That is the most idiotic question i have EVER heard...

And that beats a question asked by some Bf2 player in a Masthuur City server, He asked: "Who do i shoot?"

Re: Is the Hind american or Russian?

As many have already stated, the AH-64 and MI-24 were built to fill different roles on the battlefield. Direct comparisons are pointless. Apples and oranges if you will. Just the throw another log on this fire, the attack helicopter is losing favor in American joint forces doctrine. The advent and constant improvement of precision munitions have undermined the Apache’s role. Why risk an aircraft and crew flying nape of the earth when the same effect can be achieved from 30,00 feet and miles away? While the Apaches does and will have a role in the Army for some time to come, one should remember that it was built to fight a massive tank battle in central Europe. Soviet air defense, primarily missiles, precluded the use of attack jets for this role. Things are now some what reversed. U.S. adversaries now typically use low tech, direct fire air defense systems, to which the AH-64 is much more venerable than, lets say a F-16. Any thoughts?

      p.s
I think both will be a blast to fly in BF2!

Heh, that Hind pic is not photoshopped. That was done many years ago as a show bird. You'll have to search around if you wanna find out the specifics.

They were designed for different missions. The apache is pure anti-tank, while the HIND was designed for transport as well as attack. IN the pure anti-tank realm... the AH-64 (All models) performs better than the Hind (personal opinion as well as a few different reviews, documentaries on various tv channels (History, military, Discovery chans).

As a transport helicopter... obviously the Hind performs better as the Apache only carries it's crew.

What are the specifications for this? Crash worthiness/crew survivability? performance? military role? weapons platforms? optics/scanners/radars?

Dont get me wrong... I think the Hind is an awsome helicopter, have gotten to see it a few times in airshows, with the russian troops in Bosnia/Kosovo, and here at the NTC, a few times, for training. I simply think that the Apache is a better platform.
THANK GOD FOR THIS INTELLIGENT POST... FINALLY SOMEONE SMART ON THESE FORUMS!

Re: Is the Hind american or Russian?

During the war,(afghanistan) 333 Hinds were lost in combat; the number lost to operational accidents is not known.

Only as reliable as the page I pulled it from....

Still doesnt mean it was a bad aircraft... just that the enemy got 1)smarter in how to deal with them... 2) weapons capable of inflicting the damage.

Just as the US losses in Afghanistan and Iraq dont mean the AH-64 or Mariene's AH-1s are bad.

                              Little know fact on Apachies:
As a rule of thumb, for every 15 minutes of flight it requires 1 hour of ground service.

                              'Nother interesting one:
The main gun on the Apache was a feasco. During design, it was found that the barrel was too long and it caused the servos that move it to burn out in fairly short order. To fix this, they just cut down the barrel lenght. This caused it to be horribly inaccurate. To qualify the weapon system, all you had to do was hit a target at a certain distance (the exact number escapes me ATM). The rules didn't say how many shots you were allowed. So, they just kept on shooting until a bullet finally landed on the target and called it qualified. "Usless" was the term the people used who had to actually use the thing! Several re-fits later, and it's been improved, but it's still fans like a SOB.
