Re: Possible BF2 SF / 1.12 Performance Fix

I have started a thread on the EA UK BF2 Forums about this stuttering and Lost connection issue. Post your complaints and support here to get something done about it

If you have ONBOARD audio, setting it to hardware will more than likely result in a fps decrease.

If you have a supported PCI audio card, it should result in an increase...

BUT...this is DICE we're talking about so ANYTHING is possible

      Thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah, I was surprised at first, but after spending some more time w/Software audio it became pretty clear that the game doesn't do nearly as much in Software mode compared to Hardware mode. There are fewer voices for sure, plus sub-par EAX-like effects.

I don't get stuttering its the fps drop that kills me,with all setting on high,2x AA and 1280x1024@75hz and ultra settings on sound,i'm lucky to break 20fps
But if i lower my settings to 1280x960@75hz and all settings on high,2x AA, except Dyanmic shadows,Dyanmic lighting and lighting,on meduim i can come out with 35-40 in heavy areas and 70 plus if there's nothing around me.
Same in BF2 Vanilla, working fine before patch had everything on high and 1280x1024@75hz and never went below 80fps

I supposed I could try 1280x960 and let you know if I notice a difference.

The lag while flying a chopper was as bad as EVER today while testing on a nearly empty Leviathan server.

The funny thing was, after I got out of the Apache and fly for a minute in the MEC Mi-8, the lag was gone. I'm not sure if it was coincidence and it was simply time related or whether flying in another chopper had anything to do with it, but the lag was magically gone when I got back in the Apache. I left the server and came back and the lag was still gone.

Thats everything in my case I guess plus the DVD drives.Only problem I have with my computer is it doesn't like waking up, I get 2 BSOD screens every morning

I did get the gay looking shadows after the patch.
Ya never know! Because I only have a Radeon 9800 XT, I obviously can't play with 6xAA but I do play with 1024x768@85 res with custom med/high settings and 2xAA and I never get in game lag, night maps or not. My FPS is nothing to brag about either but it's playable. I also don't own a Creative audio product either, its a HDA Digital XMYSTIQUE 7.1 Dolby DIGITAL LIVE! card.

I've linked to this thread in a few others and it the fix i first posted does seem to be helping quite a few people, particularly when they get sound stuttering since the patch. Please post if you have any success, as if we can prove what 'helps' then EA can fix it faster.

Re: Possible BF2 SF / 1.12 Performance Fix

I have done everything. Updated my drivers, lowered the settings, switched the audio from hardware to software and even UNINSTALLED and REINSTALLED both BF2, SF AND the patch.

                  I am still getting 15 - 16 FPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If EA doesn't come out with that post 1.12 patch within the next week, I'm going to reverse the charges on my credit card for SF and go buy Call of Duty 2.

The time and energy to fix this is simply becoming a full time job.
