If you happen to review a certain Dragon Valley game from yesterday you'll see me knife a guy to stop him getting a plane. :hmm: I know it's poor conduct and frowned upon, but he was our commander, he spent ages in the round flying, dying, coming back and taking the plane again, never actually commanding the team at all. No admins were on and I was a bit frustrated...and I got shot clean out of my cockpit when in flight, somehow! Serves me right I guess...:p You'll also see me leap under the wheels of the commander's jet...again, I NEVER normally behave in this manner but it was annoying to see our team suffer because of him.
I think he left a little after I knifed him...so I took over as commander and tried as hard as I could to redeem myself. We pulled back and then won the game. :)
So, uhh...yeah. Please don't ban me guys. That's the only time I've ever behaved like that, honest. (and I was getting frustrated by the endless rule-breaking in the absence of any admins...pretty much every rule listed was getting broken). I know two wrongs don't make a right and so on, but I hope I can be forgiven.
Re: Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!
Great server. Great guys/gals. Fair admin. The working battlerecorder is excellent. The only problem is some little kids setting off votekicks for no reason. Okay wait, setting off votekicks because they're getting killed left and right. These kids should be kicked for this. We play fair. We respect other members. We respect the server.
Admins need to watch this carefully. This behaviour should not be tolerated. The jealous kids should be stoned and then banned. I think I remember one of their names and believe me, this guy is gonna get it everytime we see him.
Other than that great server. Everyone should stop by one time and check these guys out.

Ya know **** happens, Commanders should not fly, they have a job to do for there team. Its against our rules. No admin on, and the kick vote or mutiny hardly ever works. I am not saying it was right but, you done what had to be done to help your team. Thats how i see it. So what if it was a balent tk, not going to ban ya for the getting frustrated. If we didn't have to be role models for the server i would have done the same thing. *****Shhhhh At least you knifed him lmao, we knifing junkies kind of find that amusing lol
We all cant admin the server all the time, its been a hard job as it is to admin it at least 18hrs or so a day.Everyone cant be perfect

