players regardless of machine spec :p

These are two things i adjusted and it helped my FPS, or maybe I just thought it helped, but i will say it anyway.
I adjusted the AGP aperature size for my Vid card in my bios(for those with AGP) from 64 to 128. Some may even get away with 256, but when i did, had some graphical errors (I have 6800 GT 256)
Another thing i did that helped, i have an Audigy card, and selected for "REDERER" to hardware, rather than software.
2 gigs or ram helps a lot too.

You should always set your sound renderer to hardware if your hardware supports it (and Creative almost always does these days). That alone should give you a significant boost.

You should always set your sound renderer to hardware if your hardware supports it (and Creative almost always does these days). That alone should give you a significant boost.

Actually, selecting Hardware will decrease your fps compared to software, by about 3-5 fps. I benchmarked this a while ago and the relative results for High audio quality using Software as the base were:

Software: 0 fps
Hardware (using BFOpenAL.dll wrapper as supplied by Dice): -5 fps
Hardware (replacing BFOpenAL.dll w/OpenAL router dll): - 3 fps

But Hardware audio rendering gives you noticeably better audio quality compared to software, especially if you use the OpenAL router for BFOpenAL.dll which will get you native hardware support via ct_oal.dll vs. generic hardware support via Direct3D.

I have a Audigy 2 ZS Gamer and when I set my audio renderer to hardware, I can play for a few minutes, then it goes into a buzz and locks up my computer. Anyone else have this issue?

We at DICE and EA are committed to on-going support for Battlefield 2. We're pleased to see that so many of you are still regularly playing the game and continuing to support both the game and the community with some great mods. We're also big fans of the machinimas so keep them coming (MINE - you guys rock!).

We wanted to let you know that we're already hard at work on a post-1.12 update. While we can't go into details about it yet, rest assured that we're checking the forums, listening to our customer support teams and working on the features that YOU'VE asked for.

As soon as we can give more concrete details, we will. Just know that we're all 100% into making BF2 the very best that it can be.

As part of our ongoing support for Battlefield 2 and the community, we're also going to be releasing a new version of our editor.

This is a beta version of the editor and as such comes unsupported. However, we're sure you'll be happy with the additional functionality this tool will give you eager modders.

We'll be releasing it to a few mod teams first imminently, closely followed by a public release in a few weeks' time.
