The Soviet war in Afghanistan was a 9-year conflict fought between the Soviet Army and rebels in Afghanistan. The war is generally held to have started December 24, 1979. Soviet troops ultimately withdrew from the area between May 15, 1988 and February 2, 1989. The Soviet Union officially announced that all of its troops had left Afghanistan on February 15, 1989.

The initial mission, to guard cities and installations, was expanded to combat the Mujahideen rebel forces by mostly Soviet army reservists.

Early military reports emphasized the difficulty of fighting on the mountainous terrain, for which the Soviet Army had no training. Weaponry and military equipment, particularly armored cars and tanks, were vulnerable and Soviet troops had no anti-guerrilla training. Heavy artillery was broadly used against the rebels.

Both do their job perfectly.... there is even no point in argueing which is the better one.

I can only stat my opinion and say that the Hind looks a lot scarier(and better)

              ps:
i dont know how russian equipment manufacturers exchange technology among each other, but if they do, the Hind might even have a superior targeting and missle guiding system.
But even if.... both kill tanks and and other installations with almost 100% precision and can level a city block in mere seconds.

                Notice he said opinion.

And in your vernacular.... OMG Are u Mental... if you are talking from a BF2 standpoint, you cant know, cuz the Hind isnt in the game That is the Mi-28 Havoc

So lighten up. Additionally the Hind DOES have a few advantages over the Apache... Weapons load, speed, dismounted troop capability.... So do your homework francis..

And before you start whining about anti-american blah blah blah. I am American, In the Army... and actually like the AH-64. Doesnt mean it is the best... nor does it mean it isnt the best.

Listen playa, bust out your thesaurus for this 1, I never said anything is better because it's American, I was trying to make a point that this is more anti-american BS trying to say an outdated piece of Shat like the Hind is really a overall better aircraft than the Apache. I've just been witnessing alot of anti-american Rhetoric around here lately, and having friends and family in combat zones, I don't take lightly to the $hit, Rgr? Guidon, I didn't know that wasn't a hind in the game, every1 is calling it a hind, and i'v enever heard of a havoc, so I don't know, don't really care about the Soviet era weapons either. The hind has a top speed over the Apache? thats a surprise, coulda swore the Apache was the fast overhead prop aircraft around, learn something new everyday 8)

And Whas the deal with you Canadian Girlscouts automatically associating Americans with REdnecks? LMAO, I'm from NY and can't stand MFing Rednecks, or canadians who don't know thier place....Tread elsewhere troll

1st time I heard it I was a bit suprised too.

                        I think it is about
~180 for the Apache & mi-28 Havoc (top end)
~ 210 for the Hind-d (Talking to a few aviators here)

The Apache just looks as though it would be one of the fastest out here. However, I am pretty sure that Chinook is actually faster (a little so... but not by much) as well as the British army (Pretty sure it is the brits) has the fastest military helicopter out there (230mph?? - saw it recently on the military channel). Cant remember which it is and am not in a location where I can look it up at the moment.

Theatres? time in? I just find it hard to believe Im running into Apache pilots on a BF2 forum, LMAO. In that case, I'm a F-117 Pilot, hehe

The Apache is slightly faster than the Chinook, around 4 knots faster, the British helicopter you are referring to is likely the Lynx which holds the record for the fatest speed ever attained in a helicopter, but it was aided with rockets IIRC. Standard lynx goes around 140 knots.