You know there is a bug out to kick someone? or mutiny? Sometimes if some one puts up a map vote or kick for etc, it starts this bug. And it will make random users "say they initiated a kick vote/mutiny etc.
There has been numerous times i have joined the server and it said i initiated a vote to kick someone. LOL i and just got into the game and not even picked my kit yet.
I used to get ****ed when that msg came up and started kicking these people for the numorus votes, untill we noticed it was a bug
Re: Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!
the R2 server is a GREAT server, played on it quite a few times...lost track of it for some reason....thanks for posting the IP so I can go back there. My friends and I are looking for a GOOD quality server so we can finally start having a little fun and some teamwork.
Re: Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!
Yeah it seems like some people like to misbehave when an admin is not around. Break every rule under the sun and behave in a manner not tolerated on our server. We try to admin and have an admin on at all times but this is not always possible.
What I suggest is you take names and make a report to us. Simply download the BR file and send it to us and we will review it and take the appropriate action. Unfortunately our server is becoming like a 2nd job for most of us admining more than we are playing. We do like to play BF2 too as well and for the most part our regulars are well behaved however some of our new guests think they can get up to their old tricks that they have gotten away with on every other server out there. Be warned you may get away with it once, if your lucky twice but when caught you will be dealt with harshly.
I'm glad all you guys like our server, its not easy to run it by any means because of some of these people however we try our best and its good when people make kinds comments regarding it, makes it all worthwhile.
Just remember if an admin is not present in-game there is probably an admin still monitoring it with BF2CC so just shout out by typing in game and someone will help you out.
On the vote kicks like PSI said we have proved there is a kick bug where the last to join the server can initiate a kick vote against someone, then next last to join it happens again. Just another bug to add to the list. Personally I wouldn't take offense to it even if it was a legitimate kick vote because they never ever work, we do the kicking around here and if someone does spam kick votes intentionally we ask what the problem is and investigate it, if its for the reason you state they get asked to stop or they will be forced to play elsewhere
Re: Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!
Wow, these bugs never cease to amaze me. It just looked suspicious because after the votekicking started we started receiving friendly fire to our chopper. Anyway still a fanatastic server and we have fun playing in it.
Re: Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!
Last night, I was playing on R2 for a bit and noticed that our team's commander was in the air (flying an attack chopper). There weren't any admins around and I didn't feel like jumping out to fire up Teamspeak.
SO... I made a squad just to have access to the comand com and asked "Hey... anyone have any idea why our commander is flying?"
Commander: "Um... just trying to help"
Me: "You know that's against the rules here, right?"
Commander: "Ummm"
Me: "yeah... you read the rules, right?"
Commander: "Errr... umm. Ok, I'll resign."
Me: "Good idea. An even better idea would be to read server rules and abide by them, yeah?"
Commander: "Yeah."
I was actually stunned that he was so cooptrative. Yeah, he'd fouled up and it was painfully obvious that he didn't know what good command was about, but when confronted with the rules, he submited. He could easily have been a ****-tard about it. I'm no admin and I wasn't gonna run off to find one.
I desided not to take the empty command slot since people had joined my squad in the short time this interaction took, but the guy that did preformed very well.
Re: Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!
If I see someone breaking the rules when Im in game and admining I do exactly that, if its the commander Ill make a squad and talk to him(not being sexist here they just usually are guys), if its someone in a squad Ill join it and let them know what they were doing was wrong and try to educate them on what they can and cant do briefly. Ive found that 99% of the time they are more than willingly to cooperate. The other 1% just call me a bitch, which is nothing I cant handle and actually find it quite amusing that its all they can come up with when confronted :)
Glad you had a good night again on the server 'Gimpy !
Re: Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!
Wargimp, seen you on our server lately, glad you like it. Havnt played in squad with ya, cause the maps had jets, lmao turned into a jet whore lately, hopefully can play some ground pounding maps with ya
if you ever need some air support, get me in a squad ill take those suckers out heh.
On another note I am wondering what the people that play on our server alot is doing about SF pack?
Wish the regulars would come by the site and talk to us about it since its there home too So maybe will can get some ideas here

I tried joining the R2 server but my ping was too high.
Re: Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!
Our server has been patched to 1.12 now. We will be running BF2 maps and Special Forces maps. As a lot of our guys have coughs sold out coughs and bought SF we have upgraded our server to include BF2:SF as well.
Unfortunately this create a tricky situation where people who have not bought BF2:SF will get kicked by the server when a SF map comes up in the rotation. Considering this some input from some of our regulars would be appreciated on this topic. We will probably drop some BF2 maps so there isn't as many maps in the rotation. We will probably run a number of BF2 maps in a row then it will switch to SF maps and run a number of SF maps in a row, rinse and repeat.
Questions:
Do you have BF2:Special Forces?
Are you going to buy Special Forces?
If we drop some BF2 maps which BF2 maps do you like the least?
We will be trying a few different things, so input from our regulars will help us to decide the best server config to go with so have your say!
Re: Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!
Ahhhh... 'bout time!
:p
Nope, I don't have SF yet.
I'll prolly pick it up sooner or later.
It's prolly a good idea to not be running those SF maps just yet. Saturation isn't really high enough to support the switching between the two. You'll end up with lower player counts overall, I think.

Er, unless there's a shortage of SF map servers.
Donno.
Yeah see that's the problem. I was trying to stand the high moral ground and not buy SF until some BF2 vanilla problems were fixed but quite a few of our guys have caved in and bought it. Of course they want to play with their new toys (SF unlocks) and new SF maps.
There does seem to be a shortage of SF map servers however imagine if 45 people playing only have BF2 and the other 5 have SF, it switches to SF maps and kicks 45 people then you need another 5 players to start.
We haven't added the SF maps yet because of this reason, SF players can still use their new toys on regular BF2 maps. I spose we are waiting on some feedback from some of our regulars to see whether they have SF yet or not. Until more have it than don't we will probably stick with just regular BF2 maps because player numbers like you say may suffer when it switches to SF maps arrrrrggghhh Decisions, decisions, decisions. :hmm:
