Run a server? Here's an example of how to do it RIGHT!

Finding a great server is bliss.

There are altogether too many servers with crappy admins, misconfigured battle coms, or just simply aren't set up very well.

Last night, I connected to a server that is exemplary. An icon of what a ranked BF2 server should be. I know I'm gushing a little here, but I seriously would like to see some folks follow the example of the R2 clan.

Server Name : Raging Rebels Ranked 1.03
    Server IP : 209.160.40.25
    Port : 16567

    What made is so good?
The voice coms were working at 100%, as advertised.
You could tell that the admins had a positive influance on the players... every squad I ended up on was actually functional. Virtually everyone was talking and working well together. Even the Battle Recorder is properly set up and .demo files are avalible to anyone!

One minor gripe I have is that at the end of rounds, all squads are dessolved and have to re-from. I didn't dig that too much, but it wasn't too painful either.

Oh and a warning. If you see <R2> Mrs coming at you in a chopper or with a knife, you're in trouble! Hehe, the lady knows what she's doing.

Anyway, thanks to the R2 guys. I'm hella pleased to see a server set up so well. I'm going to be spending more time there... unless it's packed.

BTW, the only other North West servers that I've encountered that come close are Death Row Recruting and Team Wounderful. If the R2 server is full, those are worth checking out too (no battle recorders tho).

Cool thanks for the heads up, people need to start posting the servers that run a clean, fair, fun game and the ones that don't also, without immature flaming say if you got kicked for being an ass.

try warishell gimp. i'm not sure what the IP is but it'll pop right up when you search for it in your list. the server kicks ass most of the time and people use voice comms.

I'll give it a snoop, BV.

Does anyone else know of any servers that:
          Are well adminned
          Have Battle Coms properly configured
Has Battle Recorder files availible to anyone
          Isn't laggy

Looking for all of the above, not just some of 'em.

Thanks for the compliments Wargimp, I'm glad you like our server. We have put a lot of work into to making it enjoyable for all players. It was fun playing with and against you last night and my Mrs says hi!

I'm an admin of Raging Rebels Ranked 1.03 <<R2>> Punisher and myself are personally responsible for setting it up, which included configuring VOIP/Battle Recorder so that it works properly and is available to all players.

Just to give you guys a little more info about our Ranked server:

Its based in Seattle, Washington, USA. The server box is a fully dedicated to us only, we don't share it with anyone else. Specs are dual xeon 3.0s, 2gig RAM and 100Mbit pipe. Obviously this means no lag ever, its also the reason we can run Battle Recorder on 64 players maps because we have power to burn, even though EA recommend against running BR on 64 player maps our server handles it with ease.

We have some basic rules to make BF2 more enjoyable:
No spawn camping/attacking uncaps till last flag (exception: only spec ops should enter an uncap to blow commander assets then leave)
Commanders DON'T Fly, we expect commanders to be passive and do their job properly otherwise they will be asked to resign, if they don't, they get shown the door.
Tkpunish for an accident or your own stupidity is frowned upon!

The server is well admined and there's almost always an admin either on playing or remotely monitoring the server, so don't be afraid to ask for our help, thats what we are there for. We are mature and fair admins, we usually give players a few warnings rather than instant kicks.EG I'm 33 so no kids admin this server. Please remember that admins can't watch every player 24/7 so help from the players is needed and appreciated. Problem players are dealt with quickly!

50 players on 64 player maps, 2 rounds per map, all maps, team switched at end of each round. Gives everyone a chance to get a vehicle and makes for better teamwork.

We highly encourage teamwork on our server. You may be amazed to find no lone wolfs and everyone in a squad using VOIP and good teamwork. The competition level is high/challenging as well. You may also be suprised to see courteous players who share vehicles.

Does all this sound to good to be true? We have a lot of players like Wargimp say our Ranked server is the best there is. Swing on by and check us out, come play a game and say hi to the Raging Rebels <<R2>> www.r2clan.com and friends.

BTW We are recruiting skilled and friendly players that would like to become part of our "family". Our clan has a family type atmosphere, we are a multi gaming clan not just BF2. All our members have server admin acesss to ensure a well admined server using strict guidelines for all admins to ensure consistant fair desicions. If you you want join us please visit www.r2clan.com and sign up and let us know of your interest. You could also join us on Teamspeak to get to know us TS IP 216.151.149.118:8526

Raging Rebels Ranked 1.03 the fun place to play BF2!

            Cheers

Hey Wargimp if you can't get on our server because its full and most will already see that its almost always full 24/7, jump on our TS and we will kick an idle player for you

Oh and I forgot to mention the reason why you must join a squad again at the end of each round is because we have it setup to teamswitch all players at the end of the round. A small price to pay for this feature.

                    Hey Wargimp

Thanks for the recomendation. We try to run a great server where everyone can have a good time.

Like HKS said If the server is full join us on TS and we can make room for people if there are players idle.

Glad too see all our hard work is paying off..

                    Thanks again

Hey Capt.HKS...sounds like you guys have a great server. I'll stop by and check it out. I play mostly on the VSFGamers ranked server because it too features squad play and VOIP usage.

My question...we recently tried the teamswitch between rounds on the VSFGamer server and it seemed to rachet up the occurrence of the red tag/blue tag bug, what we call the "squad bug", where despite the teamswitch...some players start the second round still in their squad from the previous round. Those squads grow to 7, 8, 9 players instead of six and players are unable to leave the squad to join another. Server crashes seemed also to rise. Did you guys experience anything like that when you implemented the teamswitch feature? Thanks.

We experience all of that however I'm not sure whether the team switch function is to blame although it maybe. Seems to me the red tag friendlies/blue tag enemy bug occurs more frequently with patch 1.03. We also have the more than 6 in a squad. What you find though is there are only actually 6 even though it says there are more, some appear in the squad when in fact they aren't. We also have the occassional getting stuck in a squad and you can't leave. We have also experienced some occassions where people can't even create squads.

Our server will crash occassionally however it seems to make no difference whether team switch is on or off. I think as we all know that BF2 is just buggy and we can only hope EA/DICE address these problems seriously next time with another patch until then I guess we have to put up with it.

I played on that server just the other day, I was frankly blown away by how smooth the gameplay was. Just no lag to be found-and I'm in England! Me ping was about 120, which I wouldn't normally like, but it was totally fine. Got myself a few knife kills and had a good time.

My only minor gripe is that people were camping the uncappables when it wasn't the last flag to get-happened about six times when I was on, but I think when I mentioned it in the chat there weren't any <<R2>> guys on so that's not exactly your fault.

In fact, I'm going to go see if I can get on there again now. :)

Hmm, either I'm having a problem or it's down right now. Oh well.

All maps 2 rounds per map, teamswitched at the end of each round.
